Disc Unreadable [OP UPDATED 10.20.09]
Posted by: urk Here's the official word from our publishing partner. Sorry it took so long for us to get this out to you. We know this issue has been a source of frustration. Thanks for being patient.
We are aware of a very small number of customers reporting that their copy of Halo 3 ODST is causing a "disc read" error, which cannot be corrected by Bungie. Microsoft is fully prepared to address this issue via customer support. If you are receiving this error, please contact Microsoft customer support at 1-800-4MY-XBOX for troubleshooting assistance.
If you experience any issues or difficulties via the official support channel, please private message me directly.
Along with thousands of other unfortunate people, my Halo ODST disc became unreadable for countless times during a loading screen. There is nothing wrong with the disc, other than that the new version of DVDs are not very compatible with supposedly "older" 360s. If this happens to you, try downloading it to your hard drive. This only seem to work for a very slim amount of owners though, because if it doesn't work, then your console will be unable to read the DVD the second you start it. Also, there is another slim chance for it to work: If you can get one of your friends to host a lobby and then launch the game for you, it may just work. However, you will not be able to play the game solo. If the above doesn't work doesn't work, or if you just want to express your problems, then I suggest you message the user: Test Ninja Alpha, following the format below.
Posted by: Test Ninja Alpha Since different people can have slightly different issues, we want to get an idea of the various issues that people are seeing individually. For those of you having problems similar to this, please PM me the following: 1. A brief description of your specific problem and what you've tried to fix it. Please do not recap the thread. 2. Remove your hard drive and play through the same sections of ODST that are failing. Does that make a difference? 3. Put in Halo 3 and play through a the first few campaign missions (on easy, it'll go quick). Do you see the same behavior as in ODST, or does it function perfectly?
If you are not to sure about this problem, then the only sure-fire way to be reimbursed is to return your copy to your game retailer as soon as possible. When or if Bungie fixes this problem, you could rebuy the game and see if it works. ****EDIT: 10.2.09****
Posted by: urk Sorry about the continued delays, dudes (and ladies). We're in touch with Microsoft and they're telling us that you should be calling 1-800-4-MY-XBOX to get tickets up and going. They're still not 100% locked in on the issue, but they are making progress. But no matter what the problem is, they've assured us the resolution will be handled through their support center. If you are told by a customer service rep that they will not help you or that you should be going elsewhere for support, please ask them for their Customer Service Request # and report it to me directly via PM. Again, we know this sucks hard. Hopefully they can zero in on the problem and get you all up and working asap.
If you really want to contribute, please perform the above. And if you happen to get on the phone with an "angry" customer support employee, you should ask for their Customer Service Request #, so they feel more obligated to help you, and all of us with this problem. ****EDIT: 11.16.09****
Posted by: urk
Posted by: DEACON01 Incase many of you didn't know, but Halo 3 did have a similar problem with its campaign mode.
Since you're in the researchin' mood, you won't find it too difficult to drum up instances of DRE at just about every major title release as well. And we're not turning a deaf ear (or a blind eye). We understand that it seems that way, but we're frustrated too. We've got an open channel for you to communicate with our test team in the first post and we'd like you to stay in contact with support if you've already opened a trouble ticket. We're still in direct contact with our publisher as well to try to resolve this as quickly as possible, but unfortunately we don't have much to offer at this time, hence the silence. And yeah, I know that's aggravating for the people who can't play.
****EDIT: 11.20.09****
Posted by: urk Here's the official word from our publishing partner. •
Posted by: McCheif BTW, I don't think the Live update had anything to do with ODST, and they are giving you a brand new XBOX for trade-in, so CALL THEM NOW! It took 4 business days for my to get my replacement.
I wonder if that's true for all inbound machines. Mine is a May 2008 Elite, and it's been in "Repair in Progress" status for over a day, making me wonder if they're actually doing something to it...

 •
Have you tried playing ODST? any problems?
I played ODST for 3 hours last night. I was able to continue my Legendary Campaign right where I left off before the disc read failure. No glitching, no problems, ALL GOOD! And did I mention how quiet the Jasper is? Seriously, this thing is awesome. My wife even said something to the effect of "is it even running?, it doens't even sound like its on!" •
Posted by: FallenAngel9 Did anyone else get a really long update for Xbox LIVE? I had to update when I tried to sign on today and it took like 20 minutes. Nobody else I asked had to either, so again I'm curious...
Yes my nephews console did, quite a large one apparently based on the download time... mine's on the way to the shop, probably have to d/l it when I get it back... According to the Update message (at the end of Spotlight), the update was adding functionality for the Wireless-N device MS is coming out with... [Edited on 10.29.2009 9:52 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: McCheif Works like a charm, and quiet as a mouse. I did have to spend about 30 minutes with LIVE updates and going through all the settings. Hold on just a little longer guys, redemption is on the way!
Have you tried playing ODST? any problems?

 • Got my Xbox back today. It is a brand new box, built in May of 09. SHINY. I haven't booted up yet, but I can't imagine there being a problem with it.

 • I called Friday, and I have yet to recieve my UPS label in the mail. They probably could've fixed it by now if my 360 wasn't still sitting here at my house. For anyone else that has yet to call for repairs, see if you can opt to get a prepaid label through e-mail.

 • quote]Posted by: rsattler
Posted by: Westrunner Here's something bizarre: the first UPS tracking label I got had a number that was already used. When I called to get another one (another hour on the phone) they gave me another one: ALSO ALREADY USED. Anyone else experiencing this? I don't know what to do except pay for the shipping myself!
My shipping label was previously used also - I sent it out and tracking it in the UPS app, it's still two days from TX but it's on its way - prepaid. I suspect that MS reuses the shipping labels and from talking to my local UPS carrier (who delivers stuff to me from amazon.com quite frequently - lol) says that this is normal for large companies. Wouldn't worry about it as long as they take it at the UPS center it's going to make it to the repair center in my opinion. So far so good for my package.
I just checked mine too omg this is ridiculous!

 • It's been 6 days since I called. No shipping label. And when I go to the website to see the repair status, there's no print shipping label button. Plus, it doesn't even recognize my SR# or my zip code if I'm signed in. Only when I'm signed out. Time for another phone call. EDIT: -blam!-, it's 3-5 BUSINESS days. How did I miss that? Nevermind then. Have to wait until tomorrow. [Edited on 10.27.2009 3:30 PM PDT]

 • Yeah, my UPS tracking said the same thing up until 5 CST on Tues. It seems I will get my xbox on Wed (still less than a week from when I dropped it off @ UPS). I wonder if the Microsoft repair center is closed on Mondays?

 • Yeah, that's where I keep getting the flawed labels. BTW: 8lbs of Xbox sent via UPS is roughly 11 dollars ground (the normal way) 40 dollars 2 day, and 60+ 1 day in case anyone was considering upgrading shipping to get their console back faster.

 •
They were clueless. Both the 1800 number and the driver who actually refused to take it. But I am guessing because the previous delivery info is identical for both tracking numbers, it might be okay. Both claim to have been delivered to "shpkeeper" June of this year at 2:30pm. System issue, error, or working as intended? No idea. Xbox support didn't seem to know what to make of it either, I think I'm just going to ship it to the same place with a label I buy myself, just for peace of mind.
are you printing from the xbox site or are they e-mailing the label to you? If you go to xbox.support.com, there is a place to put in your ref# and get a ship label. I would say it is worth it to pay the shipping if nothing else works. It is only 8 pounds or so.
