The Sunbreaker Bandwagon

What is with the sheer number of people on these forums that think the Sunbreaker subclass is OP? It is easily countered by mobility skills and items such as Shade Step, Empyrean Bellicose, and Angel of Light. That's at least one extremely simple counter for every class. I understand that some people love to just keep pushing forward and rush everything during a match, but that's always been a death wish when dealing with a Titan. Now what's so different about Sunbreakers? Their ability to move and throw hammers makes it a similar super to the Golden Gun. Would anyone literally just stand still as the Golden Gun comes right at them? Not often. But it's surprising how many people just attempt to take hammers head on. The key is to move in more unpredictable ways, such as strong vertical mobility. When hammers are thrown in your general direction, simply evade and shoot the Sunbreaker down. My Empyrean Bellicose has won consistent 1v1 encounters against them. I just don't understand why most people can't adapt their playstyles to compete, and instead come on these forums to cry nerf and ruin this subclass. I know most people are upset with the new TITAN *cough* tank class *cough* subclass and its ability to not be one-hit killed by anything but supers, but that's what a tank class should be. The offensive capabilities aren't overwhelming enough to lower the damage reduction. I just don't see why everyone should have the same basic amount of health. This is Destiny, it's not a traditional fps where everyone is the same. These classes should have differences in stats, and changing this does no good to the game but please all the people too lazy to strategize. EDIT: There's so many people attempting to counter me that I doubt I'll get to them all. Please read the other posters' arguments before posting the same one please. EDIT 2: Many of you are refusing to acknowledge my points because you seem to think I main a Titan. Hell, if anything I main a Hunter. That's the class I started with and that's always been my go-to for most everything. I've played all three classes and all nine subclasses extensively and I know their ins-and-outs. I'm not some fool that is trying to defend my subclass from the evils of the world, so don't treat me as such. EDIT 3: Nice to know I'm not alone in my fight. Some have stepped forward to help show that Sunbreakers aren't as invincible as most would claim. It seems I'm not the first to have picked up a similar tactic in my fight against the new subclasses. Thanks to everyone for your input, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in the middle. EDIT 4: One day later, and this is still going. I'm currently at work, and I'll attend to as many responses as I can when I'm home. Until then, find more ammo to use against me. I tire of the same points showing up; they're almost as predictable as a flaming hammer. EDIT 5: Clips incoming! I've heard some claim a lack of credibility since I haven't posted clips of myself taking down Sunbreakers. I'm still at work at the moment, but I'll try to dig up a clip or two of my own once I'm home to prove my point. In the meantime, feel free to look up this same tactic; I'm sure you can find someone else demonstrating it for you. EDIT 6: I found a clip in my Game DVR that shows the basic strategy to use with Empyrean Bellicose/Angel of Light. It's not my best work, but it got the job done. I'll also make a clip using Shade Step once I step back into the Crucible as my Hunter. EDIT 7: I'm not sure how much longer this post will keep going, but I just thought I would let everyone know it's been a good run. If anything, I'm sure I've helped a few of you deal with those bothersome Sunbreakers and their undeniable strengths (and weaknesses). For the others that fail to heed my advice, I wish you luck in finding your own solution to your problems. I'm positive I'll run into a few of you someday in the Crucible (though I'm known to be far less civil while letting my weapons do the talking for me).

    • Just earlier tonight I got baited outside of a room and was gunned down very quickly by only two players. One shooting from the front and one from behind. I was annoyed in the moment, but they killed me fair and square. That's what stopping a super should look like. Not one player feeling like they should always have the option to solo

Best way to counter a SunBreaker: Teamwork, look it up people! Now I agree that the duration of the super is a bit much, but most other aspects of the super can be countered by either teamwork, or as stated above, unpredictable movements to avoid the hammers. But if you and your team work together against a sunbreaker, in my experience, it works.

    • Just so we're clear - your argument for why Sunbreakers HoS isn't OP is because you can sometimes avoid being killed by it? wow.. that is a strong argument - I think I need to sit down.

      • I read your post and your edits and I found nothing that sayed what sunbreakers have. They got insane dmg per hammer, more hammers then GG has shots, longer duration and way more defense. It seems it gets all those benefits for the price of travel time on its projectiles.. This doesn't seem fair to me. If I named a ability that is not built in but a perk you have to choose, correct me but imo the hammer is only counterable by running away or hoping they can't aim because you still get killed in shadestep and if the sunbreaker can't hit you while you're floating in the air he deserves to waste his super xD

          • In Trials of Osiris i noticed teams with sunbreaker titans have had way more success than without. every sunbreaker titan i have seen has averaged 2.0 or better every match. When my team decided to switch to Titans we did better. Coincidence i think not. Super is overpowered because of duration, and shields. They are also the fastest because they can rapidly spam a and catch up to you. The Grenades are over powered as well. Just by being kind of close to it you lose all shields and immediately have a red health bar left. Teams without Sunbreaker Titans are easy as heck to beat teams with 3 are simply unbeatable unless you use the titan as well. In b4 hating all classes except my own. all my characters are 314+

            • Yeah. You lost my respect after emperean bellicose. That's not a mobility exotic. If a sunbreaker gets taken down because of a bellicose, the sunbreaker is bad.

              • Sun breakers aren't very bad it is just you can use the hammer more than golden gun you can throw it very far and there is no damage reduction (explosions) and just the fact that it is explosions you can kill multiple people with one hammer also golden gun hardly gives you a shield. I think they could use some adjustment but that happens with many games you introduce something huge and it needs balancing to fit in with previous content.

              • Day one titan here and I love HoS fun to use in pve and fun in pvp. I've died in pvp against golden gun and I've killed golden guns. A super should feel like a super and that is something the titan class was lacking in pvp.

                  • It's hilarious how people can't see how it's the most unbalanced super. I'll only compare the more "free roaming" supers since those are the most similar. Stormcallers have to be relatively closer than you'd realize to hit someone. Even then, it takes a bit for the person do die. Sunsingers can throw a decent amount of grenades, but they are very easy to dodge. (They also have the ability to self resurrect, and then grenade spam). Bladedancers will one-hit kill, but you have to get very close, and they can regenerate health after kills). Using Razor's Edge gives you a ranged attack, but it travels straight and can be avoided by jumping or moving sideways (obviously) if you know how to evade it. Now for Sunbreaker's HoS: Allows you to run around a map and throw hammers that track (I use the term loosely as the tracking isn't the best) and explode in proximity of a target. Additionally, you have more defense than a bladedancer, and can also regenerate health after each kill. How is that not a problem? I personally like the subclass, and I use it, but it does need a slight adjustment at the least. The funny thing is, people are fighting so hard to make sure it stays exactly how it is. I feel like some people don't want an over-nerf so to speak, but others know it's a bit OP and like having that advantage in PvP. I'm just going to say the same thing I said with Thorn......if you like it, cool. If you need it, then it's better that it gets nerfed so you learn how to play. So many people weren't doing so good at PvP after Thorn got adjusted, but that's kind of a good thing because it shows that they should be more versatile in their options for PvP.

The real thing I really want fixed is whenever I try to suppress a sunbreaker he seems to get one extra hammer kind of mid suppression. That damn hammer always kills me.

                    • I mostly enjoy it when some Hunters or Warlocks message me through Xbox saying; "Get off a Titan you bandwagoning -blam!-" I'm not sure how to tell them, that I have ~50 days on my Titan and ~3500 crucible games.

                      • I doubt a small armor nerf to allow snipers to snipe them out of their super will "ruin the subclass." It's simply for the sake of balance. I can see further nerfs ruining the subclass but honestly I think an armor adjustment is all that's needed.
