The real space race is the quietly increasing militarization of the area. Modern armies are reliant on satellite technology, so any conventional war is going to start by both sides attempting to knock the other's satellites out. The speed at which one can replace satellites -- something the US is working on -- is therefore critical.

Yes there are. But theyre hazy on things like what I just mentioned -- technically it can have civilian purpose too. But also I don't believe that conventional weapons are banned in space, nor are anti-satellite missiles.

Missles capable of taking out satellites are very much real. I'd have to look into the specifics of the other stuff.

I'm not too versed in it, full disclosure. But I think it's a growing dimension of concern that rarely sees much spotlight attention
