The Taken King will suck

Alright first and foremost, the title is click bait. Secondly, the title won't entirely be untrue if they don't implement these ideas. As we all know by now, all of the content prior to The Taken King will become irrelevant at launch for two reasons: legendaries will not be able to be upgraded to year two levels and the content would become too trivial (easy). In this piece of writing I will give sort of a two part solution to this problem. Step 1: [b]Implement "down leveling"[/b] What I mean by this is, if you are going into VoG or any other activity, and not just implement this into year one but into year two activities and so on, making things a lot less trivial and making the older stuff still somewhat of a challenge. A possible way to do this is to make it so that if you went into an activity, you would go in at the strength of only one level higher. I know the light system is getting reworked and all so it would be more like if you're going into an activity that is best done with 180 light, and you have, let's say 210 light, you would be temporarily downgraded for the duration of the mission or raid to 190. I'm not sure how the new system works entirely so I'm just spit balling numbers, but this would keep everything at least somewhat challenging. Step 2: [b]Keep gear relevant[/b] Yes I know, the dreaded keep-your-progress-and-gear-relevant argument, but bear with me. People will generally jump and say things like "but but that makes collecting new gear pointless and the new content will not be played", and to that I say you're wrong. If you've been keeping up with the plans for TTK, they are implementing a system that forces you to play higher level content in order to upgrade that sweet crucible gun you love so much. Well, they could do the same kind of thing for old legendaries from VoG, CE, PoE, etc. After ascending it to its year one value, instead of the node just disappearing, it could then undergo the same kind of treatment the new stuff is getting. You will have to play higher level content still in order to do so, making the expansion still 100% worth playing, not just to keep your progress and the rest of the content of the game relevant, but also to collect that sweet new gear. These are two solutions that I believe wouldn't be too hard to implement, and it would make the whole game worth playing instead of just the new stuff. Suggestions much appreciated. Apparently people are hard at reading .-. Also am I the only one who's upset that the class items aren't just "vanity items" anymore? I liked being able to wear different class items without having to worry about stats. That's the same reason I only bothered with factions for a week, because I didn't want to rely on an ugly ass class item to give me the special modification

    • What i feel people forget too easily is that it was never about legendaries, from the start it was about exotics. Legendaries were just the next step on the ladder up to exotics.

        • Bungie take note on step two. The "year-one-ers" got you TO year two. We're the ones who have given you the statistics and feedback you're relying on to change the game. Don't screw us by putting us on the same level as the newbies. They're new, they haven't earned the right to be considered equals yet. But you want to catch them up with a free lvl 25? There hasn't been much done to retain the players you have. Remember who has been paying the Bungie bills. It's not the HR rep. I'll give you a hint, the word starts with "play" and ends with "ers." The content adds are bleak, there's always something getting nerfed, and not enough done to make it a game worth continuing to play. There's plenty of good games coming out this season. I've seen what Bungie has done and the year lease is up, so to speak. Sad thing for you is, if everyone else does what Bungie does and offers newbies free rides then it'll be way less painful to change games. Tl;dr Your Destiny lies in the hands of current gamers, not would-bes who have waited until now to buy the game. Invest in us.

                    • 1. No, if they did that there's no point in levels, they might as well remove all levels and just set the difficulty of each level/raid/strike. 2. Wouldn't work either, the idea is to grind for all the new weapons as well as play the content over and over once you've managed to aquire the new wepaons. By making year one weapons upgradeable, your bypassing collecting new ones and just levelling up what you have, that's half the grind skipped already.

                            • I think it's a slap in the face that the ttk is catering to new players and not to the loyal veterans. There should be no consumable that allows newbs to automatically be leveled for ttk. All us veterans had to start at level one, so should they. On top of that it's $40+ for this expansion when all the previous were $20+. Also, the hard earned exotics that you farmed for in VoG and Crota have just become garbage with no way to upgrade them on par with the TTK gear and weapons, same with that Gjallarhorn that xur finally sold, slapping people in the face, a month before it became obsolete and worthless. Destiny and bungie have gotten ridiculous with there cash grab banking on veterans to continually pay for the added content as the new players are easily accommodated to get on par with us. We basically paid $100+ for a beta that lacked content and storyline as we continually grinded much of the same stuff to complete bounties, but we did so to get to where we currently are. *In case some don't know, the original lead writers (Joe Staten) who created the game and story line had this all to be released as one big game, but bungie and activion felt otherwise and realized they could make much more of a profit by having players pay for added content in continuous expansions that would eventually create the whole intended storyline.                                 • I'm pretty sure there's a damage/level cap for vog and Crota. 34 and 40 will do the same damage against Crota hard. Idk bout your second point though. Not trying to refute what you're saying. Just that one already has been implemented

                                  • 1. I still think they have something planned for the old raids in the way of up-scaling them allowing you to upgrade Necrochasm/Vex/Elder Cipher weapons. Might just be blind hope but I have a hard time thinking they won't try to find a way to recycle this content, while keeping it relevant in regards to rewards. To your point, why would I want to level down to play content that yields no rewards? If I was actively seeking that extra challenge then I could just equip some green gear and it's the exact same thing. 2. Just let them go. Bungie knows that you people are upset about this so there isn't a point in cluttering up the forums by regurgitating the same argument over and over

                                      The fanboys are out in force. Just wait, within a week after TTK drops these forums will be ablaze just like they were after TDB and HoW dropped. Nothing has changed at Bungievi$ion. Destiny is still about minimum content and maximum hype. The whole "express level 25" thing baffles me. Why have a brand new player start at level 25 when they will not have the weapons and gear to even compete (play) at a level 2? I read the Bungie rationale, "so new players can just jump right in to content". What content can they just "jump" into without a single legendary weapon (or even a rare or uncommon one)? Does playing the original story at level 25 seem like fun? Crucible is the ONLY arena they could possibly play in. Playing the original story line is how the weapons and gear are obtained, so why allow them to bypass it?

                                      • A lot of whining going on here. Anyone that did both raids a couple times got their money's worth in year one. Out with the old, in with the new. $40 isn't that much money for a couple missions and a new raid. Not to mention a whole new arsenal of weapons and armor. I am still a little pissed that HOW didn't include a raid, but they have stated flat out this time that there will be a raid.
