UK based players and Destiny. Or how BT broke the world..

Sorry, not of interest to players outside the UK but after spending 8 hours chasing down a fault when trying to connect it actually came back to something really simple, that you'll struggle to find mention of on any forums or help guides. If you live in the UK and you have British Telecom (BT) as your ISP and you're having connection issues, especially if you've (like me) just switched platforms then BT Smart Setup may be calling all your issues. I have just switched from PS 3/4 to X Box One for.. reasons (PSN outages are one of them) and spent 8 hours yesterday trying to understand how I was connecting to the net but couldn't get past a Turtle error code. I setup a static IP, I port forwarded, I uninstalled and reinstalled (which took hours, more on this in a bit), I prayed to the Seven, then I prayed to the Nine as this isn't Westeros..... Nothing. Then I stumbled on someone with an issue on X Box One to do with missing tiles on the home screen, turns out that on the XBone (at least) BT Smart Setup wants to you go through the motions with it on the XBone..... Long story short, if you are having these problems, stop everything installing, open up IE on your Homescreen and you'll be presented with the Smart Setup page, follow the instructions (takes 30 sec), you don't need to enter your BT Internet details, just steps 1 and 2. Then restart the X Box and check your Multiplayer Connection (from network settings), you'll notice a connection roughly 3 times faster than you had and everything will (should) run smooth as silk, like mine now does...... If you open your Modem's webpage you can disable Smart Setup from the Advanced Settings menu and voila, it will stop messing with you permanently...... Hope this helps a few people like me who had no idea what the problem was. Not sure if any other ISP's use something similar, but if you've run every option, have a look at your modem web page and try opening IE from the Home screen.
