I'm seeing a lot of people get really worked up because year one weapons and gear are likely going to become obsolete in TTK. This is how games with a similar loot structure have been doing things for over a decade, and it's worked out pretty good for them. Typically a game like this will make all gear obsolete with every expansion, but bungie has compromised and made it annual (from the looks of things) I hope I'm not alone in saying this NEEDS to happen. Otherwise the game (which is already getting stale) will get really stale. It's a really nice change of pace when this happens. The meta totally changes, (thorn, Gjally are no longer a conversation in end game) Everyone is back to zero, so it should be easier to find raid groups for those who had problems previously. What wow has done in past has been: Give you gear that was leaps and bounds better than the previous raid as a reward for the first story mission of the new expansion, and all others. It's nice, you have a reason to do the story, and at the end you have everything you need to be successful in the first few bosses of a raid. It takes a few weeks to accumulate gear from those bosses to go ahead and finish the raid. This really brings everything down to skill, you have to focus on boss mechanics and team work if you want to get things done. Because unless you complete the raid, you're never going to get the gear you need to hit max level, you NEED to do it a few times with underpowered gear. I personally hope they go ahead and leave all year one guns behind in year one.
i do NOT work for bungie, as I know that's coming, lol.
"Edit" 1: this poll honestly went exactly opposite of how i thought it would. Seems people with experience in games with this loot system don't want it, and people who don't have that experience think it will be fine. My position is unchanged, but the numbers don't lie. "Edit" 2: this poll has swung and went exactly how I thought it would, lol.

 • Weapons in an FPS are completely different than weapons in an MMO like WoW. The guns we use in shooters define our play styles. Weapons in MMOs give you stats. They are incomparable. When I got Word of Crota, it was a hand cannon with a higher attack rating than my Fatebringer could get at the time. But I still used Fatebringer because it felt better to me. In an MMO, I would easily and freely replace a weapon with one that has better stats without a care in the world. Also, Bungie is on this weird quest to make guns worse by removing some of the best perks and replacing some with ones that increase certain stats but reduce others. Vanilla legendaries are miles better that TDB and HoW (if you got a good roll, which was harder at the time). VoG weapons are in a totally different league than CE, and especially PoE, guns. Only the Trials weapons can really compete, but they're a massive pain to get. TL,DR comparing weapons in an FPS to weapons in an MMO is apples and oranges, and trying to cram the MMO gear treadmill into Destiny is asinine. Gunplay is a lot more important to fun gameplay than clicking and hitting keys. Also, newer guns are gradually getting worse, that's why we don't want to lose the ones that are actually good.
