Killballs, the grid, and Forging on a budget.

If I'm reading the update correctly, which if I'm not then my english teachers have seriously failed me , this is a different version of the OLN. It's almost like their is a third budget for us to deal with. Most forgers have a hard time mananging their resources when building maps, but this looks to be some insidious beast of burden. What happens if we accidently delete an original object? "Well Jonny, tough beans, don't mess up next time." That's just so limiting. Anyways, I'm done complaining as it's really no use. As I've said, I'm looking forward to Sandbox, but it seems to be bittersweet for those of us that put more effort and time into our creations.
Posted by: urk
Posted by: VP360 I never did that much forging so I wasnt aware that that the second budget thing always existed but either way I still dont understand why they cant fix that.
There's nothing to fix. There's a limit on total objects for a reason.
By fix I just mean there should be a way you can reclaim the objects you delete. Like when you delete something the limit of that object should go up one since you just deleted it. Im sure somedbody will create a canvas with all the objects stacked on the side anyway so I guess it wont be a big deal anyway. Except if you delete something by accident like rusty eagle said. i just got that funny feeling, down their

READ WHAT PEOPLE WRITE The only way it makes sense is if the objects on the map are in ADDITION to the OLN, meaning that if you keep them, your limit is higher, but the only way of getting them back if you delete them lowers the OLN.

im so excited for this map pack to come out!
Posted by: VP360 Im sure somedbody will create a canvas with all the objects stacked on the side anyway so I guess it wont be a big deal anyway.
I'll be making that canvas. I live in New Zealand so, like I was one of the first to play Halo 3, I will be one of the first to get Halo Wars (with the Mythic Map pack). Perhaps by the time you have Sandbox, I will have the canvas on my fileshare ;) [Edited on 02.06.2009 6:29 PM PST]

will the new 750 gamer score be unlockable through Halo: ODST?
-
Calling it now: You have to use a tunnel to find the Sandbox skull.
-
Nice. I got a new hazzard to place on my meltdown map. Toobad the new stuff like FX and Killballs are not added to the forge menues for other maps.

Concerned Question: Can you kill a Killball? If that is possible, what it takes then to kill a Killball? Many of you might be puzzled to find me asking this question so soon, but rest assured that my motive is very simple: The mere existence of something which can kill me with impunity really pisses me off. You know... if you hurt me you ought to share the PAIN!!! I also find it curious that you can place exactly two Killballs in Sandbox (and presumably the other Mythic maps as well) ... Am I the only one who is seeing some veiled innuendo here... Halo 3 ODST comes with all of the 24 multiplayer maps Halo 3 will have so far... Sandbox has an irreversible budget glitch... This one was indeed a mixed bag kind of a Weekly Update!

Typo... I think
So, instead of making a "canvas," you should stack all of the original objects off to the side (spawn points included, they're also factored into the calculation), away from your build site, and save them for reuse later. That way, you'll be able to make the most out out of the total number of objects you're given to work with.
I underlined bold and italicized the typo. If that helped, no problem if not, no problem. >>Octane

An awesome weekend playlist is going to result from those killballs, I know it. And a grid is good enough for me. This was a really awesome update. You have my seal of approval, if i could fit the picture of a seal in here...
-
The fact that the items already on the map not counting towards the item limit is good, but it's kind of dumb because it will force you to just throw all the stuff on the map in a big pile while you build.
-
so when do people who dont buy halo wars get the mythic pack? and how is it obtained
-
I think I know what the last line means.

Now that doesn't sound right, its already difficult to put every thing one wants in a CUSTOM map when Forging. And now your making it even more difficult to make a map you can be satisfied with. I thought Forging was supposed to be about CUSTOMIZATION! What was your reasoning in putting another ridiculous limit on Forge? Some on from Bungie PLEASE elaborate!!!! Im confused. Isn't Sandbox supposed to be the ultimate forge map. Well by what Urk said...it seems to me like its being held back from its full potential. Couldn't the Object limit just be fixed to where those objects already on the map aren't counted if deleted. I am still very excited for new maps. Great Update. [Edited on 02.06.2009 8:25 PM PST]

Excellent.... Also, Halo Wars demo is amazing for anyone who hasn't tried it yet. Ensemble was a great choice if a non-Bungie studio had to do a Halo game... okay I know that was off topic, but I was just playing it and having so much fun. Man, the Spartans have some sweet attack animations.

What was your reasoning in putting another ridiculous limit on Forge? Some on from Bungie PLEASE elaborate!!!!
This is revisionist history. Forge was developed to give players a way to move, change, and add a small palette of objects on existing maps and to inject a little bit of fun and variety into custom games. Not until Foundry was released with the Heroic Map Pack did anyone ever entertain the idea of using it to build elaborate, customized maps. Since then, we've added more and more functionality with each new chance we've had, and yet, somehow something like an object limit, put in place to keep the maps playable, and a value most people will never have to worry over, is touted as some kind of failure. Nope, not buying it. If we sent a car to some player's houses, they'd complain that it didn't fly and make them breakfast. :)

Killballs sound awesome! I have some great ideas for using those.

awsome update. i can't wait for the orange ball's of death ;)

Full of win!

A question about the ODST map bundle (with all maps included) : Will all these maps be available by disc with ODST? Or will they just be a series of codes to download the content from marketplace?
