Bungie....you better issue an apology/Statement!

Hey guys. Just to let you know that due to some small message in (or thought to be in) your new trailer that apparantly reads "Wheres Maddie?" small but growing numbers of halo fanboys are posting stuff on websites related to the disapperance of a kid in the UK named Madaline McCann. Now i dont know how well you know the UK press....but they can be, say...reactionary at best. Especially about Maddie. All it would take is a few more posts and you can be sure you'll end up in a few of the red tops....and i assure you it wont be favourable to the Bungie cause. They love a good anti-gaming story. You may want to issue a statement to people telling them to calm down before the press get hold of it. About 24 hours i reckon. Just thought i'd warn you :) P.s Ask Frankie if you want to know more about the British press...i'm sure he's got some horror stories..

Don't complain about it to get attention..it's very immature to say the least.
First off, it was the first thing i thought of when i saw the "maddie thing", its so ingranded into the minds of everyone in the UK. Second the dude was flaming, he was trying to help bungie.
Yeah and well, 9-11 is branded into the minds of Americans and yet the minute someone mentions it, an outsider or forgeiner who doesn't live here in the US flames everyone because they don't understand. Honestly, it's a matter of opinion that the UK people need a statement released about it, What is going to be said in the so called statement? Sorry for using the name Maddie? Bye Bye? Waste of time in my opinion for a company like bungie to release a statement on something totally irrelevant and coincidental to the UK. The only thing i'm really trying to say though is, seriously don't go all public about the matter demanding something. IF the UK has a problem let the UK Media and Press take care of it their affairs with Bungie and butt out of it enjoy the game that they've provided for you and don't complain about every little aspect, it's in a way immature and it gets very old. If you don't like what's been presented to you in the trailer, don't watch it again, don't particpate in the forum activites concerning, boycott the DLC and don't play it. It's simple as that. Please just lock this thread before more of it gets out of hand. [Edited on 09.25.2008 11:51 AM PDT]

More over, studies show that the most overweight people in America are immigrated Brits, more or less of scottish and irish origin. [Edited on 09.25.2008 11:48 AM PDT]

 •
Posted by: OSIRIX IOW Its just bad luck. The british press could possibly have a go but i doubt it would last long and it would probably just be a short bit in a tabloid news paper *cough* The Sun *cough* However many of the people here are being very unsensitive to this. What if someone released a game where two towers are crashed into by space ships on mars and the names of people dieing match up to nick names of people from 9/11. Not linked to 9/11 at all but is that good taste? Its just bad luck that the names connected. Im gussing this may have been part of the E3 delay, i doubt microsoft would have liked it coming out when this was still a huge thing. (I apologise if i have offended anyone by the 9/11 reference however i needed something to get the point across). EDIT: I just thought i should add ive seen alot of posts saying Bungie/Microsofts eternies would sue the UK tabloids. But as i pointed out The Sun would be the most likely one to run the story and if you dont know who owns it google "Rupert Murdoch" If anyone has the funding to cover himself its him. Just pointing it out. If you cant be bothered to google think Bill gates of the world media, his net worth is somewhere in the region of $8.3 billion.
You're being foolish, and before I read another word, the loss of one life is =/= to thousands. A girl disappeared... really? Yeah, my condolences for the family, but honestly, a kid is kidnapped about every 20 minutes somewhere in the world. Take a deep breath.

 • People are actually taking this name and sticking it to an unpleasant real life scenario? Come on people. Madeline/maddie is the name of hundreds of thousands of kids. Someone could make up this crap for any name. If they used references such as, wheres Mike, wheres John, wheres Anna, wheres Benny, wheres Jenna, etc...The list could go on. My point is any of those names I said probably have some horrible story of their own. You guys linked the name to her so you think its about her when in all truth, its just a "coincidence" if at all...

 • Hey all, I just thought I would add my opinion to this coincidence. I am from the UK and since May 2007 The " Find Maddie " campaign has not been forgotten. When I first saw the trailer I was amazed, amazing CG and made us question, then looking here on the bungie.net forums I saw a scrrenshot from the trailer saying "Maddie, Where Are You?" When I First saw this I really did gasp. The controversy that could be created is phenomenal especialy to relatives of the McCann's. I understand where Bungie Staff are coming from, yes it is fictional and yes it's 600 years in the future but they need to expect to see some press coverage about this, no matter how 'Coincidental' Bungie says it is, The English press and McCanns will hold a grude. I don't really see a problem, a games a game, a names a name but thousands of people around the world dissapear every year and have many differant names. If Bungies secret message said "We Need To Find Maddie" I would be appauled by what Bungie said. But that's not what they have said. The teaser trailer is completly fictional and I hope Bungie make an announcement about this before the press do, else Bungie could be in some money trouble.

 • Where has the age gone when people considered logic, reason, and understanding the full circumstances of the situation at hand. I am fully at Bungie's side on this one. I'm find it hilarious that a lot of British think America is retarded. I'm British but i'm an American and i realize that is not so true.

Also the name maddie sells copious amounts of papers on this side of the pond my colonial cousins..... Even though everybody with an inch of common sense knows this is pure coincodence, IT WILL SELL PAPERS. so they will print it..

 • Bungie never intended for this to have any relevance to the "Maddie" case here in the UK. But why are all of you people who are not from the UK saying things like: "my daughter is called maddie, does that mean they are talking about her? I think not" Its not the fact they used to name Maddie it the context they used it in. Now anyone who isn't british dosen't really have any idea about the maddie case or what really happend so stop assuming stupid things. Its not Bungies fault we all know that, its just a really bad and unfortunate conicendence. But either way its probably going to stir up a bit of crap.
