Thorn Crucible Bounty is Ruining the Game for Me.
Yea yea..."git gud scrub."
I am pretty bad at PvP. I got through the Bad Juju bounty easy enough (maybe 3-4 hours of Crucible play). That was because there was no death penalty. Now...with the Thorn Bounty, I'm absolutely broken. I have been playing for over an hour, trying to be conservative and being a camper like everyone hates...and I'm still hovering around 30 points.
I've had a lot of frustration in this game, and all of it was worth it, but this bounty (solely because of the death penalty) is the most punishing thing I've had to do in a game in a very long time. 500 points is a lot, and at 5 points a kill, for someone who sucks at PvP the way I do, is ridiculous to deal with while constantly getting mowed down.
I can understand Exotic Bounties being difficult as a necessity, but they don't have to be this insanely punishing.
I'm at my breaking point. Bungie -blam!-ed up on this one.

*Edit 1: I'm playing as a Hunter. Mostly Control. I just got a Plug One.1 Void Fusion Rifle and it's amazing how much better I'm doing with that over Atheons and even Swordbreaker. I have yet to do CE Hard, so I don't have Word of Crota yet.
Thanks for all the advice from those that gave it, switching to a Fusion Rifle has made a significant difference.
*Edit 2: So after about 4 hours of non-stop grinding, I've managed to get to 428/500 already. Going to be so pumped when this is finally done.
*Edit 3: So after just over 5 hours of grinding, got it done. Pretty stoked on the new piece of the collection, can't wait to get it upgraded and actually use it. I expected some hate from people...I know...I whined. Thanks all for the tips and what not, that definitely helped me out a lot.

1 ReplyOn another note, I was on the kill part of Super Good Advice too, which was silly easy doing in the Dark Beyond mission at the Hive door. 15 minutes, got another exotic bounty knocked out. Pleasantly simple compared to Thorn haha.

Swordbreaker if you have it. I used Atheon's Epilogue back in the day. Isn't really a viable option anymore.

Its one of the very few parts of the game where you get something for having a skill; therefore it is, for me, a cherished part of Destiny. Running around like a moron looking for materials, like spin metal, in random locations, thats a bad game element. Having Crucible rewards that are horrendously bad: thats a bad game element. I dunno... I guess some people don't like to "beat a challenge" and just want randomized handouts.

With the help of a void shotty, and a void green HMG with focus fire. My biggest issue with the bounty is not the death penalty, but the fact that once you start the crucible portion, you're committed to a certain playstyle until you finish. Otherwise, you risk erasing any progress you have made. I don't like running around with a special or heavy ALL the time. Any non-void kill you get is a time waster. I wish you could pause it when you didn't feel like scraping out void kills.

Edited by kellygreen45: 4/3/2015 9:06:46 PMCongrats. Don't feel bad. Atheon Epilogue was never better than a *marginal* PVP weapon. Patch 1.1.1 turned it into a very loud squirt gun. So much so that I vowed to [i]never[/i] do that bounty again (done it twice) until they either buff it back to something reasonable or I get a decent void damage primary. You were fighting with BOTH hands behind your back trying to use it.

Find hiding spots and use a quick charge void fusion rifle like Plug1. Get a kill and hide again. Will be a grind, but you'll get there.

Edited by Lil Scooby77: 4/3/2015 9:02:20 PMVoid shorty with decent range. Try two to the morgue I think that's void when you buy it. Also truth is a godsend with this thing when I did it. My load out was Epilogue Comedian Truth and I got it done within a week. Very different setting though as this was last year and the setting have changed.

I hated it the first time too, i think most us did. Nothing beats the satisfaction you feel when the bounties done and you're holding that gnarled death cannon in your hand. Now go out there and help make some tears fall so people can still tell you "git gud scrub" cause you're using the most OP gun in pvp. :-) cheers

Use your super and grenades as a preventative measure against death. The Supremacy and Truth were all I had as a Hunter. When I did this I think Bastion/First Light were still in the regular rotation IIRC. Other larger maps like Shores of Time and Skywatch are good for this strategy. edit: just read your edit. good job

I feel us man it's a tough bounty, but man it makes the Thorn worth it. That said, you can't say that it ruins the game when you figure out a system and then it only takes 5 hours of crucible to achieve it. It's an exotic bounty and Thorn is the only exotic bounty that gave me any real trouble, it was the only one that felt like an exotic challenge. I hope house of wolves introduces more of these tough bounties.

Good for you. I wouldn't have done it with a hunter as your super melee and grenades are useless. I have the bounty for my titan but may wait until my warlock gets it as I get a lot of kills with his tracking grenades and nova bomb
