The Official "I've been sent to Banadu" Thread
Been banned from matchmaking for modding, cheating, boosting, being a jerk? Post about it and how it was your little brother's fault here. Other threads about this subject can be locked and posters may end up as residents in the official Bungie.net version of Banadu.

[i]Recently, we’ve seen a moderate influx of things appearing in File Shares that don’t belong there. Some this is just tweaked content from Halo 3 that has been uploaded in sundry and illegal fashions. In fewer cases, there have been a relatively small number of incidents of folks uploading inappropriate non-game content to the File Share.
[b]Fair warning: Users who have modified content on their File Share - regardless of who created said content - will be subjected to the full power of the Banhammer’s thrust. This includes some never-before-unleashed technology that will effectively terminate your Halo multiplayer experience online in every imaginable facet.[/b] In fact, the ban is so thorough that simply calling it the Banhammer is a complete understatement. I just couldn’t come up with a more hyper-exaggerated term that had the same feel. Banplatform? Banpocalpyse? Banmageddnon? None of those did the trick.[/i]
Punishments are metered.
Justice is served.
Why so harsh? Because ultimately, the potential blowback for something like Fileshare is pretty grand. The Fileshare is not to enable players to put up whatever they want and think it's hilarious, regardless of how harmful or harmless [i]you[/i] think it is.

For a thread meant for those banned ones to reflect on their ways - there seems to be an enormous LACK of people who have been banned. I was hoping to find some interesting anecdotes, but instead find you bunch of banhammer suck-ups waiting to pounce on a wrongdoer. Quite the disappointment.

Well most of the users who go to Bungie and post on the forums already knew that this stuff would get you banned and had probably already removed it. I'd imagine that pretty soon more people are going to find out they got banned make accounts and then post and stuff until then I wait in anticipation.

Well, i got a permanent file share ban, but a Matchmaking ban also. I've read that if you are the original uploader of modded content, you get banned, i only changed the name and description of the content, i guess that counts also. By the way, i never cheated in matchmaking, i've never sent nasty pictures that freeze peoples xboxs to others, and i have never host booted or lagged people out in my life. So to all that will tell me "OMG READ THE TERMS OF USE" i'm not going to spend 30 minutes reading a document full of rules, i'm going to play the game. I rarely check the updates of this site often, so i really had no prior notice to Modded pictures being a bannable offence. W/e about the file share ban, just not being able to play Matchmaking really bugs me.

finnaly, no one needs an explanation... you all act like little 5 year olds that are at a park, and walk by a sign that says dont walk on the grass. when you walk on the grass and get in trouble, you ask for another chance because you didnt see the sign... And as for not reading the Terms & Conditions, well come one, as if you didn't think there was something wrong about having foreign (That is to say, content that was not made for the game) content in a game. But they must of banned you from MM because the system detected you as an original uploader of the content.

[/quote] Well he might have read it you have no idea if he did or didn't and in the event he didn't it appears that he didn't need to because he knew that uploading illegal modded pictures to his file share would get him banned. You should have known that their are under age gamers on Halo 3 and that they cannot legally view the pornographic pictures. If you going to say Halo 3 is rated M M is 17+ -blam!- is 18+. You also only received a Halo 3 MM ban not an Xbox Live ban. The Xbox 360 has many other online games besides Halo 3 and you can still play custom games. [Edited on 07.29.2008 11:41 PM PDT]

The one flaw the banhammer has though, is assuming that changing the name/description of something that was previously uploaded by someone else, modded content. I'm not trying to bag on anyone, it was my own fault that i kept the pictures in my File share, and got a ban like a lot of other people did. Its just a 1 month ban, and a permanent matchmaking ban for changing the name/description of modded content is unfair. I'll accept the fact that i should have a file share ban, i just want my 1 month xbox ban, and my permanent xbox ban to be lifted.

I totally agree. I dont see why if you changed the name is makes you the author? I think everyhing is fair except for that. I think bungie should take responsibility for their actions by making it so that if you changed the name your the author. A matchmaking ban is 100% unnecessary if you are not the author of the content but I do think that a file share ban is acceptable.

I understand the grounds for all this banning, All im saying is that its unreasonable. If you read the law its illegal to spit on the ground and you can have a sentence of up to 5 years in prison and be fined a maximum of $100,000. Now if you spit on the street and got that sentence and the judge said "You should have read the law" its only what 5800 pages long. You need to take in some self judgement too, but since bungie employee's are so racked up on technical stuff they forget common sense and self decency. But oh well....

To the guy who posted thank you to my earlier post thanks it annoys me when these people forget that their is an age difference between an M rating's requirement and the requirement to view pornographic material it also makes them seem like they aren't looking at the age requirements to view that material and may in fact be breaking the law. But oh well....[/quote] I wish that was enforced. I hated it when my neighbors would just randomly spit because they thought it was cool and luckily they stopped after I politely asked them to. And if people were forced to pay fines for that the (American) government might even be able to pay off some of its debt. These modders were changing the names and descriptions possibly in an attempt to make the files seem like they were their own or dupe some poor innocent kid into looking at the screenshot which he is not allowed to.

5 years in prison no, $100,000 USD yes. by your standards yes I probably should get out more but I see no reason to for myself I'm happy with my life. I'm perfectly content to sacrifice my social life for the ability to score better than the rest of my classmates on standardized tests and its worked so far for me.
