Bungie.NEXT : Switch 101

If you were a user on the previous version of Bungie.net and would like to adapt your old working habits, you've come to the right place. This guide will explain what has been added, changed, and removed from the site. It is currently a work in progress so please feel free to correct any inaccurate information and provide feedback on how this guide can be improved. I do apologize in advance if your eyes bleed from the walls of text. When the beta is over, I will incorporate images and video so this guide is easier to follow. Note: This is only 1 of 2 support guides. The Bungie.NEXT Support 101 guide has not been posted yet. The second guide will be geared toward users that are completely new to Bungie.net and did not use the old site (second guide will include website and Bungie game related FAQ as well as information on how to create an account, link/un-link authentication services, post on the forums, ect.). If you're interested in helping, feel free to send me a private message. ADDED:
Forum tags have implemented to help users filter the content that they want to see. The official forum tags are #Gaming, #Community, #Recruitment, #Gallery, #Feedback, #Help, #OffTopic, and #BnetBugs. Users are allowed to create their own forum tags. If you select follow on a forum tag, it will display in your list of tags so you may easily access it at a later time. You may search for up to 4 words at a time, but if you search multiple terms, it will only display topics that have all search terms included in the subject/tags. At this time, you cannot save multiple tags as one filter. Trending tags are displayed; you may also visit Explore Tags to see the most followed tags. Forum topics now use conversation threading. For more information, please see this topic. Sorting has been implemented so you may sort topics by Latest, Popular, or Debated. Latest displays topics with the most recent reply first.
IN PROGRESS: I'm not exactly sure how Popular or Debated sorts topics. I think Debated sorts topics with the most replies to comments first.
Permalinks have been made easily accessible so you can share direct links with others. Filtering by creation date has also been implemented. You may filter topics created Today, This Week, This Month, This Year, or All Time. Selecting a link that takes you off-site will now give you a warning message that says, "Warning! You are exiting bungie.net and we don’t know what you are going to see here!!!". The link URL is provided. Liking and Disliking topics is now available. This helps determine where a topic should be displayed on the forum index when using the appropriate sorting option. Each post can now have one link URL, image URL, or YouTube video. Images and YouTube videos are embedded so they may be viewed without leaving Bungie.net. Each post now has a "Start Related Topic" button. This allows you to create a new topic based on a post you came across. A link to the post that inspired you to create the topic is provided. You no longer have to type markups as they are easily accessible while composing your thoughts. The spoiler tag is a new addition; it appears just like a quote box, however, you have to select the box to view the content. Also, if you have already have content typed, you may simply highlight the content and select the bold, italic, underline, quote, and/or spoiler button to apply the markup. The link button will put the markup at the place you select and the named link button will put the markup at the end of your content. HTTPS links and named links now work properly.
CHANGED:
All bans were removed because the rules have changed and better tools are available to users. Bans by the Bungie.net moderators will now apply to both public topics and private group topics. Topics by muted users are hidden by default and can't be permanently un-hidden unless you un-mute the user. If you hide a topic, it appears collapsed with a link that says, "+ Hidden Post." This link lets you show/hide the topic temporarily. You may permanently un-hide a topic (that you hid manually) by first selecting Hidden Post to reveal the topic and then selecting the hide post button (this is a bug: it should say un-hide post). If you attempt to hide your own topic, you receive an error message that says, "Looks like you're trying to ignore yourself. While that's very postmodern of you, we don't allow that kind of thing here. Go talk to Ezra Furman if you wanna be ignored." Note that muted users may still view your topics. Posts by muted users are hidden by default and can't be permanently un-hidden unless you un-mute the user. If you view a topic that has a post by a muted user, there is a reveal button at the top that says, "Some replies have been hidden: show all posts." This link lets you toggle hidden posts on/off temporarily. The same message appears if you have manually hidden a post in the topic. You may permanently un-hide a post (that you hid manually) by first selecting show all posts and then selecting show on that post. Note that muted users may still view your posts. The public forums (Bungie Universe, Bungie.net Community, Off Topic: The Flood, The Gallery, The News, The Classifieds, Crimson, Halo: Reach, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo 1 & 2 for PC, Halo: Combat Evolved) have all been combined into one forum. The report feature has been changed and renamed to hide. On the old site, you would select report and OK to confirm. Now, when you select hide, you are prompted to select an option. These options include No Reason Stated, Adult Content, Spoilers, Threats, and Exposing Personal Information. If these options do not describe the reason you are hiding the post, there's a comment box where you can provide more information. The security roles for forums have changed. The previous security roles (NonMember, Member, Forum Ninja, Master Forum Ninja, Web Tester, Bungie.net Admin, Administrator) have been replaced with NonMember, Member, Ninja, and Bungie. Bungie.net moderators have a badge displayed next to their name that says Ninja. Employees have a badge displayed next to their name that says Bungie. The quoting markup feature still exists, but the new forum structure and notification system might convince you to post differently. When a topic is made, you have the option to "comment" on it. Unlike the old site, selecting "reply" to any comment besides the original post will start a threaded conversation. If you reply to a reply, that topic become a debated discussion and you may want to start a related topic at that time. The concept of this idea is to keep posts on-topic; it helps prevent side conversations from affecting/interfering with the main discussion. Replies to comments appear collapsed by default. The benefit to using replies is that they are built into the notification system so you can stay up to date on your debates. The more information box (now semi-transparent hovering over) is now accessed by selecting the Display Name or avatar of a user. It includes the user's Display Name, Unique ID, Motto (formerly Signature), number of followers, and groups (link). Also, there are quick-links provided to easily message, follow/unfollow, and/or mute/unmute the user. The user's gamertag, homepage URL, last forum post date, and link to post history are no longer displayed. The hot topic symbol has been replaced with four symbols (shield with septagon symbol). If the shield is half gray/blue and half white, the topic is popular and debated (in which there are replies to comments). If the shield is all gray/blue, the topic is popular. If the shield is gold, a Bungie employee has posted in that topic. The time stamp of your post is now displayed at the top right. If you edit your post, the original time stamp is replaced with the edited time stamp.
REMOVED:
Forum titles and title bars have been removed. In time, Bungie will be celebrating and decorating the long-standing members of the community. Your legacy will be honored. For now, you are anonymous crash test dummies; so rev those engines and aim for the wall. Pinned topics (also known as stickies and announcements) have been removed from the forum index. Topics are no longer pinned, locked, and archived. The preview option for posts has been removed. Colored text for moderators and employees has been removed.
