We apologize for the downtime, but the RSS feed has suddenly started crushing our web services servers. We're looking into the problem, and it should be up again soon.
Posted by: goweb
hey why dont u run Linux , Xserv for the rss feeds?>
I guess you missed all the ASP.NET stuff that Bungie has.
See, that's the problem being owned by Microsoft. I am curious to see how this entire "project" (aka web, stats, rss...) would perform on a series of linux boxes. MS has made improvements with 2k3 server, but IMO, it doesn't compare to Linux's strength. I manage linux servers that ONLY ever get rebooted when doing a Kernel upgrade. Everything else can be done without a reboot. My web/mail/php/mysql server has been up for 281 days. Try doing that with a windows box.

The propblem, what is this propblem with Halo. Well atleast it's almost fixed
-
Dose this problem effect Halo online or just at BUngie?
-
Well since you everyone on the propblem it should be gone and back online soon
-
hello, me its fact more than 2 to 3 weeks that I tests to look at my stats and its known as No games played and its fact a long time that I tests of envoy of the email to the person responsible for the Web site and anybody my answered I hope that you to go to look at that. here my gamertag: raptor 3x raptor3x_live@hotmail.com

agreed. i always thought the feeds would eventually change and we'd have to re-work our site but i thought the changed would be for the better (ie including medals etc.) i guess i will just have to update every hour or so. :P
-
Yes I just verifed this by refreshing a feed of someone playing currently. THIS SUCKS! I know that everyone who has built a site to read these feeds has spent many hours building them, and now it will be very hard to use them without forcing users to update their stats every 10 games...
-
They seem to be back up! Although, they only seem to be the last 10 games. :(
-
Yes an update would be great!
-
Any timetable when it might be back online?
Posted by: Achronos We apologize for the downtime, but the RSS feed has suddenly started crushing our web services servers. We're looking into the problem, and it should be up again soon.
Please bring the rss feeds back. I think that they are one of the many cool features of Halo 2. Hopefully all will be well again in a few days. Thanks.
-
MasterBum: my site does the same thing, I think maybe there is no limit on the Bungie side of things. Like I said in a previous post, if you hit the feed 3 or 4 times, it just blows up. Cache is good :D
-
its all good i really dont care im just wondering if we'll get our stats back or if we have to start over, i dont mind either way, thanks for you time! HwO Aqua******
-
Well, what I did in my script was cache the RSS feed in a database, and only allow it to update every hour. This allows the script to use less of bungie.net's bandwidth, as well as that of your own server. If everyone were to do it that way, it would make it very easy on bungie ;-).
-
Ummmm, with over 6 million buying H2 Im sure they can afford more servers... ;) make it snappy!
-
Any word?
-
Considering the amount of weight your servers are carrying I say "no worries..." the skope of this problem is miniscule compared to the magnitude of your successes. Hmm that sounded like a fortune cookie... Keep up the good work.
-
Maybe impliment a 1 hit per IP per hour rule, like on Slashdot.org's RSS feeds.. It seems that if you hit the Bungie feeds repeatedly, they just blow up
-
I think that LetTuc3 is confused. The RSS is a feed of your statistics. Do you expect to have the feed back up or is scrapped indefinately. My site myHalo2stats.com uses it and so does HALOader. I am willing to work with you guys to find a way to decrease the draw on your servers all you need to do is tell me what I can do on my end. These external sites are just begining to takeoff, but I agree that bungie.net is the highest priority. Thanks guys for even making these things availible to us.

Thanks for your hard work.. You've developed a really great format for playing these types of games on the web... Your attention to detail is obvious through your incredible workmanship. I'm certain that the bug in your RSS feed will be resolved quickly..

Thanks bucketo :)

I haven't been getting much of Halo lately. Been busy with school and that. But I'll see if I can live.
