Destiny Companion App for Windows Phone

Bringing out a game that is supporting all major platforms (except the Wii U), as consumers we expect a companion app to be supported on all major OS platforms be it Android, IOS, and Windows phone. But the Windows phone version is not planned for the launch of the game. Bungie please reconsider the stance you have taken on the development of a Universal app on Windows 8.1 and Windows phone. As a PlayStation user, i would gladly appreciate the app. Edit 1: Bungie if you think its due to small ecosystem let this change your minds. https://medium.com/@tjesboogie/heres-how-many-downloads-you-get-on-windows-phone-c4395cc96104 Edit 2: looks like some awesome developer has answered the call and made an application. The developer has pushed out an update it is working and will work on launch. (http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/destiny-stats/d0a81df3-35ab-4b86-af93-99afaaefbf1c)

  • Some people that they won't make a companion app for windows phone because of their grudge against Microsoft and thats why Sony gets exclusives one year before Microsoft does. People say the grudge was when the Halo series started and Bungie wanted to take Halo to other platforms but Microsoft had a contract saying that they couldn't do that, that it was an Xbox exclusive so Bungie sold the Halo rights to 343 Industries

Too many developers have been rejecting the Microsoft phones and surfaces branch. If you're going to make a game for a big name like Microsoft since you made it for the Xbox One then respectively it is your duty to follow up and release the app on the other Microsoft devices. Whether or not you realize it there are a lot of xbox fans who use the windows phones. And although it lacks in the app department it is indeed a great phone. If Bungie doesn't get their shit together I'm going to end up loosing my respect for their company. Especially since they used to work so closely with Microsoft it bothers me that they won't even create a damn app for them.

    • Look at the Advanced Destiny Companion - on Kickstarter. A few dollars gets you Beta Access - and I can attest that the app works SOLID. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/151749441/advanced-destiny-companion-app My favorite aspect is "Gear Sets" - predefine you gear - and the app will do all the check-in / out from the vault. Nice App for Windows Phone! - ghostapha

    • I agree, I would love to see Bungie release an official companion app for Windows Phone. With tools like Xamarin there is no reason a Windows Phone app does not already exist.

      • I just posted this on a different thread, but thought this was a better one to post it at (and I can't figure out how to delete the other). -------------------- Although the lack of developing a WP app may genuinely be a Bungie business decision, I'm not buying it. It comes across to me as vindictive... somewhat childish and petty. Bungie has very clearly and with intention given the cold shoulder to Microsoft (i.e. PS4 exclusives, preventing MS from advertising that the game is available on XB1/360 [stupid "business" decision], and of course choosing not to support Windows Phone). I'm sure there were legitimate reasons why Bungie wanted to split from Microsoft, but Bungie choosing Sony is like a beloved adopted child being raised by a family who loves it and then gets it's feelings hurt and seeks out a new family. Isn't there something to be said about loyalty and gratitude? Forgiveness? Microsoft could have been vindictive too and just dissolved Bungie... taken the name and never let them use it again. But they didn't... because they figured it would be the mature thing to do to separate and still remain good friends with the benefit of doing great business together. Bungie... I really wish you'd get over yourself. Let the past be the past. Just work on making good games and supporting both platforms equally with a good attitude. This petty stuff belongs in high school. (And don't blame these decisions on Activision. Any publisher would have written you a blank check to work with them on this project on your terms.)

        • I wholeheartedly agree. Windows phone needs an app, and if you want to talk about it from a game-balancing perspective, the app being unavailable for the Windows Phone puts those users at a disadvantage. The app includes features like the public event timer which can be used to gain rep, materials, and items. As such, Bungie has introduced a powerful tool that is unavailable to a select community but free for everyone else ( its a free app, so profits don't come into play for a 'limited market' argument ). Please don't leave us out just because we prefer a different phone OS.

        • I concur, it baffles me that Windows Phone users are being excluded. Look at it in these terms, since 2001 when Halo first graced are screens, Bungie has relied solely on the loyalty and support of Xbox users. This loyalty led to Bungie becoming more successful then they could have imagined, and without said support they would not still be around today. So I put it to you (Bungie) that your recent decisions (dropping the Halo franchise, pushing Destiny more for PS4, not developing a Windows companion app) seems as though you have out right abandoned your core user base, this upsets me and makes me personally feel like a mug. The same feeling I got when I heard Destiny would run at a lower quality than the PS4, until Microsoft personally intervened and helped to improve YOUR game, something I thought Bungie would want to do themselves considering the history I have mentioned between Bungie and Xbox. I hope you rectify this poor decision and think about the fans that have made you what you are and who still have faith in you and still support you, even as Destiny itself comes under a variety of criticisms.

I see absolutely no valid reason whatsoever for the non existence of a Windows Phone official app. The way i see it, it's just Bungie making a tantrum to Microsoft. They quickly forgot they became famous with Microsoft first console users.

Chris Gossett is the Destiny App project lead - he says in this article detailing the companion app that he's looking for feedback. Chris, we'd love an 8.1 / windows phone app by September please!

              • Windows Phone owners aren't the majority and I wouldn't think less of anyone who works at Bungie if Windows Phone was left on the sideline. I would however, greatly appreciate having access to the Destiny app through my Windows Phone, even if it isn't at launch.

              • I have been a long standing fan of Microsoft and all of my devices run a windows OS and are linked to each other. It simply wouldn't make sense for me to go out a get a phone that doesn't link up. That being said I think that the bungie would be short changing all of the people who use widows phones if they don't include a windows version of the companion app. Please bungie be reasonable
