My Thoughts

This is an edited post I've made else where. People like me are upset because of the lack of information for anything Xbox related till today, then we learn about the year long timed DLC. Then we learnthat Sony had managed to get timed DLC within DLC (Inception?) plus 4 days to their alpha/Beta days. It sucks okay. For people like me who love Bungie it hurts a tad more. (I would really like that Titan armor) To quote one dude: "From webster: Alienation: to cause (someone) to feel that she or he no longer belongs in a particular group, society, etc. Whether you think the reasoning is justified or not does not change the fact that people feel alienated due to these actions." Sure we have some people being overly dramatic (me) but telling them to shut up, to shove their opinions to the side, to mock them, to and insult them simply because they wanted equal treatment is just as bad as anyone who goes around screaming about Bungie betraying everyone. Moving on, nobody on the Xbox was upset when Playstation was included in the community. I and many other people are glad to see that they get to experience Bungie for the first time. The issue came from realizing we were being treated as less than equals, not from the lack of being treated as more. People are not ignoring Microsoft's past history of timed shit (And don't bring up GTA IV, Microsoft helped to fund those two expansion packs, and Sony does timed/exclusive crap just as often as I will list below) but the thing is, nobody I know likes timed content. It's bad for gamers over all. You might win with one game but you lose with the next. Companies will continue to shit all over us since most peoples lives revolve around defending shitty practices as is apparent in this sub when people say "it's just a weapon." "Or it's just one year." I get that three armors, three weapons, three ships, and two maps are not world ending. But the problem lies in the fact that it is there and we can't have it for a year. It sucks, it's not world ending, it's not a betrayal. It sucks. In addition, what pisses of many other people (again me included) is just how unique this whole situation is within Bungie. I've been with B.net almost since it's beginning. I ghosted long before I joined but I've still being here a while so I know what I'm talking about when I say this. It's always been community focused, Bungie has always been community focused. This deal was done at the expense of the community, it was business focused. Bungie and Acitvision could have done numerous alternative things to include the PS community but instead they choose to let money speak and make the inclusions at the expense of people who have stood by them for a decade or more. It is expected, that upon learning about this that people would feel discouraged and upset. For that not to happen would mean we were all robots but we aren't. To call us childish and entitled because we see B.Net and Bungie changing towards PR and business instead of the community we've known for a decade hurts. Yes Bungie is out to make money, but their interaction was completely integrated into that. The Halo 3 beta was a prime example of near continuous interaction between community and developer. They wanted us to buy the product but they also interacted with us. With Destiny, Bungie is unwilling to comment on anything Xbox related. All we get is "Well you get the game" Months of straight up silence preceded and followed by lame "updates" and we get told we get the game? Um, hello can you not even give us the controller scheme? We had to photoshop an image of what we thought the controller scheme would be for Xbox. Maybe you consider it childish, but I cherished seeing urk post in a gamertag thread teasing people for having to find friends. This change in the direction and the PR talk of their posts is at a complete contradiction to their previous actions where we still felt included even when it was about making money. Now it's alienating lots people who've followed them for a decade. And we can't help feeling that way, it's an involuntary emotional reaction to the changes we are seeing.I want to just smile and say "well a year later we all get the same time." But I can't. I don't like timed content, I never have. You're talking to a person who's written letters to developers asking them to stop doing it. I don't like it when Microsoft does it, I don't like it when Sony does it. The fact that this is happening with Bungie makes it even worse for people like me. You may think we are "whiny entitled little shits" but we complain because we care and because we don't like what we see. There are lots of American's who don't like their countries direction right now but they don't move to another one, they simply make their voices heard. Some are louder and less helpful and others are quieter and more helpful. Sometimes it's vise versa. In the end we just want to be treated equally. We want to become legend with you guys, not a year later when we get the next expansion pack. Many of the newer PS members simply don't understand the connection we have/had with Bungie. I don't mean to be rude, but they don't. They weren't there. We complain because we love Bungie the community more then we love Bungie the Company. And we see it changing. Some people are less eloquent, others are perfectly sane. None of us are wrong for voicing our opinion, we are only wrong in how we say it. This timed stuff, firing Marty, the loss of key staff, Joe leaving as well as numerous other head guys, the lack of information on the xbox version, the complete lack of interaction with our side of the community...it just worries us. So we make ourselves heard. shrugs (PS, PS owners I love you. I'm just upset is all) *edit "PS, PS owners." Just noticed how ridiculous that sounds lol

This is not to say Sony is the only one who does timed content, this is to cut off posts that say Microsoft did it all last gen and Sony is only now doing it. Bioshock: Three Challenge Rooms available for $10 on November 20. Smackdown Vs Raw: PlayStation 3, gamers will have the opportunity to pick up five exclusive attires for the premiere wrestling franchise within the industry. Don't fret, these downloads will not include individually priced pieces, but instead, will feature an entire content pack. Far Cry 3: Sony has announced a new DLC for the recently released Ubisoft game Far Cry 3. The DLC, called High Tides, will be a co-op pack with new levels and will be exclusive to the PlayStation 3. It will be released in January. Batman Arkham Asylum: Play as The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum exclusively on PlayStation 3. Batman Arkham Origins: Warner Bros. confirms PlayStation-exclusive DLC features Knightfall and Classic TV series Batman skins, as well as three Combat maps and two Predator maps. Mafia 2: Among the numerous game announcements at Sony's E3 press conference, it's been revealed that the PlayStation 3 version of the game will receive some exclusive downloadable content on release day. The DLC will reportedly provide "hours of content," though specifics weren't revealed. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood: Ubisoft announced today the PlayStation 3 will be getting exclusive downloadable content for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. The content, titled the "Copernicus Conspiracy," will be free and available for the game's launch on November 16. Assassins Creed 3: Benedict Arnold Missions Are PS3 Exclusive Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag: The Aveline DLC missions are exclusive to the PS3/PS4 and are available via a download code inside the PS3/PS4 box. Battlefield 3: PS3 Nabs Timed Exclusive Battlefield 3 DLC LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Asgard DLC Pack is a PS3 and PS4 Exclusive Metal Gear Rising: Think you’ve mastered Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance? Prove that you’re a true cyborg ninja by downloading the PS3-exclusive Virtual Reality (VR) Missions DLC right now! VR Missions are a Metal Gear Solid staple, and we’re pleased to offer these exclusively to PlayStation fans in North America . Street Fighter X Tekken: PS3-Exclusive Mega Man and Pac-Man Are Never Coming to Xbox 360 Most of which never came to the xbox. Oh did I forget the DLC for Red Dead Redemption and a few more I forgot about? Like LA Noire? Mortal Kombat anyone? Don't forget No Mans Sky either. There's more but I can't remember them. Also Microsoft funded Sunset Overdrive and Titanfall, they would not have been made without their involvement. So don't bring up that. Timed content is shitty no matter who does it. I wish an end to it so all of us can get the same game no matter the platform.

  • Thank you, OP. Since this began, I haven't been able to put my thoughts in a coherent whole, but this does so in a reasonable and fair way. I wish other people, xbox and playstation alike, could be as rational. I was ecstatic to learn that playstation was going to be included in Destiny, thinking how great it was that we could share the greatness of Bungie with a vast new demographic. Lately though, I've been feeling somewhat abused; much of which feeling has come from the same demographic which I was so happy to include earlier. The near-total lack of attention from Bungie has stung a little too. Now, I don't know what deals they have made behind closed doors, what NDAs were signed, what decisions were made by whom, and so I can't say it is necessarily the fault of Bungie. But as you said, the emotional response is undeniable. I just wish we all felt as though we were part of the larger Bungie community, whereas, regardless of whether it is right or wrong, justified or not, the community is to a certain degree, split down the line between Microsoft and Sony. Any action (besides "Well, you get the game too") to mend the rift that has developed between consoles would be very appreciated. I am sure Deej is under a lot of pressure, as he is always reading the forums. Given his lack of effective statement on the subject (with the exception of the less-than-satisfying comment in the last mail sack) I can only imagine the position he is in. He is the Community Manager, so his personal feelings about the situation probably are not allowed to be expressed. Deej is a first-rate wordsmith; I may be wrong, but what I got out of that response to "Why do you hate your Xbox fans" was that the people who are working on the game, himself included, have nothing to do with the issue, and that it was management or some other obscure body which caused this issue. As far as he is concerned, we are that unified community, and he hopes that we can all, well, get along, I guess... Without the prospect of significant changes to the conditions which have caused this issue, I suppose the only thing to do is to focus on getting past our differences, of both console and viewpoint, and try to look forward to a new future, one in which Bungie, the maker of games we all want to play, can be loved by (if not all, then at least a lot more) gamers everywhere, and get one step closer to world domination, of course. TL:DR why can't we all get along

  • As an Xbox user, I understand the decisions Bungie has made and I do not feel left out in any way. They're making a nice looking game, and I'll go out and play it. If they want to appeal to another audience I'd rather embrace it than complain.
