Will Destiny be local Co-op?

When I am over at my friends house will i be able to pick up a controller and play with them right there? If my girlfriend wants to come over and play destiny with me will she be able to? I think it would be a great shame if you weren't able to. You could use a system like Borderlands has done and make the second player join in the current story of the first player, or, just let them play on a coop mission or twelve, all the while getting the loot, xp, and money of the adventure. Not to mention a local multiplayer competitive mode option like most first person shooters have. I honestly hope that Bungie decides to implement some kind of local coop, even if it is only competitive.

 • The answer: No. Unless Bungie says otherwise. It would be better to find out the day the game comes out.

 • Personally I'm hopeful, Reason being, in every interview the guys at bungie talk about how this game is all about playing with your friends, in the most universal ways possible. Plus they've taken influences from games like borderlands and even there own halo stuff which have split screen, and whenever they mention halo it seems like their bummed that they didn't implement more co op stuff, which is more of they're goal with this game.

 • if you are referring to splitscreen play, watch the video in the article on the Game Informer website. Lars Bakken, the lead designer of Halo 3's and Destiny's competitive multiplayer, tells that they can't talk about that now. I linked you the video because it is awesome and worth the watch.

 • most likely no So far everything sounds like the entire mmo/shooter game world is being constantly run on their servers and that's where your characters are going to be saved under your account. It's probably going to follow WOW, Aion, Rift, Guild wars 2, Planetside 2, Diablo 3 PC, and many other online required games that give you an account when you purchase the game allowing you to create characters, but you only get one account when you purchase and can't have more than 1 character logged in at any given time. All we know so far is you have more than one character slot on your account which we can see on screen shots/video and that multiplayer is tied to your single player character like guild wars 2 so you can't play multiplayer till you make a character. Of course that doesn't mean they won't bring a system where you can sign in as a 2nd player if you both have your own destiny accounts. But then you have the problem of an open world mmo/shared world shooter trying to tether two accounts together so you guys don't get to far apart which probably is harder to do when no character data is saved at all on your home console. I guess their server would have to recognize you guys being together.

 • Bungie hasn't commented on split screen play yet.
