Clan Support is back! (The manual)

Clan support is back! A short manual and 5 minutes work. Guys, girls, in a way clan support is back, thanks to Xbox Live Programming and the latest update! By creating a free Silver account on Xbox Live (and a new Live ID) you are able to group members again, called clans! What do you need to do to create a clan? - Create a valid Live ID with your email account or sign up for a new one (http://accountservices.passport.net) - Create a new gamertag as Clan name, for example THE BEST SNIPERS (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/myxbox/myprofile.htm) - Activate the new gamertag and login on Xbox Live (http://www.xbox.com) - When logged in, you can click on “View Friends” and add new members to the clan -list If you want to use the gamertag (clan name) with your Xbox 360, you should create a new account in the Dashboard. - First you need to make sure the Xbox 360 Live is connected to the internet. - If you are signed in to a profile, sign out. - Then go on the Xbox Live section in the dashboard to Join Xbox Live. - Then press the A button twice and follow the steps on the screen. - During the creation of your profile you will be asked to choose the membership type you want either Silver membership or Gold membership. I recommend you to choose Silver membership if you don’t want to pay at all, it’s for free! As for the first three Xbox 360 Live profiles you are eligible for 1 Free month Gold trial if you choose Silver membership. It will be upgraded automatically to Gold but only for 1 month free. After this month you will be downgraded to Silver or you can extend your subscription either for 1 month, 3 month or 12 month using either a credit card (Visa card, Master card or American Express ) or a prepaid card. Now you can team up as a clan, just like in the old days! Clan functionality - Clan invites made by the owner (Overlord) - Clan invite requests made by member (add friends, or use of private messages or email) - Clan member overview for all, including game play and online status - Clan control by one person (or share passwords and Live ID) - Use of symbols for ranking - Make more friends and preferred members - Optimized use of the message system for invites and announcements - Able to have clan matches again, you can send mass invites - Having the community feeling again - An online clan members list (xbox.com) - Not only for Halo 3 (sorry Bungie, but it’s true) - and much more... To know if an clan name is not a member name, you can come up with: 1) TPG (as Community name) 2) CROW (as clan name) 3) LV (as division) Result: TPG CROW LV (uppercase to indentify clan names or add the text CLAN if you have space left). Well, that’s all folks, cya online! Cheers! TPG Woozy Add on: In your game or Dashboard, go to your friend list for the overview and select a friend. Pick his/ her Personal Information (second Tab) and click View Friends… but it can be a clan name too! Get it? [Edited on 12.05.2007 5:24 AM PST]

 • It's a shame this idea didn't catch on as well as it should have. I've been using it and it's an awesome idea! It's better than nothing, and it's a quick and easy way of keeping track of who in your clan is online at that moment. And maybe...if M$ catch onto this, they'll see the potential and hurry up with their Clan Support...which they've apparently postponed.

 • I had the exact same idea, and made a PHP script out of it. Now you can have an online clan list that everyone can see, even if you're not the owner of the gamertag. It also has functions to add/remove friends, automatically accept or decline friend requests (open or invite only membership). I'm currently in the process of creating other pages for the website (like a news page, a calender of some sort, etc.). I'm not very good at the actual web design or graphics part of making a website, but I can write scripts :). If anyone has any bright ideas for features or would like to make some graphics, I would really appreciate it. Here's the website I'm making for it, click the 'Demo Clan' link on the left if you want to see it in action. http://xblclan.spasm.in/

 • Yeah, you can setup a poll, but that would not change anything :-( Bungie made up his mind and the answer is no. Also the whole membership administration is now done by XBL and not by Bungie. Even Major Nelson (Larry, director XBL Programming) told me he is not able to develop specific clan support. What we are able to do (with this new option) is an improvement and with this workaround we have clan functionality. The disadvantages are minor (as described before) and I'm glad we came this far already. Maybe XBL will create an extra option or symbol in the future to identify a gamercard (member) as clan, but in the meanwhile we can use the green symbol --> view
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. – Herm Albright
[Edited on 12.06.2007 7:43 AM PST]

 • I agree, whether or not if bungie would ever even even try to indulge in it again is up for a poll. I personally think because there is so much talk about bungie should atleast poll the community. A poll would be a nice indication whether or not it should come back.

 •
Posted by: Litez well not to sound a bit rude...
Oh no, ur not rude dude, maybe my English is not that good , sorry ;-) haha lol extra annoying players, you will find them all over the planet, thats the reason we are having community rules to make game play more fun without the -blam- it's indeed about how you organize your clan or group of friends. As a clan (I like to call it clan) you agree to some rules, so you can make it more dynamic (including community website etc.) and let more people in... personal I like to see new faces all the time.. Your goal is to have a great time in game play without endless discussions, good point, and you know the guys... As community it's a bit alike, only the size and new members... having rules is the answer ;-) [Edited on 12.05.2007 7:07 AM PST]

 • well not to sound a bit rude, I apologize if I do come out that way. But lets face the facts the community is based on 3 groups when it come to whether a clan playlist/ blade should be put in halo3/xbox live. There are those who want it, those who oppose it, and those who can care less about it. I for one am for it. I only play halo 3 with my "clan" I've known these guys since childhood. I only play when they are on . The majority of my games are BTB now. As for the grouping comment. I mean, wouldn't it be easier to group such friends " Static Players" as a clan so that everyone can talk strategy etc, play together as a team without extra annoying players on your team... •
Posted by: Litez Secondly wouldn't it be easier to just remove all your friends and add them back on to group them??? Can anyone try this ... I'm at work.
You mean to split up your friend list? For example a group for snipers, forge builders and BTB? Like favorites? It's the same as creating clans, only you are giving up your original friendlist. If I'm in a clan, I don't want to play BTB all the time, so I will switch clans then... The advantage is that you have a choice beeing a member of a clan... you can play as clan to achieve goals as a clan, but still you can go back to basic and play with your friends (and other game types) in your friend list. We are now discussing the use of clans, not really the subject in this thread. Look, as community you want to team up, but also you want to keep ur FL alive (a kind of a basic list to fall back on, maybe you know the guys for years).. ;-) [Edited on 12.05.2007 6:48 AM PST]
Posted by: Leprechaun007 not to take the glory away from the thread starter, but Feisty Goat created a thread about this a few hours ago, it was the first i saw on the topic... just think his name should be thrown in here.... here's the thread http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=14985052&postRepeater1-p=1#14985237
There was one with the same stuff on here in the middle of the day yesterday too, and that was based on the original article on Penny Arcade, apparently. The OP was more organized with this one, however.

 •
Posted by: Terryrh stupid thing if you ask me why dont they just bring the clan option back
Because Clan support was Halo 2 and we are talking about XBL functions? Bungie will not create clan support for Halo 3, it's old news.
Posted by: Terryrh creating a gamertag to be your clan is just stupid when you can just add friends to your current list
If your gameplay is with friends only, then I understand you. If you also want to play with a clan (for example "all snipers") then you have a choice to play within a community with members who are having the same interest, like to snipe! That's the clan spirit. Everybody has a way to play games ;-)

 •
Posted by: Litez The real question is , how can you group friends while logged on in your gold account?
... so that they can add the clan members by using the Xbox Live website or, by using a recovered account on the Xbox 360 (see my first post in this thread). In other words, use the 360 by logging off and on (use the free Silver account), or, use the Xbox Live web interface: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/myxbox/myprofile.htm

 •
Posted by: DRAGONHART NICK
Posted by: masterchief200 How does this work?
i dont now how it works ethier lol
look, you make a Silver Xbox Live Gamertag, so its free. have everyone in your clan add that gamertag you just made to their friends list. then, you can go to that gamertags friendslist, and will see all your clanmates. so basically, its a clan list. the "Overlord" would be the person who made the GT, and so he sends FR from that gt, and then that guy can add everyone else.

 • Clans will be created, my white paper(bag): I will try to explain how I did it for my clan (and community), this because you need to know a few things, especially if you are having shared clan ownership (shared overlords). So, because of the clan support, we have created all the existing TPG clans with a TPG Live ID (we are using the TPG mail system for the email address, this to make live easier, I’ll explain). After the creation of the clan names (and Silver account), the account will be transferred to the General, so that they can add the clan members by using the Xbox Live website or, by using a recovered account on the Xbox 360 (see my first post in this thread). Because we are using the Silver Xbox Live membership, the clans are totally free of costs (I had to repeat this). When a general is adding his members, they should work on the symbols for ranking; add the motto and maybe more information about your clan. Look at the example of TPG MOUNTIEZ LV, this clan is ready to go and all the member requests (clan invites) have been send (now waiting for the confirmations). A few points of consideration: - A clan name should be written in UPPERCASE and add the name CLAN under ‘Motto’? - Gamers can be a clan member in one or more clans (we prefer only one; dedication) - Pending requests are hidden for others - By requesting the total list of members (See Personal Information or setup in http://www.xbox.com/fof/ ) the viewer will not see their own name. To determine if he/ she is clan member, they should look in their own friends lists. - The clan names are hit proof, because TPG can recover the Live ID accounts (by using our own mail server). Not every community will have such, so try to agree about who is the gatekeeper and (shared)owner. Within 15 minutes I was finished; it’s not hard to do (adding FR by using the website is so easy) Then, be patient, this is a new approach, but also transparent, gamers will get the picture soon enough. Good luck with sending the invites (use the Xbox Live website, copy and paste if you have the Halo 2 clan list). Let’s have some clan matches soon! Cheers, TPG Woozy A few disadvantages in a bag: - Xbox Live Silver is free now… - Clan names can be hijacked - One Microsoft Live ID max. per Clan name - There are no clear symbols (or options in the profile) to indentify if it’s a clan or a person. So use the green default Xbox Live Logo to create a trend
Thanks Ash ;-)
[Edited on 12.05.2007 5:38 AM PST]
