One of the plug-ins that helped audio wizards Jay Weinland, CPaul and Marty O'Donnell turn it to 11.

They said something along the lines of "it's too complicated to use the center channel for weapons". Total Bull-blam!-. It's really pathetic actually, compared to the hype and what else is out there. I don't see them giving the same lame excuses, because THEY DON'T HAVE TO.
-
So is this the reason that 5.1 SS sounds so badly balanced? I have heard louder wet farts than the guns in Halo 3 and most of the time the speech sounds like everyone's mumblimg! Did someone just 'forget' that there is a centre channel on 5.1, because it certainly seems like it! (Before it's suggested: yes my 360 has the right sound settings and yes I'd do know how to set up a home cinema system) Please fix it.

I hear no waves, I hear no bass, I "feel" nothing from the audio. Totally weak. Go fire a Pulse Rifle or SMG in HL2 and see the difference, it's no comparison. "" Keep doing it Bungie. You guys really take things to a new level!! "" If that's what you think, then they really do have you brainwashed. Kind of like Bose and its -blam!- products, yet people keep buying it and buying it due to their successful marketing.
-
I use Waves in my recording studio and can say without a doubt they are the best in the business. Bar none. I lust deeply for the L3. Anyway, Halo 3 is fantastic. On every front. I do wish you could adjust varying volumes though. I love the time, wit, and sheer creativity invested in the AI dialogues and wish I could enjoy them more. Unfortunately, without raising the volume to a ridiculously high (and marriage threatening) volume this is tough. Still, that's a rather retarded complaint considering that $60 and a Gold account will give me a couple of years worth of world class entertainment. Oni was an amazing game that I played years ago on my PC... admittedly I had no idea who Bungie was... nor did I care. It was just a riveting game. Keep doing it Bungie. You guys really take things to a new level!!

so, are they telling use about one of thier features that we already have, or are they telling us about something you can get? methinks the first
-
Bump for the -blam!- audio.
Posted by: KSMO wow thats so cool... when are you guys gunna adress the problems in accual gameplay?...
Man I can see the sarcasm dripping from this post... I agree, considering they just participated in "the biggest media event ever" or whatever exclamation they used you'd think they'd maybe say a word or two about all the issues people are having. Been a few weeks now and radio silence... Glad to hear they are using audio VSTs in the game though. Whoa. ~telengard

So this is the reason some sounds in the game are uncomfortably loud? Playing with headphones is like taking a gamble with your hearing. Some of the dialog is too quiet, and then a battle cruiser will fly nearby and deafen you. You'd think that advanced headgear will filter and normalize sound. :P But the audio in the game is quite well done. And it's good to see that, after this was mentioned in the podcast, a little more light is shone on it.
-
And how much was Bungie paid for publishing this?
-
How can I install this? Because my audio sounds nothing like the "after" video when comparing the 2. Explosions are flat with no bass and no feel.
Posted by: DrKlahn The sound design in the Halo games has always been great - the music, the ambient, and the effects. Even though Halo 3 raised the bar in many ways, it does have one major flaw... The volume levels are the same for almost everything. The wepons fire is the same volume as most of the ambient sound effects, and the Marine chatter. Even the volume of the bullets hitting the watter is the same as the weapon firing. It's as if it has all been over balanced. The weapons and explosions should be the loudest sounds in the game, and this is not the case. As a result, the weapons you're using in the game feel like they were made by Mattel. The game has lost a certain visceral feel most 1st person shooters have. I'm surprised Bungie let this go - given how Bungie is known for their attention to detail.
That is the ONLY qualm I have with the audio in the game, its really hard to hear what the grunts and other enemies/teammates are saying. It would be nice if there were 3 different volume controls: 1. Music 2. BG Sound(Weapons and such) 3.Speech to make it easier to hear what funny sheet is being said.

I still stand by my assertion that Halo 3 has used audio better than any game to date. Marty has outdone himself...and may now have my lovechild.

Great examples. I also love the QuickTime movie being hosted by Microsoft. :) [Edited on 10.20.2007 9:31 AM PDT]

wow, thats an amazing difference (not sarcasm)

I've i've noticed this quite a lot actually. Its really, really good. There are still issues though. Just a few days ago, a grenade exploding in one of the hallways on the Ark, where a brute had just opened a door, still sounded like the door was closed. THAT was kinda messed up. But the rest of the game is great.
-
galva you're a douche and -blaming- idiot for what you just said. halo is great and if you think it is a terrible piece of crap, then i guess it takes one to know one. but you're still wrong
Posted by: Blank Mind The audio is amazing...but why are you advertising for them, Bungie?
because thats all the have to brag about. The campaign is average ,multiplayers has alot of flaws still. The graphics are poor ,it's not even in HD and that for the 360 flagship title.... what else can you do ,but brag about the audio........lolz thats all there's left

The audio is -blam!- awful. Is this a -blam!- joke?? [Edited on 10.19.2007 6:11 PM PDT]
Posted by: Friktified
AnalogWeapon Just last night, I was in forge, and I paused the video where a player had dual SMGs blazing.
*Stupid gaggling* hehe: You meant "Theater".
Lol. Duh: Me.

That's nice and all lukems. But when are you guys going to start to work with something which will pull yourself more into the gameplay. For instance you could start fiddling around with some spatial hearing techniques dependent on binaural characteristics or holfonia slash holographic sound. It would make a world of difference in the gaming experience.
-
cool tho l dont think l understood what most of that meant lol

Seems a bit like adevertising disguised as a factoid.

Sweet, I don't know anything about audio but I still eat this kind of stuff up. Any chance we can have something like this for HDR lighting and what goes into creating that? ~J
