Well a couple of things strike me about silencers not being a good idea:
First is the red "X" that appears when a player on your team is killed. For me, anyway, that is a much more accurate and noticeable representation of where the opposing team is than trying to trace the sound - even if you DID have surround sound.
Note also that snipers have the tracer smoke (or for the covvie sniper, the fading beam), which tells other players exactly where the sniper is. Rockets, plasma weapons, BR bullets, and needlers all are easily traceable back to their source, assuming that you can see the shot. Silencers on a shotgun or sword don't seem possible, but the red X would tell you that a close-range kill occurred anyway.
I think a silencer seems pointless in light of these issues.

grabs candle before mr party hat..
the silenced things seem like a good idea now that i think of it... but they don't really work well on large maps...in smaller maps like lockout sinced guns would do well.. but reducing the damage done with silenced guns seems like a good idea[/quote]
Why did you quote my post when writing that? Especially without countering any of my arguments, considering that my post refutes your entire idea?
