Emulation

So, do you guys think the new members that are coming with Destiny will try to emulate the Halo generation of members just as some of the Halo generation tried to emulate the Marathon generation.

  •
Posted by: POKEY CLYDE I think OP's asking if there will be players (who are not Halo fans) who come in with Destiny, love it a lot, then love Bungie, and want to be a total fanboy.. so they say (or they go play) Halo, and in turn, talk about how awesome Halo is. Like with some people who've played Marathon. They had probably never heard of it before they became a part of this community, and never planned on playing it until they started to love Bunige and decided that checking out Bungie's past was worth it. Do I think THIS will happen with newer members that come in with Destiny, probably not anytime soon. Halo is well known, someone who hasn't heard of Halo is rare. And if you decide not to play Halo, it's out of your own free will basically, ahahaha. It will be a number of years before something like that happens.
This is exactly what I meant.

  • What we have here is a failure to communicate at times. New members join with this lofty i am better gamer high horse stance at times. Not all do. Bungie fans are still here despite HALOs departure. Destiny will see a new influx. What you do on a consle does not relate at all to B.Net in the way some think. Its always a process to get those few i hate to say it who will be bungie fans not tied to the next game release.(Sorta like a rock band who has fans just show up to hear them play on a tour basis. With the next album.)Some head in here to show us old timers how to post. or ruffle feathers Question is will there be good ones or bad ones. It creates allot of flux here. Trolls who want to be cool kids will do so like before. Who i worry about are those who are a breath of fresh air who might be scared off. I hope they stick around. -Commander approves of this Massage.. [Edited on 12.29.2012 2:53 PM PST]

  • They will obviously want to fit in, so they will try to emulate the veterans.
Posted by: Pogo947
Posted by: Delta 15t Hopefully they will not emulate the flame wars of k/d ratio and rank in a video game. Such as it happened in the Halo days. ~Delta
Yea please. I remember being involved in those wars, I'd take em back if I could >.>
Well they're not going to fit in well if they do -blam!- like that. Hopefully, the noobs will breathe a new soul into this site.

  • They will most likely will, which is why we should set a good example.

  •
Posted by: Verachi The Halo community is a horrible community for the most part. Hopefully they'll be better, but I doubt it...
I honestly think it's more of a generational thing. My generation (and the one directly proceeding it) is one of privilege, to be honest, and is always quick to blame the developer and not themselves; to blame lag and not their skill (or lack thereof); to blame their teammates and not their own no-hand-eye-coordination-having asses. It'll continue, though hopefully not as bad as the Reach era.

  • I dont think there will be as many new members as you guys think. You forget that other sites will have plenty of available information on Destiny. IGN for example released info before bungie did. Perhaps after the game is released there will be a huge influx, but im thinking not before. [Edited on 12.29.2012 7:22 AM PST]

  • No, actually you bring up a good point, intended or not. I can't speak for ecartman, but these are things I hope will not happen with the new game. Although it will. I just hope it will be minimal. ~Delta
Posted by: SharkTooth__ I worded that terribly. Sorry, boys
[Edited on 12.29.2012 7:05 AM PST]

  • I don't think anyone cares what Bungie games you played

  • Well, there was no Bungie.net Marathon generation considering the site was created in 2001, the same year Halo: CE came out. Also, that'd require them to do research to find out how the Halo generation considering the two will be separated by more than a year of Bungie's focus on the generations' namesakes.

  • Exactly. Then we see all the "This sucks" and "That sucks" threads in which people jump onto the bus with because they want to be cool and say something sucks because someone else said it. When in all actuality, the game at hand was at least good. ~Delta
Posted by: ecartman1214 Ah well in that case, I can certainly see people doing. A lot of members that return are going to have high expectations based on Halo. In the end you can bet there will be some butt hurt members complaining that Destiny isn't a Halo reboot.
•
Posted by: ecartman1214 Could you specify a bit more? I don't quite follow.
I think he means the people who played Marathon back in the day, and they always talk about how great it was and stuff.

I think that new members of the community will try to assimilate into the culture, if that's what you mean. But while they will grow into the community they will still brink new things to the community that may change some of the older members.
