Must I Use A Sniper Rifle For The Recon Class ? (BF3)
so i got BF3 for christmas and so far I have really been enjoying the multiplayer, I use the Recon class the most but not for sniping, I'm the kind of player who sneaks into enemy territory, places down a spawn beacon and gets out
I mean i'm no sniper, I've admitted it to myself and am not in denial unlike most others who use the recon class, I prefer to use a shotgun and when I unlock a PDW like the PP2000 then I'll probably start using that more often
now I don't negate the sniper rifle from my loadouts all the time, I do use them but i prefer to take the scope off or use a more close quarter scope like the ACOG, i don't like being miles away from the battle giving no help whatsoever
now since i got that out of the way here is the reason i made this topic, after a successful conquest game i recieved a voice message from another player in the game who was in my squad, basically the sender was what i assume to be angry at my usage of a shotgun for a recon class, telling me to play the game and class properly
obviously i dismissed this angry rant of the unknown player and got ready for the next game which was rush on a large-ish size map (forgotten the name of it, had a big "lighthouse" on it) so since it was a larger map i changed my loadout to an SVD without a scope, thinking to use the weapon more as a semi-automatic battle rifle over a sniper rifle, and after losing the game i got another message from the same person with yet again another angry rant calling my abusive names and childish whining for my 'Misuse' of a sniper rifle, i left the game shortly after that
really what I'm asking flood is must I really use a Sniper Rifle as a sniper rifle when playing online or should i take the "I bought the game so i'll play the game however i bloody want to" attitude ?

I feel cheated and I feel like a cheat when I do so. My longest head-shot is 906.62m, and that was on my unsuspecting friend running in CB on CQ. Personally, I'll always use Recon for range, as I'm pretty much untouchable to the enemy team, as I've only ever been killed by my very same friend on the very same map with a 777.77m head-shot. Spotting enemies, shooting people arming/capping a target area is what I do. That is supporting the team. To cap this, the most noob-friendly class is Support. [Edited on 12.31.2012 10:30 AM PST]

IMO, I'd prefer a Recon with a shotgun on [i]any[/i] map than a recon sitting miles away from anywhere doing feck all. Though you could use a different class to help with ammo and health, or taking out vehicles, it's your playstyle and if you're happy with it, continue on. Ignore the idiots who hate moving recons because they can't get their tags... If anyone does complain about your playstyle, rub it in their face with a long teabag.

I believe the class is called "Recon," and you're doing exactly what it specifies. Play how you want to play, OP. Your game, don't let anyone ruin your experience.

Honestly, I'm sort of torn with this. One thing that I hate is when users abuse certain perks and guns that are available to them. Moreso, to the point of quick scoping, and using snipers for close quarter combat rather than what sniping was meant for. But, to each their own. I'm more of a run and gun type gamer. I love running around with C4 and throwing it and getting that kill. So rewarding. :P But meh, I just play the game and don't let it affect me too much.

Being a long range sniper can sometimes be hard cuz you have to compensate for latency. But OT you can play how you want to, doesn't bother me or most people posting here obviously.

I got back into BF3 lately and I have been owning as a sniper. Usually, I just mark people with the mav and then pick some snipers off.

You can always use the sks, it's really not a sniper rifle.

Play however you want to play. If it's fun to you don't let anyone else bother you. Besides surpressed MP7 and M1911 Surpressed with Recon class is amazing. Place a spawn beacon behind their spawn and run around killing them.

Nobody likes cliffwankers. Playing the objective and using bolt-actions require skill, thats why most people prefer to run around as an assault and AEK or just sit in a cliff 1000m away from the objective, but once you get a hang of it, it's easy to dominate against those "Oh-so-pro" assault whores. If he wants to use the Recon class "properly" let him, but don't let him ruin your experience. I use a shotgun or PDW on my Recon class all of the time, just because one person doesn't like how I play doesn't mean I should stop playing that way.
