A social test.

I wonder... If you reply to a post without quoting the author of it: Do you think, and I say think because this is an unconscious decision to you, that most of the time when you click reply, it is to a post that is more interesting than average, solely because you unconsciously deem it more interesting than most? -Rephrased en Ingles: When you reply to a post without quoting anyone, do you think that most of the time you reply to someone who made a more interesting or funny post? Just because that the post you replied to was unconsciously more interesting to you? Do you think that when there is no especially interesting post that you will actually (if on the first page) scroll all the way back up to the top to reply just to the OP (without quoting) just because it is the original post? -Rephrased en ingles otra vez: If there is no particularly interesting post, do you think you have ever scrolled all the way back up if you were on the first page just to click reply to the OP? Please read the original non-translated paragraphs because they provide a more accurate idea of what I was talking about compared to my translated paragraphs. -Side note: Just to iterate again, this is about posts you DO NOT quote, it's just about which kinds of posts you think you normally hit "reply" to, but actually do not quote. What an interesting social question. Bungie should test it out and keep track. [Edited on 11.15.2012 7:13 PM PST]

 • I use the quoting system to show to whom and to what I am responding to. Sometimes that is the OP, sometimes it is not. I generaly do not quote the entire OP very often, as that is almost the same as just responding normaly. When I do only post a quote I try to go for the quoteed quote that has been quoted the most... I mean:

This

over this

But, I don't mean
This
[Edited on 11.18.2012 4:26 AM PST]

 • I don't know what the hell you're talking about op but I typically just edit out the text in the quote boxes if I think it makes my reply look too cluttered. Like this:
Posted by: Cowgoesmoo
wut? [Edited on 11.18.2012 4:20 AM PST]

 • I don't know about you lot, but when I click reply I usually just have an opinion. Whether I quote something or not, that's what it boils down to. If a certain post sparks my interest, I simply quote and: +1 the poster, elaborate further on what they say, or tear their posts into shreds. >=)

 • I actually knew exactly what you meant the first time I read it, and no, I don't think so. Whenever I hit reply to comment on something, I click the closest "reply" button to my cursor, so yeah, definitely don't do that.

 • If I understand the question, when I reply to a post I'm referring to the OP and the discussion value he presented in his thread. I quote someone when I'm referring to a specific post after the OP.

 • Obviously I'll quote a post that helps prove my response valid, or simply because I agree with a certain post.

 • Why did I waste 2 minutes wrapping my head around the OP's idea and then realize that clinical studies don't work over the internet?

 •
Posted by: True Underdog wat
He's saying that do you tend to simply quote people because it is an interesting post, and because of this does it detract from your posts value?

 • I won't quote sometimes if I'm responding to the OP, or there's a conversation going on between me and another member, and we post frequently enough so that our posts are close together.

 • Uhh... I think I know what you're asking. I usualy quote every post I reply. And if I don't, it was an accedent. I just like to make sure people know who I am talking to. Unlees it's the OP, then that's pretty obvious.

 • One of the mods is a big fan of responding to people without quoting them; can't place my finger on which one it is, though. OT: If the social test was to see how easy it was to totally and utterly confuse and bewilder everyone reading your post... I think you have your result quite plainly. ©

 • Sometimes. I usually will quote if I think its really worth quoting. I will sometimes reply specifically to the post I liked, without quoting it, even though it means nothing to do so. I'm not sure why.

 •
Posted by: Statefarm98 I read the OP, then the comments. If I am lazy I just quote something that I agree with or thought was clever. If there is nothing worthy of my quote button (all hail the quote button!), I just click the closest post to hit reply. I don't scroll back to the OP. (I think I answered your questions OP....)
Interesting replies. Alright. I'll rephrase my paragraphs accordingly seeing the results, as clearly they were confusing. Well thanks for answering, but anyways I meant that without quoting, which posts did you reply to, but not quote.
