Yeah I know this thread is made everyday, but man those days before Reach were awesome. The journey to Recon, double xp weekends, the amazingly high population after 3 years... Halo 3 was just the best.
Like I said nothing new here... just was thinking about Halo again with 4 coming out so soon. This thread is just dedicated to the great days of Halo 3. Lets hope 4 returns to the good old days, even though it doesn't look great now.
It's still easy to notice that the only playable playlists at any given time is Team Slayer and Social Slayer. Most are dead, some are dead depending on what time it is.
At low ranks, perhaps. 50 high you get matches in everything except for MLG.

Im glad to see people see it my way, Halo 3 is and always will be the best game bungie created, Along with Halo 2 ofc!
Posted by: Altered Vista Slightly off topic, but has reference to missing Halo 3 Halo 4 is better that Reach in some ways: the guns and the maps, but even worse in a couple others: camping with camo, camping in general. I think the problem is I'm playing regular Infinity Slayer which has the small maps, but Camping is unbelievably rampant. It seems that everyone has this SAW gun and just sits in a corner with it. Overall I can tell I won't be able to stat pad like Reach because Rushing around the map alone is going to get you owned by campers. So my KDR is likely to below 4 in this game :( but I've heard a few players who's KDs have risen to 7.5-9 KDR so maybe I'm just not used to it. Also, I already miss Halo 3 a little although Halo 4's campaign is turning out amazing and just right in difficulty. Halo 4 is a decent game, but overall it doesn't feel like Halo 2 or 3. The guns do and the maps are ok, but AA + camping = me hate.
I agree. I enjoy playing it and look forward to the 1-50 ranking system, but it's not the same as Halo 3, and I'm sure I'll come back to it after a month or two.
Posted by: Altered Vista
Posted by: swvjdirector Dude, Halo 3 isn't dead, or even close to it. What's there to miss? Double EXP, maybe, but it's still alive. It's fine if you want to play other games, but it's not dead.
C'mon be honest. It doesn't feel the same as prime at all. The most competitive playlists are plagued with cheating and long search times. Lag is more rampant because of less players in your local region. The community doesn't call out even at high levels. I liked playing with you director because you are one of the few players that actually plays right. Searching alone though even at 50 high, it feels pretty dead. I will play Halo 3 till the day it turns offline. However, the game could use an update to combine playlists and remove search restrictions. -sd42isbk
I'm not going to lie; you have some valid points. The game isn't gone forever or anything, but it's true that competitive playlists are dead. I hope there's an update for H3 as well, but I can't see that happening now, even to consolidate playlists. I hope H4 gets strong support then, but I'll undoubtedly go to Halo 3 in a few months, just like always. :)

Back before Reach, Halo 3 just felt so alive. There were customs, Machinimas, and everybody was playing it. Good times.
Posted by: Mythical Wolf
Posted by: GoldenEagle29 If Halo 3 had nearly 30,000 on a night wouldn't it be top 5 on the xbox live activity chart?
You call that a high population?
Meant 15....

Halo 3 isn't dead the only playlists I think are dead is swat, snipers, skirmish and action sack(depending on time) and...thats it really. Social/team slayer and team doubles/multiteam takes less than 30 seconds to find for me atleast. Lonewolves and rumble pit and social big team take around 1 to 3 minutes to find a game. It hasn't died yet plenty of time yet it's still like 29000 people after halo 4 released today. You guys played halo 2 matchmaking 2009/2010 it was dead as hell. Barely holded 2000 people. It was like everybody knew everybody in the population those days...

I know the counter had been broken for some time, and I doubt 343 has taken the time to fix it.
Don't know the exact amount needed. It has been in the top 20 since launch although it's been falling and fell to 20 a couple weeks ago.
Posted by: Mike Huntt Halo 3 > Halo 4. It's just not the same when bungie hasn't made it.
Honestly after the Reach anomaly I'm glad Bungie is gone. I don't necessarily think Halo needed to be continued, but in this case I'm glad it wasn't Bungie who made it.

The population only updates once or twice a day, the numbers are still accurate the times aren't.
-
Halo 3 > Halo 4. It's just not the same when bungie hasn't made it.

I played halo 3 right before halo 4 was released and got to relive some epic games. BTB and social slayer were both pretty full. The mayhem was really cool. I hope the population for the game continues to survive post Halo 4 now.
-
Posted by: KaneXX12
It only shows random numbers now. The counter is bust.
-
Posted by: Killingfrenzy11
No, it still updates. The first time I came on in a while, the population was 18662. After a week, it changed to the 19000 something. After Hurricane Sandy and 343's system maintenance on the Halo servers, it was only 462. Then, as I said before, it was up in the 29000's again. [Edited on 11.05.2012 2:12 PM PST]
Posted by: killingfrenzy11
Yes. It's the only playlist I play. Hardly ever have trouble finding a game although, I probably will from here on in.
Posted by: Mythical Wolf
Posted by: killingfrenzy11
You missed out Rumble Pit. It's always alive.
Is it? I shall remember that in future. I didn't mind playing FFA every now and again.
Posted by: BiohazardX
Posted by: OMG Im Dan Halo 4 is gonna kill Halo 3. Let's be honest. It's had a great run. Been in the top 20 since launch for xbl most active games. It's been slipping recently and when Halo 4 launches I expect most of the playlists to become unbearable to find games. :(
I sure hope you're wrong xD Not to be rude honestly. I'm legitimately afraid for Halo 4 though and the way I see it, I'm going to play it get sick of it and go back to 3 like I did with reach.
Agreed.
