How does time work in the Halo universe?

Do they have a new set of time? Or does every one go off the earth based time? That doesn't seem like it would make sense for other planets....

  • I think each colony has it's own time, and Earth time is probably used for official business and what not.

  • If you notice in the novels, at the beginning of every chapter they specify the date and time of the military calendar. I'm assuming the military calendar is similar to zulu (Greenwich Mean Time) time used in the military today. Also, local time is used in some cases. In the sniper mission on reach, you can see that its 2600 hours or so, suggesting that a day on reach is at least 2 hours longer than one on earth. [Edited on 10.19.2012 9:21 AM PDT]

  • Yeah, most people will follow the standard time that their families have used for generations. But they would have to adapt on other planets as others have said.

  • The follow the Gregorian calendar as far as I'm aware, but they obviously have to adjust the time settings on different planets such as Reach.

  • The UNSC has time standardized as Earth's time, date, month , year, etc. It is probably like this for most of Humanity, but it may be adjusted for some colonies.
