A trend in all the main forums is that original threads tend to get buried under constant reposts asking the same questions over and over again. Do you think something should be done about this? Should reposted threads be locked, or are they a sign that the community just has its mind on the same issues and wants to keep bringing them up for discussion?

This has been an issue since the dawn of Internet Forums. Honestly, The world will never know.

A better question without a TL;DR paragraph. What CAN be done? Absolutely nothing.
Posted by: True Underdog You mean I don't HAVE to reply to repeat topics to tell the OP that the thread has been done before and belittle them? How else can I teach them a lesson? Are you a wizard?
You've been doing it wrong this whole time, bb.
Posted by: Grimaldus
Posted by: Make117 Pretty much everything is a repost.

^This. It's pretty rare to see a truly original topic. Ignore the threads you don't want to post in, post in the ones you do. That's how a forum works, and if everybody follows that mantra, the best threads will rise to the top and the worst ones will fall to the latter pages.

Nothing. Many users might be new and not have discussed a topic before, so it isn't a repost to them. Even if you have seen the topic before, what's wrong with discussing a topic more than once? It's like watching a movie twice. You might get something new out of it that wasn't noticed before. People might carry the conversation in a new direction; new points could be made. Why do you think it's such an issue?

I don't think reposts are a problem. People post something because they want to talk about it, and if other people want to talk about the topic then they will reply and the thread will stay active. If threads are reposted then that means that more people want to talk about the subject. Not a huge problem.

Unless a thread has been reposted under a week or so, I don't have an issue with it. Besides, new conversations and ideas can be created through a reposted topic. [Edited on 10.10.2012 7:26 AM PDT]

ironically this thread falls into one of those "constant reposts". There will always be topics repeated as time goes on, but they will change views and perspectives over time.
