Rain is no stranger to gaming. It is used effectively in games like Splinter Cell, Heavy Rain (lol), and many others... However, it serves nothing more than an environment feature for us to admire. For now...
Can a game create something as simple as rain and make it something more? Even if it is only for a brief moment? Well, in Metro Last Light; they seem to try that theory out a little bit at a key moment. It serves as a strange addition to a world ravaged and decayed.
You will see what I mean in the video below.

When used well, atmosphere can evoke all kinds of thoughts and emotions.
Posted by: darthnazgul Halo 3 ODST, despite it's lack of actual rain, managed to use the atmosphere it creates to great effect. Uncharted 2 also used it well. I'm trying to think of more games that use rain well but I can't think of much. Shame, it can be used very well.
There's rain in ODST, it's just light rain. I really wish that they would have made it rain harder and be more obvious though
Posted by: Ushan It's an atmospheric that generally implies sadness, seriousness, or somberness. I don't think that developers should rely on it solely to create those feelings, you need the music as well, but I do believe that it can be an effective way to alter the player's mood.
Also you would need very fleshed out characters that you feel a connection with as well a great sound. Not something that gets lost with a foot step. Something that feels like it is surrounding you.

It was just six inches of rainwater and it drove the plot forward like it was the real killer.
The real force of nature was the -blam!- clown.
Lol, first time I saw it I screamed SHOOT IT!!

Minecraft rain depresses me. Does that count?

Does Rain bring new feelings in real life?

RE6 review?

Yes. ODST was greatly lessened because it had no real rain.
