What gives you meaning in life?
Why do you continue along this road, when you know what ever you do it ends in death?
This may seem a dark topic, but I always find it interesing trying to understand why people continue to live. Often I hear people say 'it sure beats the other option' and while I personally agree, I don't see in one sense how you can know.
Disclaimer:
Please people, if you find that you don't have any meaning, please go looking for some rather than choosing to kill youself. The point of this thread is to give people a search for purpose rather than to make them despair.
So Flood, what gives you meaning?
What gives you the will to live?
What are your goals in life and why?
-
Why not?
-
I live TO CRUSH MY ENEMIES TO SEE THEM DRIVEN BEORE ME AND TO HEAR THE LAMENTATIONS OF THEIR WOMEN
-
You only live once. Why waste it?
-
Because I like having stuff to do.
-
You posted this on a wonderful day. Truly... No, nothing keeps me going other than air, food, and water. I've got nothing going for me and my views on life as a whole are less than extraordinary. Like, I'm not going to attempt suicide again anytime soon, it was just a silly waste of my time, but at the same time if I were to take a misstep and end up in the road with a car careening towards me, I don't think I'd care very much.
-
Cause I have a long and wonderful life to live with my girlfriend.
-
To see where the future takes me to of course!
-
I simply wish to share love with another person before I pass on. Otherwise, dying to me is just another part of the trip waiting to happen.
-
Because you only live once. Be sure to make the best of it.
-
This thread would not end well if I told you.
-
What else is there to do?
Posted by: BROWN HAWK I guess . . . because I don't want to die, and I want to do things in life. I have dreams and what-not, y'know, that gives me something to pursue.
I don't have a reason to live, but I don't see a reason to die either. Like no matter what I do I will end up dead so I figure I'll just stay alive and see what happens. [Edited on 09.30.2012 5:27 PM PDT]

Because I don't know what will happen after death, and if it is what I expect it to be, living is more preferable than nothing.
-
Because, some people's misfortune just makes my day.
-
Because death means that I can't make any money.
-
Just going with the flow, man.
-
Posted by: TommyPiplup No particular reason. It's probably less boring then being dead.
Yeah, slightly.
-
This entire concept of this topic is depressing. I live to live?
-
It's human instinct, and I enjoy my life.
-
Why not?
-
I can't die until I rule the world!
-
I don't see any reason why I shouldn't keep living. I exist, and I'm going to make the best of it for as long as I do. [Edited on 09.30.2012 4:59 PM PDT]

It's very corny but Love.
Posted by: JFKES No it wouldn't. It would just result in you dying. Let me repeat myself. Why continue to feed your existance?
Because that's the default way of existence. The fact that you're asking why we continue living just solidifies my argument. If living wasn't the default state of the mind then you wouldn't have to ask the question. You're making the mistake of thinking that we chose between death and life in the past. In reality, we exist solely through life and are given many choice. Death is one of them, one for which I've had no reason to consider. You're making this a false dichotomy between life and death, life is how we are by default, death is choice. I need a reason to chose death, I don't need any to stay alive.

Life really doesn't have meaning. Everything we do will one day cease to exist, and all of our labors will have proven to be for nothing. But as animals, we are hardwired with the desire to continue living. Well, most of us.
