I need help, as I literally know nothing about them.
My bose companion 2s broke, and I need a new pair.
I don't have an amp or anything. If I get a pair of "bookshelf speakers", will they work with my computer and iphone right out of the box, or do I have to buy an amp to go with them?
Same thing with "center station" speakers. I don't want to have to buy an amp or any extra electronics. I simply want speakers that I can plug in, plug into my computer, and have them work. Will either of these come ready to go, or do I have to buy a strictly computer speaker?
Posted by: A 3 Legged Goat What is your budget? Most bookshelf speakers would indeed require an amp because they'd be configured for entertainment centers consisting of 2-6 or more speakers. There would be no way for you to connect them to your computer unless the speakers themselves featured auxiliary ports. Then you could hook them up to your computer or iphone's 3.5mm jack with a stereo aux cable. Some speakers have connections for headphones and mics on the actual box as opposed to patching through an amp or the computer itself. My speakers. They're great quality and I can take the aux cable out of my PC jack anytime if I want to play an mp3 player. If you don't want to purchase an amp you should stick to a pair of stereo computer speakers. Jacob also brings up a good point. If portability is an issue then a center station or travelling speaker would be ideal. Though what you gain in mobility you lose in quality.

Depends on the brand you get, and more specifically, the wiring and electronics within. Only problem is you'd never be able to make them portable.

You only need amps for the high end expensive speakers. Cheap ones would just plug straight into the computers/phones 3.5mm jack

I would love to help you as I know a lot about this subject. However your name is Donovan McNabb and I hate the Eagles. Cowboys >

I would get strictly computer speakers just to be safe; but I dont know much about it.
