When playing on single player y is'nt there any animals?

Since halo being an artificail life world wouldn't you think you would see some animals on halo like birds, fish, repitles etc. It does'nt make sence but thinking about the forerunners that lived on halo for thousands of years how would they live on halo just eat grass, there had to be atleast some kind of animal lifeform to feed off of. • ahem ''''I have never seen any birds by the way. Post if you I'm wrong.'''' well, if you go to a certain area on the Silent Cartographer, you can see birds. I had heard of this before and decded to check it out. and lo and behold, BIRDS!!!, well, they were more like '' blurry blobs gliding above the water'' ,but hey, they looked and sounded like birds. Oh, and did you know that if you throw 4 grenades down the shaft in the cartographer, a horde of banshees will attack you?

 • Here we gooo! COMMEN SENSE! 1. Waist of time to design animals... 2. May cause lag, in which Bungie obviously is trying to make the game suit for many.. 3. Animals are just pointless to have because they are mostly ignored in which they know players like to get destracted during campaign and play around with dead bodies, objects, and blah blah if they wanted to... hehe But lets get it straight, players are expected to play serious when neccessary, not play with the animals! Although a wild enviroment of danger to be avoided while fighting covenant.. Is quite a table-turner in aspects of this game. So yeah, it is a good idea to create wild life in which it could be advantage or disadvantage. EXAMPLE: A lion attacked a very skilled elite that is chasing after you in the jungle; your escape or diversion! [Edited on 5/7/2004 5:30:57 PM]

 • Animal sounds make if feel more realistic. It's a game. maybe all the animals pick up all those active cammo triangles lying around! LOL. Also as Leeboy said, Halo was used. Everything would be destroyed right? cept the cocroaches! Where did you see the birds? maybe it was just a grunt out for a little hang gliding! note* this post not to be taken seriously. Thank you!

 • Halo was designed to destroy all organic life as we know it. Mabey it did a long time ago. The Flood must has to be some sort of virus then that they cant destroy. So mabey thats why there is only plants, moving creatures haven't evolved yet. And the closer you are to the blast radius the less likly you are to have life until someone inhabits it our it re evolves creatures. And when moving creatures come the flood will just take them over. Thus it would make no sense to have animals because then the flood wouldn't make sense. I have never seen any birds by the way. Post if you I'm wrong.

 • Umm i'm pretty sure the forerunners didn't live on halo. they just created it for the flood. Right? and even if they lived on it, they could have brought their own food. or maybe they were a vegetarian species. :)

 • They took out animals because the flood didnt have such a big impact on people when they were revealed. (Read the anchient halo article for more info)

 • They originally did have animals complete with coloured skin and player interaction along with a herd mentality, but it was too memory intensive for the xbox, so they got scrapped. But on a lighter note, earth has animals and with the new bump mapping there is a lot less stress on the memory. So cross your fingers, or the stubby remnants of them left from hours & hours of Halo.

 • actually there are birds (can you hear them???) and insects on some levels, and, in a certan place on the Silent Cartographer, you can see birds. Besides, wouldnt the animal life run away when a huge armoured figure approaches (thats you, silly). do the Flood count as animals? BESIDES, who says that the forerunners needed to eat?? no-one . maybe they were robots. or maybe they were so advanced that they dont need food. HEY!!! and who said that the forerunners lived on HALO??? all that we know is that they built it

 • After reading this, my initial impression was that you took the English language, ran it through an industrial grinder and then stuck it to a page like glitter. There were going to be animals in Halo, but I don't know why they took them out. However, it could be part of the story - the Forerunner could have taken them from Halo when they left.
