FAQ for Common Issues

FAQ: Help with Common Issues Pertaining to Halo: Combat Evolved for PC and Halo: Custom Edition for PC My former Bungie.net account name was Agemenmon matt. I have since created a new account and am no longer using the Agemenmon matt profile. I had posted this thread under Agemenmon matt a while ago and it had been kindly pinned by a moderator. For some reason or another that thread was unpinned. Now I am reposting this thread with my new account. I am hoping that it will once again be pinned. Help with Common Issues Pertaining to Halo: Combat Evolved for PC Updating Halo: Combat Evolved Issue: You cannot install the latest patch because you do not have administrator privileges. Note: Also applies to updating Halo: Custom Edition. Resolution: Right click on the Halo: Combat Evolved shortcut and select run as administrator. Problems Contacting the Gamespy Master Server Issue: You get a message saying, Cannot Contact Gamespy Master Server every time you attempt to play multiplayer. Resolution: First make sure you allow Halo: Combat Evolved through the Windows Firewall. If you are using a wireless router, cable modem, or DSL modem you probably have to forward ports. If for some reason after forwarding the correct ports for Halo you continue to have problems, it also might be helpful if you disable the firewall of your modem or router. The default ports for Halo: Combat Evolved are: 80 (TCP) 2302 (UDP) 2303 (UDP) I suggest you follow the instructions to port-forward Halo: Combat Evolved on your network at: http://portforward.com Note: More at Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server under the subsection: Forwarding Ports Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server Downloading and Installing Halo: Dedicated Server Issue: You want to create a dedicated server but you don't know where to get it. Note: The following steps are only relevant to Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server and not Halo: Custom Edition Dedicated Server. Resolution: 1) Download Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server v1.02. Download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=76f0b376-b0f9-4f93-8f22-55096558bc2c 2) Install Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server. 3) After installation download the latest haloded.exe patch v1.09 here: http://www.bungie.net/images/games/halopc/patch/haloded.exe 4) Go to the Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server directory. The default directory should look something like this: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Server. 5) Cut and paste the haloded.exe v1.09 update into the Halo server directory. Allow the replacement of v1.02 with v1.09. Forwarding Ports Issue: You can see your dedicated server on the Gamespy Server List but neither you nor anyone else can join it. Note: The following steps explain how to forward ports for Halo: Combat Evolved on a network (forwarding the ports will also allow Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server access on a network). Note: Forwarding the correct ports for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo: Combat Evolved Dedicated Server will also allow Halo: Custom Edition and Halo: Custom Edition Dedicated Server access on a network. Resolution: 1) You need to make sure that you allow Halo: Combat Evolved and your dedicated server through the Windows Firewall. 2) Go here: http://portforward.com and select your router/DSL modem/cable modem. Then select the program you want to forward ports for (it is in alphabetical order). Select Halo. After selecting Halo follow the instructions that explain how to forward ports for Halo. 3) Once you forward the ports correctly you can make sure your ports are indeed open using a nifty free program Portforward.com provides called the Port Checker. You can download the Port Checker here: http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm Help with Common Issues Pertaining to Halo: Custom Edition for PC Where to get Halo: Custom Edition Issue: You want to download Halo: Custom Edition but you don't know where to get it. Resolution: You can download Halo: Custom Edition from Halomaps.org. Halomaps.org home page: http://www.halomaps.org Halo: Custom Edition download page: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=410 Where to get the Halo: Editing Kit (HEK) Issue: You want to download the Halo: Editing Kit, but you don't know where to download it from. Download it here: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?fid=411 Playing Custom Maps Issue: You can't figure out how to play the Halo: Custom Edition maps you download. Resolution: In order to play the maps you download you must put the maps into the Halo: Custom Edition maps folder. The directory might look like this: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo Custom Edition\maps Playing Single Player Maps Issue: The single player maps you download do not appear in the Halo: Custom Edition map display. Resolution: You need to enable the console in Halo: Custom Edition. Once you enable the console you can then use it in Custom Edition to start a single player map. Tutorial that explains how to enable the console in Halo: Custom Edition: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?nid=319 Tutorial that explains how to play single player maps in Halo: Custom Edition: http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?nid=386 Last Updated: 1/9/2011 [Edited on 01.15.2011 8:32 AM PST]
