WILL ALIENWARE MAKE HALO PC RUN @ 30FPS WITH NO SLOWDOWN?

I brought halopc awhile back and my poor 1.6ghz geforce 2 384 ram made this game perform terribly. Has there been updates to combat these poor frame rates or do I need a super computer to run halopc. I would say on average most people have a 2.6ghz geforce 3/4 and 512 ram, and Ive heard rumers it still doesn't run correctly. I also heard that even ALIENWARE finds it hard to run this game. Does anyone else notice these FRAME RATE ISSUES? I can you bet you to my last dollar that this is the primary reason for everybody's LAG PROBLEMS. BUNGIE? will a 3.4 ghz athlon 64x Radeon 9800 pro 256 meg ram 1024 meg main ram be able to run halopc with absolutely no slowdown ever? The mac version runs like a dream on g5 why did the pc version get screwed? FEEDBACK PLEASE!

 • Look Peabnuts123, I you like your 600mhz 16mb geforce 2 but the reason I started this post was primarily for halopc performance, please don't kid yourself and tell your 600mhz pc Will run halo fine, because it doesn't. Actually the thread is changing as it's going, from halopc performance to all out pc performance, we halo players want the absolute best and your pc doesn't give that, sorry.

 • BUILD.....YOUR.....OWN.....COMPUTER Alienware, Dell, Ibm ALL of them THEY ARE ALL RIPING YOU OFF For half the price you can build a computer MUCH more powerfull.... Damn computer education should be forced for everyone....... Oh and BTW Primo - Dont buy a Radeon 256 mb ......They offer nothing more than 128mb .... not even half a fps of a difference and 128MB sometime even beat the 256mb version... Secondo - There is NO Athlon 64x 3.4ghz The only existing model are : Athlon 64 3400 (2.4 ghz) and the Athlon fx-53 who are clocked at 2.4ghz. THOSE TWO ARE THE HIGHEST CLOCKED AMD. But dont fool yourself.....More mhz dont mean more speed..... A fx-53 beat a p4 2.4ghz HAND DOWN WITH HIS LEG CUT. [Edited on 4/23/2004 3:32:36 PM]

 • THE BEST VIDEO CARD PERIOD FOR ANY GAMING IS THE NVIDIA 6800 ULTRA. IT SPANKED THE RADEON 9800XT BY %100 in all tests, including HALO on maximum resolution and all graphics thingy majigs turned on.

 • Whats the best graphics card on the market, primarily for halopc? So even if I have a super computer I will get some slow down because of the code? Why did halopc get programmed this way, and is there a release on a new upgrade. How many upgrades have there been and what were they for? I want to send an email to gearbox or Bungie about these problems, to see if they will fix them, halo deserves better than this. Who should I conctact and how do I contact them about the issue. I JUST WANT TO SEE HALOPC RUNNING SMOOTHLY @ 60 FPS...

 • I hope a code upgrade helps. I have to run at Pixel Shaders 1.1 and turn most of the settings off and I still have some issues. I have a geforce 5200. Saving up for the 9800 pro I think. Graphics card will make a HUGE difference in this game. try a 9800 pro before upgrading the PC.

 • Do you guys think that an upgrade in the code or patch will help this game run at smooth frame rates? So it's not just cpu and video driven, it depends on the coding also?

 • I think that would be wasting your money at this point. I bought a 9600 NP for my old 1.2Ghz P3 to replace an old 7500 and it did nothing for gaming performance. ATI and Nvidia are getting ready to screw everyone out of more money with PCI express cards. Might as well wait until the major hardware standards completely shift before getting a new PC or hardware. If MS and Bungie would quit "testing" the 1.05 patch, it may do you some good. I can't understand what the holdup is. Whats with all the NDAs and secrecy!? Why don't they just tell everyone whats going on!? I don't think they beta test Windows releases this long! Anyway I won't turn this into a "where the heck is my HEK!" thread. Just hold off a while.

 • The CPU speed mainly helps your game deal with the physics engine (which kinda blows with Halo PC). Also, it has been proven that all PC's (including the almighty AMD 64FX) will have some period of lag running Halo because of the code. But if you are running a AMD 64FX-53 with a Nvidia 6800 Ultra, 3 gigs a ram, and whatever else, you can be pretty sure lag will be minimal, mabye even none existant (same to you 3.4ghz PIV EE edition peoples).

 • Money man, I have set it to no sync and I know that that is the smoothest frame rate, it looks like 60 frames per second to me. But with no sync set, my computer experiences serious ups and downs in the fram rate world. I apprieciate that 30 frps isn't good on pc but the xbox was locked at 30 frames and had ocassional frame rate issues. For some reason 30 fps looked worse on the pc? Don't know why? Money man? or other knowledgable persons, What does it take to get halopc in no sync 800 x 600 smooth as a babies arse? And I know ALIENWARE is over priced I just used ALIENWARE as a reference of power, not the brandname itself. ONE OTHER THING DOES ATHLON 64 X CHIPSET HELP WITH HALOPC FRAME RATES?

 • Here are my computer specs: AMD XP 2400+ 2.0ghz 376mb DDR RAM VisionTek Xstasy/Radeon 9200 SE at 128mb Online, Halo runs fine. On single player, however, I notice the game slowing down quite a bit, especially in big battles with bullets, plasma, needlers, and grenades going everywhere. I am thinking of getting a Geforce FX 5600 XT at either 128mb or 256mb. So, the online is fine, but the SP is kinda slow. But its all good...I've beaten the Halo Campaign dozens of times on the Xbox version, and according to Bungie, there are NO differences in the SP aspect of the game.

 • Don't buy an Alienware. You end up spending an extra $1000 on the case and name. You'd be better off just writing down the specs for their hardware and buying the parts yourself. If you're squeamish about putting the thing together yourself, I'd suggest taking it to a local computer shop. That way, if there are any problems you can simply drive your machine back to them to get fixed.

 • While Halo PC is somewhat processor dependent, the Video card will make a huge difference. Don't get me wrong CPU speed matters, but just not as much. Also, 30 FPS is not very good for a PC game. Check your framerate setting on the video settings in the game. This should be set to "NO VSYNC", this will give you the highest FPS. Here is a good perfromace tweaking post from the Gearbox forums also: http://www.gearboxsoftware.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=technical&Number=42279&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1 Hope this helps, -MoneyMan

 • Thanks money man, do you know what I mean with the frame rates on this game? Is halopc graphics dependant or cpu dependant? From your response it seems graphics, is that true? Do peopes pc speeds effect online speeds? Thanks..

 •
Posted by: vice but there is still warping since Gearbox has no clue how to write network code.
You know nothing about server side network code. Back to the topic. You may not need to buy a whole new PC, just a video card. You have no chance of running Halo PC well with a GeForce 2 (or GeForce 3 & 4). If you want to use PS 2.0 in SP I wouldn't run on anything less than an ATI 9800 Pro or Nvidia 5900 Ultra. You should be able to get either one of those for around $200, which is alot cheaper than buying a new PC. Also, get the 128mb version, 256mb is overkill. -MoneyMan
