Wishlist for B.net features?

I have been trying to think of a new topic for this forum... So I decided to settle on an old one. Anyways, I know there are many people here who aren't particularly happy with the state of the forums. If you are one of those people,. what do you think might change the forums for the better?

  • Let Bungie have their self moderation and keep the ninjas to the shadows, the former I personally pushed for. Just put the forum back to something more traditional. I've gotten use to how things are now, but I still wish for something more traditional.

  • Somethings I have been thinking about for some time now: -Make the Report list things that we can ACTUALLY report on. Most of the report options give us a very vague directions on what they are for. Offensive Content should be clear enough, but I'd like to suggest that there be a couple additional options for other types of posting that has been happening quite often lately. ** ADVERTISING I don't know where that falls into the CoC / ToS anymore, but it seems as though these Vashkarian (whatever that means) posters need to be eliminated on site. (I'd add Youtube channel wannabes to this, but I doubt that would get much traction) Is this 'Illegal Activity or more a spam issue. There doesn't seem to be a spam buffer anymore seeing how the forums are clogged with reposts, repeats, and bumps, but I do greatly miss the B.old criteria for such things. **Change Disrespect/Threats, Harassment/Impersonation to be simply be Harassment. Disrespect is too subjective and 'they hurt my feelings-ish'. Threats are harassment. Impersonation means NOTHING the way the site is set up today. ANYBODY can make a new account with the same name and more than likely the same avatar as an original member. Essentially you enabled this. Making a report feature to do something about it is actually redundant. It's the site's fault for creating the ability for it to happen. Is posting anti homosexual and racial references a ban or warning material anymore? If so, nothing much seems to be done about it anymore for there are an overwhelming amount of them made hourly. I am personally rather sick of seeing it ALL THE TIME. (And no I'm not, thanks for asking) My main focus on this is that there are a lot of new people coming to the site these days. They see the way others are treating people and think it's ok to join in, as well as be as vulgar as they wish. I have encountered several new people who are very obnoxious and with no regard for just common decency or decorum (subjective, yes I know). Help make the site less vulgar, less hostile to begin with and you'll likely see decrease in intolerant behavior and new people thinking that this is a free for all community. If nothing is done, you're enabling and breeding a new batch of B.net that I don't think I will remain a part of. That's not a threat nor intended as one, but just a simple summation that I do not wish to be part of the growing toxicity of this site.

In their place we have a pseudo-interactive map of the tower, which is irrelevant with the diminutive size of the staging area and sheer pointlessness of 72% of the entities represented within, as well as what soars to be a half-baked attempt to inject 500cc's of lore into the launch of the new IP. »If the web team wants this site to be nothing more than a self-helpless center, then they need to outright say it so we stop wasting our time. If they want the community to largely run and organize ourselves, then they need to provide the tools to do so: titles linked to community-reinforced thread activity, chapter tools, and stickies. You can't develop a community when there's nothing for the community to grow into.

        • Titles. It would allow new members to see this community has been around for a while, and that it's something to invest in.

          • As I've said before in another thread to Deej concerning improvements to the site:
Bungie's really pushing for the "self moderation" and "invisible moderation" system, which I think many users will agree it just plain does not work... Or at least not preferred would be a better way to describe it. I will admit that in some cases self moderation and invisible moderation can work, but I think users, at least the old ones, want to see moderation at work. They want to know that problems are being solved on the forums instead of just accepting Bungie's word that moderating is being done. It gives old users a sense that Bungie has control over the forums still and it's not the Wild West. Me personally, I like seeing locked threads, who's been banned and for what. It shows users (especially those who don't read the CoC) what is and isn't acceptable. On top of that, we need sticky threads, as others have stated. I believe Achronos said you guys stopped supporting them since nobody really used them, but they did help those who wanted to keep the forum organized. Also inform users how the forums work when they sign up and/or make a post/announcement about it. I know you guys are against strict moderation, but you need it. You cannot expect everyone to be kind and trustworthy on the website. You need to show them that poor behavior isn't tolerated - especially those who attack others. As stated earlier you need to show people that you have control over your own website and people can't to whatever they want where ever they want. I know you don't want to drive off new users, but you've got to cull out the people who clearly don't want to be here and cooperate with the larger community and the rules, frankly they're toxic to the community and give new and old users a bad name.
