40 Hard Mode Vault of Glass Clears - Still No Vex
Dear Bungie,
I am growing increasingly doubtful I will ever receive the Vex Mythoclast. I have cleared the Vault of Glass and killed Atheon 40 times. Last night was my 40th clear...
I have been running a group over at the NeoGaf Destiny OT threads called #ForeverNoVex and we do as many runs as people need for their multiple characters every Saturday. At least one player gets it doing these runs. Never has it been me.
I just do not understand how the RNG system for this item is so unfair. I play with people who have only done the VoG a few times and got it, others who have received their 5th and 6th Vex. It is really disheartening that these other players get so many and they just shard the extras while I am doing all I can on a weekly basis with no result.
I just don't get it. How many times do I need to do this? I have 3 characters, one of each class, all now at 31 with my Titan 12 radiant shards away from 32. I have put in almost a full month of in game time in this game as well. I have 19/24 exotic weapons in the game and almost every exotic armour piece for each class.
Why the Vex is so difficult to acquire compared to everything else is perplexing.
Is there a secret I am missing? Do you need to be the person who deals the last DPS on Atheon? What is the key?
Any comment or advice would be helpful. I am starting to lose hope but I am happy that I have helped others get one.

Definitely feel you pain, and am similarly perplexed by the "RNG" in Destiny. Though, I'm fairly certain it's not random. I have a educated theory that the game assigns accounts with different loot profiles. What this means is that, although you could get every weapon if you played for long enough, certain weapons have a very low probability of dropping vs others. Jellyhorn, for example, is a weapon that will only ever *likely" be granted to some players. This doesn't mean you can't get it if you don't have it, only that you have a very low probability compared to someone with the "Ghorn loot tag". This is why you meet people with 3 Ghorns and some people (and likely never will) see it. Same goes for the Vex, and probably most of the weapons in the game. I have received no less than 7 Vision of Confluence from the raid, and have never even got the epilogue to drop. There are folks that have got the Vex 7 times. That is not "random" but clearly some sort profiling system is at work (and it's broken). That being said, keep hitting that hard mode and maybe one day you'll get truly lucky. I don't have anywhere near 40 completions, but I'm on that same quest for that trophy gun.

2 RepliesRegardless of your 40 clears, not even half of those would've actually given you a roll in the loot table since you can only run it once a week and the game hasn't been out that long.

2 RepliesYeah but I bet you have almost all the other raid weapons. I've done it over a dozen times and still no primary. Makes me a liability on hard mode if I get teleported since I've been unlucky in general with getting good primaries. So basically look at what you have before complaining. The vex is one of the 3 weapons I've ever gotten from VoG (shotgun & sniper numerous times). Imo totally not worth the exotic slot other than cool points. Is it good in crucible, sure. But it sucks in PvE because you're always running out of ammo.

What is the key?[/quote] The key is not.. trying.. too hard I was like you, even deleting a char or two every week just because I couldn't wait an extra week just to not have it again, then I got sick of it and stopped trying. Just before the DLC dropped, I tried once and I finally got it.. Same thing for hunter boots, stopped playing for a while and when I came back, got them first try. Once again with the Husk of the pit.. Grinded for like 4 hours to get it. then once I have it, I start killing Blades for a bounty, not thinking at all about the gun, I get a second one right away which would have avoided all these hours of just resetting fist of crota. Also luck works differently for everyone, I still need gjally, hawkmoon and monte carlo and you might have all three of these weapons like my friend, but he needs hard light and thunderlord and I have those two.

I've only done the raid a handful of times in normal and hard. Have had the vex drop twice. I was not the first or last player to join - I was shooting him the first time with my VOC as a warlock - second time I was the only member dead with my hunter after being knocked off the platform. Both times were on the second run through the portals. I also was not the highest or lowest light level. Just appears to be really bad (or good) RNG. Have one friend that has 21 hard completions with no vex.

My experience: Two atheons defeated and I get the vex the raid helmet for my Hunter and 2 ships

Got it on my first ever hard run.

Notice that the best drops tend to fill to the last person that connected. One guy hopped in our raid at Atheon, never done a raid before, and died before first teleport. When we cleared, he got vex myth! There were a few players who were upset with that. It took me 27 clears to get.
