Why do Blue Rarity weapons look better than Legendaries?

There's a strange trend in Destiny where the blue rare weapons continuously look better than the Legendaries. This has never been more apparent than after the Dark Below update. A few notable examples before the patch being the "Deep Fix", "Eclypse VMX2", "Problem 78F" auto rifles, "Echo 33" Pulse Rifle .... "A Little Voice" and "Sir Isaac" Handcannons, "Prism Schism" Fusion Rifle, etc. etc. After the update, there's even more badass Rare weapons. "ALR96-40 Overkill" and its cousins, all with that badass red paint-job... hell, the "Stalker BNGL" scout rifle is jet black with a f***ing white tiger decal across the sides. It looks amazing. But all of the Legendaries this time around (barring the Hive-infused raid weapons) look like total shit. It's like whoever was in charge of putting the color palettes together was sitting around and just let their 9-year-old kid decide what was cool. I would imagine the exchange went something like: Project Lead: "Hey, Billy, what should I color all of these Crucible weapons?" Billy: "SPIDERMAN!!!!!!" Project Lead: "Eh, alright...hey, what about these Vanguard weapons?" Billy: "ICE CREAAAM!!!!" Project Lead: "Ice cream isn't a color. What kind of ice cream?" Billy: "SHERBEEEERT!!!!" Project Lead: "Okay, orange sherbert it is..."
