Making a Great Game Better; Feedback and Suggestions for Destiny

Hi there! Long time Bungie fan, first time poster on the Destiny Boards. I love playing this game, but my clan and I have certainly had some issues with the economy and leveling systems implemented so far. Below are some suggestions that we have come up with that I hope help the game moving forward in some way. I haven’t read through the forum, so I apologize if some of these ideas are not new. Without further ado, here are our suggestions broken down into their appropriate sections. Leveling: - The current level cap should be raised to 34. The 2 new levels would be acquired through Experience gained (bringing the base max to 22) and be open to all Destiny players (both DLC and non-DLC owners). These levels would require a substantial more experience than the previous levels (the 1st being the sum of levels 1-10, the 2nd being the sum of levels 1-20). This would allow and justify for the new DLC weapons and armor to coexist with older wares at vendors (DLC weapons and armor now needing the base level 22 to equip). This is beneficial as it gives all Destiny players the ability to compete with the new, higher difficulty dailies and weeklies (as well as maybe newer/more casual players a better chance in completing the Vault of Glass), and giving a more natural and enticing reason to ‘Continue their legend’ with the DLC, while still rewarding the paid DLC owners with access to the new level 22 DLC gear (and missions obviously) that’ll push them up to level 34. The Dark Below DLC missions would have to be re-leveled accordingly. Future level updates would be incorporated similarly. Legendary and Exotic Items: - The last string in Legendary experience trees currently uses 6 ascendant materials for each node. I think this should instead be changed to an increasing number: 1st node = 2 Ascendant, 2nd node = 4 Ascendant, 3rd node = 8 Ascendant. - How Exotics were updated with the latest update was…bad. As of now, I’ve stopped using the majority of my Exotics, simply because I know the experience will be wasted once they are upgraded to the updated damage/defense count. That’s terrible; no one should feel hindered like that. Instead, additional damage/defense nodes should be added for each update, with each update node string being broken up by Exotic Shard node ‘gates’ essentially (the last node of each update version). Also, Exotics should gain experience only from kills registered (not bounties or other bonuses outside of experience amplifiers). The experience levels will have to be rebalanced to accommodate this, and Exotics may appear extremely weak at first a couple of expansions down the road, but overall I feel it will be a more rewarding experience for the players that invested the time to get the best weapons and gear in the game. Currency, Upgradable Materials, and Player Vault: As it stands, the current system allows for a shared 25,000 Glimmer bank between all characters, Cruciple/Vanguard Marks that are locked to each character, and upgrade materials, consumables, and Strange Coin that can be traded between characters through the vault. I suggest instead that: - Upgrade Materials and currency like Planetary Materials, Shards/Energies, Strange Coin, and Mote of Light be in a shared bank between all characters, while Glimmer, Marks, Weapon Parts, and Unique Class Parts are locked to each Character, and lastly Consumables being tradable through the Vault. This would eliminate unnecessary trading in the Vault, while still requiring players to invest time and resources to their characters to get the items they need/want. - I would also make purchasable Planetary Materials from vendors more expensive (10 marks for 10 materials instead of 20), and instead have Glimmer related consumables also increase the chance of Planetary Material drops from the relevant enemies. - Daily Postmaster rewards should be raised to +2 to the random material or currency, OR have public events guarantee a drop and remove the postmaster daily reward completely. Vendors and Faction Reputation: - As I mentioned before, all pre and post DLC equipment should be available from their respective vendors, allowing for natural stat progression. - Crucible and Vanguard Reputation should be a constant regardless of Faction attire worn or unique missions (ie: Queen and Eris). This would reward players more frequently, and encourage faction loyalty as you could then potentially receive double the rewards. - Cryptarch: He is a bastard, but fair. Upgrade materials such as Ascendant material, should be added to his possible drops. The ability to purchase ‘found’ Class Armor from him would also be a welcome addition (I personally would like to purchase my starting Class Armor pieces). The following points are more wish list items than suggestions: - New Faction specific missions: I would love to see maybe a Free, short DLC expansion that allows for Faction bounties in existing areas that give more insight into the missions and lore of these fictional groups. More missions become unlocked the higher your reputation rank for that faction. - Loadouts: Functioning similarly to selecting Subclasses, the ability to select specialized weapon and gear loadouts for PVE, PVP, and Raid would be a welcome addition. - Ability to mail items to friends through postmaster. - Having a different color (like green) for friendly explosives and area effect items in PVP would make for less accidental deaths. - Gunsmith: Give the option to sell back unused weapon parts, class specific materials, and planetary materials to the Gunsmith for Glimmer (increments of 10 or 20 parts). Doing so would increase a new rep meter for the Gunsmith that allows for weapon care packages from the Postmaster, and, possibly in the future, access to new Legendary/Exotic weapon or ship bounties. - Guardian Outfitter: Ability to re-roll character gender and appearance for a steep fee. Weekly Rotation of Shader options. - Speaker: Option to buy or apply cosmetic options to Class Armor. For an example, something like a water-downed Jackolyte or Flight of Shadows enhancer would be a nice touch. - Shipwright: The ability to create and buy parts for your own ship such as cockpit, engine, thruster color, Shader, etc. Setup would be its own screen on the menu and function like the character screen. *UPDATE 1* - Clan Bounties: Large, joint bounties that entire clans take part in. Example: Kill 5,000 collective enemies among clan members. etc. New Emblems and Class Armor could be rewarded through this along with the usual experience/upgrade materials. This would naturally promote Clan play. - Top Player Rewards in PVP: Nothing major, Glimmer prizes or a higher chance of legendary/exotic drops. - Ability to highlight Vanguard/Crucible Marks and see the weekly collection (ie: "Quantity: X Weekly: X/100) - Grimore available in-game and Grimore rewards: Self explanatory, I enjoy the Companion App, but the ability to access the Grimore in-game would be nice. Also, some kind of reward for reaching certain milestones in the Grimoire count would be nice. - Grimore cards for Armor Exotics. - Exotic Armory: The ability to inspect someone's collection of collected Exotics would be great, and a neat way to show off the time players have invested. *UPDATE 2* - Faction Rep Ranks viewable from Inventory menu. - Ability to exchange Ascendant Materials with the Speaker (similar to how Radiant materials work with Eris). - A Recent Players list so you can group up with past players. - Add 'Ritual of Sacrifice' to level select (and dailies) after completion. - All Public Areas should have the possibility of Public Events (The Venus shores comes to mind). - Faster harvest for Planetary Materials. Time should be matched with unlocking Loot Chests. - "Found" ship blueprints stay with with Shipwright. - Story based weapons and gear become available from vendors after unlocked. - Strike playlists are in a set cycle to avoid repeat strikes. - Weekly Strikes and NightFall Strikes should be different each week to avoid player fatigue from repeat plays. If you have read this far, I appreciate your time and hope this finds its way to someone at Bungie for consideration. For other forum goers, If you like these ideas or have something you want to comment on or add, please feel free to comment or bump this post. I love playing Destiny with my friends and clan, and I want the experience to be as fun, fair, and rewarding as it can be. I hope my comments help us get that far. Take care.
