One thing I never understood about Halo 2...

Hopefully that embedding works, because I made it time specific... Oh yay, it doesn't. Let me amend that and direct you to the 3 minute mark...
If you will not hear the truth, then I will show it to you.
Anyone wanna fill me in on how the Gravemind actually intended to show Thel that Halo was a weapon? Perhaps that's irrelevant, given that he was ultimately convinced, but what convinced him? He prompted Spark to explain the rings' true nature, as though he knew and believed it himself.

 •
He prompted Spark to explain the rings' true nature, as though he knew and believed it himself.
No, he didn't truly know for sure yet. He was asking Guilty Spark to know for sure. And when he gets his answer, you can hear him choking back the tears (or the Sangheili equivalent) when he says, "Tartarus," which he quickly turns to anger, "the Prophets have betrayed us." As for the main question of the thread, I can't really say unfortunately. I think it might have to do with the Gravemind knowing the Great Schism going on, so it was going to shake up his faith. And then there's that part that where he has the flashback of what the Gravemind said. So I don't think it was "show you" in the literal sense, but more that, "Hey, if you won't believe me, you'll find out through circumstance." Hope that makes it make more sense.

 • The explanation from 2401 penitent tangent towards the prophet of regret is what did it. He effectively stated that halo is a weapon by saying it had twenty two trillion tests and one actual.

 • It could have been a realization based on his experience fighting the Flood and seeing the Gravemind in person. Probably not the case though. Sounds like a bit of an over site.
