I wrote this for my English 4 class What is SANIC? To further understand this question we must ask ourselves as a species: WHO is SANIC. The reasoning behind this is that SANIC boom is not a thing but in fact SANIC is a living entity. Humans do not yet posses the knowledge to be capable of fully understanding this phenomenon but we know this for sure. He is out there and he is watching over us. Ever since the first sighting of the illusive SANIC in 1991 people have been intrigued by this figure. He has been known to posses incredible speed and agility. People also believe SANIC is not the only entity of his type. There have been reports of another entity named NUCKLES. These sightings have not yet been confirmed by scientists but they are being researched at this very moment. There are many who revere SANIC as a god and worship him with full devotion. There are many who also depose SANIC claiming him to be nothing more than a really fast blue hedgehog with some pretty rad one-liners. But there is one thing everyone can agree on. SANIC is a hedgehog.

            • no u [spoiler]Usually whenever someone thinks of Germany during World War II, their tanks often come to mind. German tanks were famous (or perhaps, infamous) during World War II. But why is that? What shows us that German tanks were very important to Germany at that time? At the very base of all army's, there is men in control. Many men were involved in the German war effort. Of course with so many men involved, I can't go over them all, so I have chosen a one man very relevant to German tanks in WWII. That man is Heinz Guderian. According to Russia Besieged by Nicholas Bethel Guderian fought in World War I, and despised the death caused by trench warfare (Bethel 50). Interestingly, he didn't despise the fact that people were dying per say, he despised the way they were being killed. In response to this he said "Only movement brings victory" and from there his obsession with tanks grew. He constantly supported the development of tanks after this point, but it was not until 1939 in Poland when German tanks smashed opposition that tank development really took off in Germany (Bethel 50). Guderian was very eager to try his tanks out in combat when he was finally given the chance in 1939. He was given the nickname "Hurrying Heinz" after a few very fast tank operations, so fast in fact that everyone was surprised by his progress, even the German command (Bethel 57). He made the plan to have German tanks spearhead the assault on Russia, as Russian tanks outnumbered German ones, but they were obsolete (Bethel 58). His plan got them 10 miles from Moscow, where they were pushed back (Bethel 58). Guderian was the main force behind the advancement of German tank technology and his operations helped the Germans greatly. Guderian’s story shows us how and why tanks became important in the German military and also some background on various German operations. The most notable operation is likely operation Barbarossa, the German invasion of Russia, where tanks spearheaded the assault and were very successful (at first, anyways). In the end however, his obsession would not give the Germans victory despite being an incredibly important part of their army. The battle of Kursk shows us how important tanks were to the German war effort, despite it ending in German defeat. According to Kursk by Lloyd Clark by 1942 the German assault on Russia was starting to fall apart. Hitler kept on expanding the fighting front, weakening his army. Meanwhile the Russians were working non stop to push the Germans back and the German army's current fragility was an important part of the Russian battle plan (Clark 46). However the Germans kept marching forward despite being weakened further and further by Hitlers greediness and they captured the city of Kharkov in March 1943 (Clark 46). However they were unable to take Kursk, to the north of Kharkov which left a large bulge for the Russians surrounding the city (Clark 46). This bulge was a massive disadvantage for the Russians, and they were forced to use 9 armies to defend Kursk because of it (Clark 46). The Germans planned to use this to their advantage and hopefully go on the offensive again, Hitler considered the battle to be of "decisive importance." The Russians still had massive numbers which concerned Hitler and caused him to postpone the battle several times, his only hope was that the superior training and technology of German forces would be enough to overwhelm them (Clark 47). The attack would begin on July 5, 1943. 2,451 tanks were used in the attack (Clark 47). The plan was to weaken Russian forces at first and then start sending in tanks slowly, at least on one side of the field (Clark 47). In another area there was to be a full tank assault (Clark 47). German morale was high, soldiers in the field all expected success (Clark 49). Over the next four days it became clear that the Germans wouldn't reach Kursk in the desired timeline (they were supposed to reach Kursk 10 days after the start of the attack, for fear of the Soviets gaining a large advantage) due to the battle becoming a grind (Clark 49). Despite all their efforts the Russians were absorbing everything the Germans threw at them. The battle became an effort to simply erode Russian forces as opposed to its formerly offensive goals. The Russians won the battle and left a blow Germany would not recover from. So why is Kursk relevant to German tanks? It was a horrid defeat for the Germans, after all. It is important because it shows how important the Panzers were in German battle plans. Everything in Kursk centered on other forces weakening Russian forces so the Panzers could come in and destroy them. What made the Panzers so formidable was their technology. Technology may not seem incredibly relevant to determine how important German tanks were in the war effort, but clues from German tank technology can be very valuable to answer that question. In World War II there was several different types of tanks. This was no different for German tanks. According to World War II Insightful Essays light tanks were not very well used or effective due to their light armor, and served as a sort of placeholder prior to the development of more effective, heavier tanks. The most notable light category tank made by Germans was the Panzer II. It was ran by a crew of three, weighed ten tons, and had a coaxial machine gun as well as a twenty millimeter machine gun (WWII IE) . It saw most of its use in the invasions of Poland and France, where about 1000 Panzer IIs were involved (WWII IE). Despite becoming obsolete by 1941, the Panzer II was the basis for several other tanks (WWII IE). Medium tanks would be used throughout the war, the Panzer IV variant would become the main German tank during the war. The Panzer IV was ran by five men, weighed twenty five tons, and a 75 mm gun as well as a coaxial machine gun and an anti aircraft gun (WWII IE). The Panzer IV was the base of other tanks, and over 9000 Panzer IVs were produced (WWII IE). Heavy tanks were the very best German tanks produced.Their purpose was to function specifically to deal with other tanks, but they could also be used for other purposes. The strongest of these was the King Tiger tank, which had a crew of five, weighed 69 tons, and had an 88 mm gun used as both an anti tank and aircraft weapon (WWII IE). Significantly less heavy tanks were produced compared to medium tanks, due to the very large amount of resources necessary to make them. The final variant I will go over is the Tank Destroyer, and their name is self explanatory. Their only purpose was to destroy other tanks. Ironically though, they themselves were tanks. They were made with very strong guns to pierce tank armor, and strong frontal armor. According to Achtung Panzer the Jagdpanzer IV wasn't necessarily the most well used tank destroyer, but it was produced using the Panzer IV as a base. It had 100mm frontal armor a 75mm gun, a four man crew and weighed twenty five tons. About 1,977 Jagdpanzer IVs were produced (Achtung Panzer). The many variants of German tanks show us that tanks had a variety of possible uses which allowed them to be much more useful in the army, this also shows that tanks were being consistently developed and upgraded, which would not have happened if they were not important. The equipment inside these tanks also shows us that the German government invested a great deal in tanks and therefore were worth a great deal to the German war effort. Everyone knows that the outcome of WWII ended in Germany's defeat. Even so, Germany was a formidable army at the time and they were so because of their tanks. Guderian shows us why and how tanks got such a crucial role in the German military. Looking at Kursk shows us that tanks were critically important in German operations. Finally Panzer (and even a few other variants) technology shows us that a great deal of resources and effort went into German tanks all the way to the end of the war. Despite their eventual failure WWII would not have played out anywhere near the same without the involvement of German tanks and that is worth taking note of. Works Cited: Bethell, Nicholas.
