Ign posted their review of TDB

Ign posted their review which I thought would be biased considering they got to show all the content first. Even with this TDB received a 6/10 for all the reasons you guys know. Here's the link Destiny: The Dark Below Review http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/12/18/destiny-the-dark-below-review? What do you guys think?

I have mixed feelings about the reviewers right now. There are many fair criticisms of Destiny, and many are correctly pointed out in these articles. On a game where feedback is supposed to matter, it is important that the media comes down on the side of the consumer and pushes back against poor decisions like the new raid economy. However, it seems that these same standards are never applied to other games, and thus Destiny is treated unfairly. I mean, look at Battlefield 4 - that malfunctioning abomination wasn't even fun when it was fixed, and it had about a quarter of the things to do that Destiny did, and that game got an 8.5. Also, it annoys me that these reviews rarely seem to produce an original thought. While they are generally formatted in a more professional manner, it looks to me like they're just combing through the forums and publishing the highlights of what most people seem to be saying. You can tell by the kind of things they choose to include in the discussion. Look at how much real estate in all of these articles is devoted to raid matchmaking (which is obviously not a good idea), story (a conceit, window dressing on the actual game), and a one week DLC nightfall strike, and the supposed 'lack of content'. Then look at the amount of real estate devoted to the gunplay, the environments, and the mechanics - the only things that really matter. Look at the number of hours that the typical player is putting into Destiny - it's considerably above the average for a $60 AAA game. It's inconsistent with the priorities that one would expect from someone who reviews games for a living. I want reviewers to have an opinion, but to also give it some context against other games on the market. The casual comparisons to MMOs and the logical fallacies about 'expansion' vs. 'dlc' are getting out of hand.

    • Why don't all you idiots who claim there is a story play a Ken Levine game. Now that's a story. You are all just fanboys.

          • Spot on. Big chance for them to pull a rabbit out of the hat and wow us. You'd think they woulda been motivated after the disappointment that was the original game and stepped it up a bit, but they didn't. Big missed opportunity and if this is the future of Destiny without some major overhauls to gameplay, content, story, they are gonna run Destiny into the ground within 6 months or so. Outstanding gunplay and fun to play, but if that's all it's got going for it, it will eventually get old. Already getting boring as F re-running the same recycled crap overandoverandoverandoverandover.

IGN rates CoD: AW a 9/10 but calls Destiny a rehash when it's the same thing as CoD?

            • I think its spot on. If u think the majority of gamers r just on the train then maybe u need to raise your own standards a bit. Ive been seeing games get worse and worse over the years. Asking for more money upfront and for "passes" which is basically the core content moast games used to have in the first damn place. A true expansion, is pretty much a new game using the old engine of the main title. If the consumer didnt put up with this garbage it wouldnt happen. So to sum up my point. Destiny is like the flappy birds of first person shooters.

              • i think the 6/10 is still a lot of courtesy from a gamers magazine for a established studio. or else it would have been 4/10, and yes, you can notice that the guy that wrote it was struggeling to even find enough to write about =)

                  • They gave the wrong score. Should have been 3/10 for the lack of content and the shitty decision with exotics and gear.

                    • Would have given it a 7/10 IF they didn't remove materials for marks and rep. I associate that day 1 feature removal with the TDB therefore I would have given it 3/10. Removing farming as an alternative option that did not impact/hurt PvP, strike and raid grinders 1 bit. Instead of 4 ways to grind forever for stuff in Destiny, they just killed 25% of how you can play the game. Who cares if someone prefers or loves 1/4 of the way to play or another one who loved all 4. It should be up to each player to choose. It's like the same stupid replies against OPTIONAL matchmaking for everything. If you 100% hate matchmaking for raids so what, it's called OPTIONAL because you are not forced to do it. Maybe it would suck but a lot of us would love to try and enjoy the challenge. The exact same optional way to access the default vendors. Unless you primarily grind in the Crucible, you will only be able to access 1/5 vendors. Bungie should allow players to enjoy Destiny the way they like to play. Keep endgame content exclusive the way they are. Add optional matchmaking to all. Put back farming as an optional way to grind. Finally, open access to all vendors for both marks. P.S. There is no such thing as PvP gear. It's standard legendary gear sold by Crucible vendors, same as Faction and Vanguard. Other than to FORCE YOU to grind one specific way to access all vendors, there is no other reason. Forcing the way one can grind in Destiny isn't a good strategy to keep as many different types of players as possible. I never want to hear any more complaints about "it's Crucible gear, waa, can't earn it unless, waa, you grind in the Crucible, waa." Helpful Hint: Grinding can be more enjoyable if you obtain huge amounts of varied weapons and armor with thousands of (PvE) perks and mods, the complaints would diminish drastically. PvP weapons and armor are needed with fixed mods and perks to keep the Crucible as fair as possible and allow SKILL, not 2-3 weapons, to be a PvP master. Take a look at other games that know how to do both. DC Universe Online is a great example of how to do PvE and PvP WITH crossover paths for ALL to enjoy. Add more options, content, variety to items and other stuff. Stop removing options and greatly increase grinding with minimal bonuses. Stop killing raid/IB/Queen weapons and armor with each new DLC. At least give them an automatic boost to a level in between last and next. If these items are fully maxed they get fully boosted to the new max. Nothing is worse than sinking tons of time and materials into raid gear or exotic just to see them become almost crap every 3 months. You think resetting some of them to grind again only to be crap in 3 months is fun? How about resetting them if maxed would have provided a free exotic shard and random shards or energy. Something for all the grinding we spent time on. Every move seems to be a BIG middle finger in our face instead of a BIG thumbs up for more enjoyment. I really want to like and play Destiny for a long time, just don't know how many more times I can take getting kicked in the groin after each patch/"enhancement" you make. Just my 2 cents.

                    • I would give it the same rating as they did, but still recommend that Destiny fans/players buy it. I was disappointed by the short amount of missions, but, contrary to what a lot of people say, I think its worth the $. I mean, Call of Duty charges $15 for a couple for maps, or X other games charges $15 for a 4 hour story mission, and with this DLC you get PVP maps, story missions, strike(s), new gear and a whole raid. So, its a disappointing not to get what could've been a better player experience, but its worth its price tag nonetheless.

                    • Pretty much spot on. If you dont raid its a 3/10. It should have an 0/10 if you have any respect for gaming. If this is the way dlc and expansions will look for future games i am ashamed of the gaming industry.

                        • Funny how he uses IGN as a credible source. Those guys have been shown to sell their review scores for cash and will post articles based on the "mood" of the reader so that they can maximize their hits. Meaning, if it means that riding the Destiny hate train will get them the most clicks, which turns into cash, then that's exactly what they will do. And it is what they have done.
