Bungie has the story all figured out.

I see what shit you're trying to pull bungie. Don't try to hide that "actually has a story" from me. I figure I got this all figured out. DISCLAIMER: THIS IS ALL A THEORY. By now we all realize destiny's story is nothing more than "shoot these guys because I said so." But I think bungie has it under control. We all know that destiny's original story was good but was cut for unknown reasons, until you look at the fact that the franchise will exist for 10 years at least. If you don't know the extent of it, destiny's old story involved a character named Crow. (Who's model is actually the queens brother now.) I'm going to keep this brief to prevent confusion. Basically you are a guardian, (Suprise) But you eventually learn from crow that the speaker and the traveler are actually bad guys and you need to be fighting them instead. (There is SO MUCH MORE detail in this, but I'm only giving the basics of it. You can go look up the details.) Now this sounds like a good story, right? Yes, but when you take in the fact that this is a 10 year franchise, a plot twist as big as that might not be a good idea for the first game in the series. It wouldn't leave a lot of room for development In the franchise. This seems to me that this is bungie's plan for the series, let the story and excitement build up over a long period of time and have it kaboom in an epic finale at the end. The old story will be in the franchise, but more developed and lengthened. I assume you all have heard the dreg Easter egg sort of thing that seems to have surfaced? No? Well, if you sneak up behind a dreg, chances are you will hear it exclaim in some weird alien/English blend, "it's the darkness!" (There are some YouTube videos on this.) Interesting, why would a dreg, an enemy to our light, be calling us the darkness? This bears some resemblance to the grunts (also a low tier enemy in its faction. Coincidence?) Yelling "its the demon!" when you encounter them In bungies halo games. Unless the dreg is on drugs, why would it be calling US the darkness? Maybe, the traveler IS a bad guy after all, and bungie is still sticking with that story? Another interesting peice of dialogue is your encounter with the Exo Stranger on Venus. She says, "a side should always be taken, even if it is the wrong side." Hearing this at first probably made you think that she is an agent of the darkness and will end up being an enemy later in the story. The INTERESTING part about this quote is that when she says the words "the wrong side" she looks directly at your guardian, suggesting you are being misled to fight on the wrong side. What I'm saying through all this is that bungie may be sticking to their old story after all, and gave Destiny a lackluster plot for a reason. When you take into consideration that this franchise will continue for a good 10 years, bungie has a lot of time to expand the plot from FPS-style "shoot bitches get guns" plot to an actual entertaining story that you want to know about and love for years to come. Bungie may have outsmarted us by lowering our expectations and then pulling out the big guns later with a franchise like we all know they can make. All I can say is, Bungie, I have full faith in you and will support your decisions for how to make great games. You know what you are doing and will pull through and make possibly the greatest franchise of all time. Destiny is addicting and fun, but you know how to make a story throughout a franchise like you did with halo. And think this will all end up being an amazing series. Thank you, and good luck. To all my fellow guardians out there, just sit back and chill while the master devs at bungie do what they do best. Trust that everything will be fantastic soon. Godspeed guardians. P.S. I'm thinking that the sequel to destiny will also have a one-word title rather than Destiny 2. Something like "Legend" or "Hero" doesn't seem out of the picture. ;)

  • I don't mind the theory of The Traveler being a enemy. I get why people think it might be true. I tend to think it might be half right. Maybe it is just the Speaker that is the true enemy and somehow has control of The Traveler. I also like to think that The Fallen and the Cabal aren't agents of The Darkness. I like to think that they have been fleeing The Darkness and set up shop in our solar system because it is one of the last few safe places from The Darkness. I mean why else would The Fallen be teamed up with The Queen? She is an Awoken. A spices that is an option for your Guardian. I mean if The Fallen were truly evil and work with the Awoken, wouldn't that mean the Awoken aren't worthy of the Traveler's Light?

  • I can't understand why people are so fascinated with the whole "traveler is the enemy" theory. That storyline would essentially be the plot line to the Tom Cruise movie Oblivion... (Plot twist, you're actually working for the bad guys!) Yeah, that is pretty lame. There is far more evidence to support the theory that we are the "good guys" than there is that we are "bad." Everything from the grimoire to express statements from Bungie (i.e., as to the actions of the traveler, how much it helped humanity, etc...). I mean, just look at the Hive as an example. Do they look like they're the "good guys"? No, they look like the archetypal "bad guys". Consider the following: 1. The Temple of Crota is littered with bones (human bones, probably). Thralls eat from these piles! Dark dungeons filled with bones and cannibalistic enemies are hardly indicative of "good guy status." 2. When you start the DB raid you are literally burdened by "the weight of darkness," and the only way to cleanse yourself of it is by standing in the light. (Come on, this one is pretty obvious.) 3. They try to profane a shard of the traveler (by "draining it of it's light.") Also, ghosts come from the traveler. Therefore, if the traveler is evil so is your ghost. Dinklebot is your companion throughout the game and a primary character. Yeah, non way he's going to turn out to be bad. What about the Vex? A race of hive minded machines hell bent on not only killing the people of Earth but also erasing them from time/existence all together. Every man, woman and child for the simple fact that they belong to said group (Genocide much?). Yes, truly these things are the paragons of good...

I was thinking about the Vex. When I was reading the Grimore cards about them I turned my eyes the Vex Precursors. They speculate that the Precursors are ancestors of the Vex we fight today, but what's interesting about them is their appearance. They appear as if they were forged in light. They are mostly white/silver with gold on them and have blue eyes instead of red. Also what we know about the vex is that they predate humanity by eons. Perhaps the traveler visited an ancient race and they built these machines similar as to how us humans build machines, to protect and fight wars and maybe eventually the machines went rouge and destroyed their race long after the traveler was gone. This would also give us some insight on how these aliens may have looked like because when humans build sentient machines we usually make them in our own image. Just my input on it. I could be wayyyyy off or very close.

Fascinating. Just yesterday I chanced upon a grimoire card which gave an overview of competing theories concerning the Traveler. At the very end, a view (considered heretical) is shared that the Binary Star Cult believes the Traveler initiated the Collapse to protect itself from the Darkness, thereby enlisting all Life as a proxy army. This agrees very well with your theory.

          • Maybe the traveler is bad. Maybe it ravaged the worlds of the fallen hive and cabal and then came to us bringing the golden age but all just as a sort of manipulation to get us to protect it when the fallen hive and cabal came after it. And then the vex are just a balance in the universe that are sent to extinguish dangerous threats such as the traveler.

          • I think they're going for a "The Traveler is neutral" story now. The Traveler goes from planet to planet making soldiers to fight it's enemy. The people of these planets think the Traveler is some great benevolent being. Until the Darkness shows up and when they start to lose the fight the Traveler abandons them to save itself and find another army. The Cabal, Hive, Fallen, and Vex are the previous races the Traveler used and now they're out for payback. I think the Traveler was going to leave Earth too but Rasputin damaged it to force it to stay and fight. That's why the damage to the Traveler is all on the bottom. If the enemies damaged him wouldn't the damage be on the top or side?

              • I don't understand this , why does everyone think all the enemies we vibe across are affiliated with the darkness, seriously only two enemies throughout the entire game are indicated to have at least some relationship with the darkness. The Fallen hasn't given us the slightest hint of being darkness related and neither has the cabal.

                • Just for the dreg dialogue situation. Just think about it. There's good and there's evil. Do the evil call themselves evil ? no they call themselves good and they call what are the "good guys" bad. So this could explain why they call us the darkness because to them we are evil even though to the greater good we are actually the better side. Idk just an idea to solve that problem or theory that you have

                      • I've thought all along we work for the bad guy. Look at the names of our enemies. Knights, that's a good guy title in its self. Wizards, that's a good guy term. Traveler sounds like something out of ghostbusters as the bad guy. He gave them knowledge. Well satan gave Eve knowledge when she ate of the forbidden fruit. We are hunters, Titans and warlocks. All bad guy job titles. It makes perfect sense to assume we work for the bad guy.
