Ok guys, so I'm sure many of you know about the latest way to cheese crota. Where the fireteam leader leaves at just the right moment and crota stays down in cock sucking position while a guardian flogs him with his sword. While many of you are annoyed that noobish people will be getting gear they haven't really earnt and the value of having them will decrease, I would like to point out an interesting fact. With previous cheeses players were manipulating the games mechanics and this is technically within bungies guidelines... But when you get the fireteam leader to leave this falls into a whole other category. "Modification or interruption of Destiny network traffic with intent to disrupt other players’ experiences or to gain advantage in the game"- To be exact. Which is against bungies policy and is a bannable offence. So my question is. For all the current people who have used said exploit to best crota, should they be banned? In my opinion they should be. Edit: There seems to be confusion how this is different to other cheeses and how this is an interruption of Destiny traffic. With aetheon and templar, throwing grenades at them would exploit their Ai and make them "retreat" thus making them fall of the edge. This can be achieved through normal means of gameplay. Now with the crota exploit when the leader quits destiny they are disconnected from destiny's servers unexpectedly. This in my opinion is equivalent to using a lag switch. Now for some reason when a leader leaves and the game assigns a new leader, if done at the right time will cause the status of Crota's to be forever crouched. This can not be achieved though normal means of gameplay. Due to the disruption to the network traffic caused by the leader which has lead to crota crouching this has created an advantage.

  • How do you prove it was intentional unless they make a video showing you how to do it?

    • There is going to be the rare instance that some fire team leader quit because RL happened and the results were his team of five foot lucky enough to cheese the encounter. There is also the rare case of this happening on the leader being booted to the log in screen, which is how we found out about this little bug. Of course everyone is going to deny cheesing and say "it was an accident" but we all know that's not true. I'm on the fence about this one. But honestly, I enjoy running the raid the right way, but it in no way effects me if other people cheese it. Shoot, half the people on here probably can't do it with the cheese anyway lol

    • It reminds me of those cheats on the Sega Genesis, where you would pull out one cartridge at a certain point and plug in another, then in some cases a third. I called total BS on some of those, but they actually worked... Who comes up with this stuff?

    • First, ive never done this. I'm on ps4, otherwise I probably would have... Second, due to destiny's known network problems this would be impossible to ban anyone due to random disconnects...

      • I haven't done this, but people shouldn't be banned for playing the way they want to. If people are somehow ruining the game for others, then sure; review them for a ban, but for something like this? No.

      • I say yes just because I left 3 groups because they all wanted to do it instead of go through it legit....but then I want to say no because I did it legit 3 times this week and got 2 shards twice...and a fusion rifle I already had....so it doesn't motivate me to try again

        • I don't think they should be. Imho, it's absolutely ridiculous how many bugs, glitches, and easily-discoverable exploits exist in Bungie's raids thus far - particularly considering how few encounters they've actually had to design and tune. It's almost like daring players to try and break the encounter...

        • I think that instead of a ban the research and remove all gear/shards/energy earned that way. And if they have used the shards or energy they get a negative balance.

        • The entire new raid is solo able up until crota. This is ridiculously insane. The 1st time I did it it was so hard now I get drops by myself they DEFF need to fix this. This game is so easy to exploit

If they're just playing the game in a way that gives them an advantage, no. However, if they are hacking their console and modifying the code to give them an advantage (ie. aimbot), then absolutely. Plus, in this specific case, what about the folks who were in a fireteam that decided to cheese the boss but they themselves individually didn't want to. How would you know who to ban and who not?

People are bringing up the argument that we shouldn't care what other people get because it doesn't effect you personally. This is a response I've written a hundered times, so I'll just repost one of the replies I wrote: People care because you'll have to play with these people that got gear not on their ability, but through cheating. So in the future, when you're trying to scramble a team together from the forums or LFG, you have a good chance of getting these people in your fireteam, and all they'll do is press the matter that you need to cheese it to get through, and be utterly useless otherwise. Case and Point? VoG after they fixed the glitching. Maybe you have a raid team and they are dedicated, but that makes you a minority if anything.

                • Bungie can ban you for much less then that. They probably won't ban anyone. The only band I've seen thrown out was the heavy ammo exploit in pvp. Bungie should fix this. But exploiters shouldn't get banned. After all without them we'd probably never see these things fixed.

                • Did everyone really take these steps back in the wrong direction again??? I thought we were over the "earning" gear thing.. It's RNG.. It's random... You earned nothing... And if people who do this upset you don't play with them.. Simple as that...

                • The problem is that it's in one of those shades of grey areas. World not black and white. The problem is this not a computer this console so fixing these exploits super quick like if it happend WoW it's different. And then also another tough part is a lot of us are from the halo series and anyone who's anyone should know we are the most dedicated players out there it's got to be really hard to keep up with us.

                  • Technically, they're not manipulating the game mechanics. They're doing one simple thing, which for some unknown reason causes the boss to glitch out, which shouldn't happen. It doesn't happen with other enemies, so why does it happen with Crota? They're not modding or interrupting anything. The Leader is merely leaving, which could initially happen for many reasons. Same for the stuff with Atheon. Nobody was ever banned doing that either. Not defending those who do it that way. It's pretty boring and easy. Their choice though

                  • Sure its a bug, Bugs get abused. But its not exactly system breaking. People are going to beat the raid one way or another. Fix it and move on. Give a couple people some high fives for finding a ridiculous networking problem, and look out for it in the future. If people didnt exploit the game, then testers simply wouldnt have jobs anymore.

                    • With all respect, if you're going to invoke a Nuclear Option like this, you'd also need to go back and ban every single Warlock and Titan player who every pushed the Templar and Atheon off with grenades. Or at least every player who got a Mythoclast using that method. Nothing good comes of this sort of thinking. Notify the developer, encourage them to fix it, and don't use the cheese yourself. Don't play with groups that do cheese, if you feel strongly enough about it. That's all you can do and the best road to take IMO.

                    • It's just pixels on a screen. Who cares what other people in the game have. You know a dozen or more 32 s exist. Level 32 already. Because folks deleted characters and made fresh ones to 20 to run raid more chances. So what. Just let people enjoy their stupid video game. Or yeah go ahead and swing the ban hammer and accidentally hit some 12 year old who's sister pulled the ethernet out of the wall at the moment Crota was down. He disconnects, Bungie accuses him of cheese ing and he's banned. Probably highly unlikely but then again we have Innocent people on death row and once again I answer it's Stupid pixels on a tv screen so relax and forget about it. Move on

                      • I agree. Ban them for the cheating asshats they are. I don't care why they're doing it or what they're getting; that's not my issue. My issue is: Who knows what kind of damage or unintended consequences they're wreaking on the game servers by doing this? Screwing with network traffic in a game where so many people appear to be experiencing network issues is a huge no-no, in my opinion.
