There could be trouble ahead for destiny

The negativity surrounding destiny seems to be growing by the day. Every event, every update and almost every effort that bungie make to keep destiny hanging in there seems to fail and upset the (vocal) community. This now includes me. I've enjoyed my 600 hours on this game but I'm completely out of grind now and can't imagine I'll keep coming back for even more punishment for very much longer... The problem is that I'm now thinking about what is the point in grinding my way to 32 if the gear from the next dlc goes onsale, day one, at a higher level than what I can 'earn' over the next 3 months. I could easily just not play until march and pick it up again then instead of wasting dozens of hours grinding gear that will be worthless (see vog gear). Then I start wondering, what if I stop playing now and wait for the new dlc, then what if they don't sell the higher level gear and I'm left behind. Either way I can grind now or grind in march. Nothing will be any different with the next dlc as there will be another dlc planned after it which will put us in this same situation again and then I'm sure again after that. I think my point is that what destiny has to offer is some of the best gunplay I have ever experienced but then it gives me nothing to do with it. I dont just play for the gear or light level but when everything i do in this game becomes irrelevant at the launch of every dlc then there is literally no reason to keep going. I gave destiny the benefit of the doubt through the early days pre dlc. I was hoping the the dark below would make use of the awesome foundation that destiny has but it simply confirms that there will never be any substance to this game and that it'll only ever be a never ending and pointless grind. With a very short cycle between dlc's I am not doing this every few months. The dlc restricts the game instead of expanding it. I have gone from having hope to being totally disinterested. People can only be let down so many times before they give up and I think that time is fast approaching. I'm expecting responses which will collect my tears (there are loads, help yourself) and other equally useful replies but this post is intended solely to show that even the people who have loved and defended this game can be pushed to the point of leaving. Tl;Dr boo hoo Edit: there seems to be an opinion emerging that I am trying to convince people not to play destiny which is absolutely not what I am getting at. I hope that everyone who is enjoying the game can carry on doing exactly that. I doubt anyone has ever read a thread like this and thought, duh this guy isn't going to play anymore so maybe I wont. Also, to be clear, this was not an announcement that I am quitting. I don't want a refund and still don't need anyone's shoulder to cry on. For everyone with their constructive feedback, whether it is of the same opinion as mine or not I would like to say thank you.

  • People will always complain. Why? Don't know. Because they can? Playing a game will never be productive, and no game asts forever. Play for as long as you want, then move on.

Eh in all honesty it's just the Bungie forums that are toxic, and I believe it's because every troll and crybaby thinks it's more likely that Bungie will read their bullshit if it's on their forums. The sub-reddit is full of helpful people who enjoy playing the game, not just bitching about. I mean all you have to do is look at how many people bitched about the 1.2 delay to know how full of shit a lot of this forum community is. Let's bitch about them FIXING something, because that's all we had to bitch about this week, that and thorn. Also to your point, I get where you're coming from, but I enjoy collecting the gear and -blam!-ing around with friends, it's what keeps me coming back, otherwise I'd be playing some single player game. I've been playing since day one and my advice would be to just put the game down for a while, I've taken two 3 week breaks from destiny and it was really helpful in getting me excited in the game again. Anyway, keep your eye on the updates even you aren't playing, they might drop something you're interested in doing down the road.

or you can just play it for fun? I swear some of you take this game WAY too seriously. bye. by the way there is a BIG difference from the people who troll on here and the people who actually play. most people I play with are so nice and love the game still. the forums are just a joke where I come to laugh at morons and crybabies.

[/quote] So whats the point of leveling to 32 if the next raid levels you to 34? Well whats hr point of playing Destiny if Destiny 2 comes out in a few years? This mentality is so stupid. Lets look at the facts people. If you did the Vault of Glass and got 32 raid gear, then why play the new raid? You know what the point is in this game? TO LEVEL UP, THEN LEVEL UP AGAIN. Play an RPG. You will see that its the same. You dont keep your gear and weapons forever, you FIND SOMETHING BETTER! I swear some of the worst fans in the world play this game. Wow increases the level cap with every expansion and it is easily one of the best selling games of all time. So seriously, you can cry all you want, but you arent going to change a thing. RPG==GRIND LIVE WITH IT

    • I got into the Heroes of the Storm Beta and decided not to even renew my gold account in April. I pretty much stopped playing after I got the T-Shirt for beating CE on hard. And hadn't played since CE first came out before hard. There just wasn't a point to playing anymore. I think I was at a little bit under 300 hours and there wasn't a point to playing anymore except the fantastic gun play. If this game didn't have that it would have been down and out a long time ago.

    • The negativity is mostly from here and a few media outlets (Kotaku and Polygon for starters). I've done a fair bit of LFGing earlier this week, and the folks I spoke to there were pretty positive. We talked about this kind of stuff as we shuffled folks. It's not perfect, but it's fun. So long as Destiny is fun to play, we'll happily grind away at it. Realistically, did anyone think they would be putting HUNDREDS of hours into Destiny? Would people really play more than 3 hours a day? Everyday? I don't think Bungie had any clue they were basically making a terribly addicting game that puts Candy Crush to shame. Sure they wanted you to want to play, but 900+ hours? They couldn't have expected that. I don't think we'll see any really monumental changes to Destiny until Destiny 2 next year. I feel like the first is more of a proof of concept, and almost like an intro to the entire conflict. There will continue to be lots of questions and things unexplained for a while. There are some things that I WISH THEY HAD EXPLAINED (they did have the time! Otherwise why be there? Sheesh!)! TL/DR - I have hope for future Destiny games, but the people I end up playing with on a regular basis still have fun and still play. I'm super excited for Destiny 2 because that's where I feel the real changes will occur!

    • Whatever happened to playing a game to just have -blam!-ing fun? The grind is the game. The excitement is the miniscule chance that you may actually turn off your console having obtained something fun to use tomorrow. Why so complicated?

      • Stopped reading after 600 hours. Don't like the game or the grind?? Just quit without the long drawn out boring as hell post about what YOU don't like about it. Why even spend the time on with such a detailed version of your experience. Bye Felicia!

        • I'll tell you right now, if destiny 2 is RNG based.. I don't care how nice or good the game is I won't be buying it. And as a once bungie cheerleader, from this point on I plan on making Very careful purchases before buying from them again. And to the people who are quick to run to their rescue. I just have one thing to say, get a life.. My gamer tag is fourteen years old and I was supporting them Before people even knew them as a company. Lazerpants, well said and closely resembling my thoughts as well..

        • The game is fine, to the comments that say Destiny will be dead before Destiny 2 I tell you there is a fan base big enough to continue with this game, there will always be people who dont like a game, but you dont stop making a game because some people stopped liking it, you make it for the people who do like it, OP I respect your opinion, you no longer like the game and thats fine, the game will be there when and if you decide to come back. To those talking about the negative reviews online, maybe you should focus on making your own opinion and dont let someone tell you what you should or shouldnt think of this game.

          • This was my solution to being burnt out on destiny; play or do something else without making a self-aggrandizing post about it, then come back when and if you feel like it and play it for what it is: a really fun shooter (not the life changing final solution to the question of the universe and everything. 23)

            • Not everybody hates destiny Like maybe 400 people are the ones that make every negative post on the forum. Many of them have multiple bungie accounts ( the ones that say " this account has not played destiny") Most people that play this game like it Sites like IGN and Kotaku are just pandering to this small minority because it will give them clicks.

                  • I really think some people are easily swayed by "reviews" they jump on the hate bandwagon really quickly without any legit reason of their own. They dislike the grind, why? Because a reviewer says so. They don't like the story, why? Because another reviewer dislikes it. Why can't people have their own thoughts and opinions instead of being a sheep and following the crowd?

                  • I play for fun. The grind is just something that happens to get done while I'm playing. Light levels and what-not are largely irrelevant to me. Still, I can't think of many games I could play for 600 hours without getting bored.

                  • Yup I quit, they did not showcase what their 500 employees did the first three months absolutely no actual good updates *no new planets or maps or anything* for new free content, whatever their plan is it doesn't impress me. The game itself is amazing but the people working on it and the people trying to make a good community are failing leaving their players thinking their getting the inside scoop when really it's all bs.
