Thorn too strong?

***making this clear since there are some people out in the cyber world that struggle with reading comprehension. This is not complaining, this is not begging for a nerf. I'm asking for other players opinions on the gun and giving my observations on the gun from my experiences dealing with it. If you don't know how to express your opinions intelligently then please don't reply. Thank you for taking the time to read this and reply. Want to hear other people's opinions on the Thorn. After the last update that made some Exotics stronger/weaker I feel as if the Thorn has gotten way too strong. During matches I will get hit once (pretty sure it is once but without Killcams I can't know 100%) and almost all of my health is gone plus I am getting burn damage. That basically makes it a two hit ko and almost impossible to win a gunfight with the Thorn. *Thanks to everyone who commented and contributed without insults or trying to say I'm crying. It is nice to see that you can still actually have some discussions on different topics without jumping to conclusions. It seems that the Thorn is not too strong and it's just the way that it appears to me online. Thanks again for the input.

  • I would personally cut the range of Thorn a bit, but damage vs reload/shooting speed feels about right for an exotic.

    • No more nerfing! It's two shots to the head (if you have good aim) and three to the body. Hawkmoon can also kill in 2 if you land headshots and get lucky. The clearly have more recoil than other guns (ARs, pulse, etc.) to balance the high impact.

      • I think the DoT tick rate and DoT damage need to be lowered a bit in PvP. Other than that no complaints from me.

          • I have Thorn, The Devil you know, the last word and Fatebringer. I can tell you that Thorn isnt OP at all. In pve I use fatebringer cause it's better, in close range crucible maps I use TLW cause it's better and at midrange I use the devil cause it's better than Thorn, minus the poison ticks...which are useless and only end up giving you shitty assists 90% of the time. Plus, by using the devil I get to use an exotic slot elsewhere. And lastly, seeing that I often rack up 30+ kills with the devil, Im pretty sure if I had Hawkmoon (aka the most OP weapon in the crucible) I'd rack up 50+ kills from time to time. Just sayin, Thorn is outperformed, by alot of guns.

          • I use the thorn and I think that in the right hands, it outperforms all other primary weapons except for the last word in close quarters. You can snipe fairly easy with this weapon and I find that in all my fights, I either win or it turns into a trade. Even if I only get one shot off, they are weakened and vulnerable to one of my teammates because they can't recover. If I shoot someone and they start running, I can see where the go because of the damage numbers from dot. If the camp around the corner, I can switch to a shotgun and blast his ass. If they have low armor, two head shots will always kill and I noticed there is a slight tracking with weapons which makes head shots easy.

          • Yet the most used pvp weapons is ARs and suros respectively. I'm sure a lot of this "OP" stuff is just lag. It's not uncommon to be in a game where everyone has a red connection which means the host had a bad connection. I share your frustrations though. Nothing more annoying then falling over dead and then seeing the guy that killed you skipping around.

              • Its OP as shit. The people who don't see it have one allowing them to defend against other people with one. Just saying.

              • I have Thorn and The Last Word. Personally I prefer Thorn for the slower RoF, it forces better accuracy IMO. Thorn can be more consistent in getting 2 shot headshot kills, but TLW and even Hawkmoon can get 2 shot kills as well, even a lot of the legendary HC's can do it. What makes me choose Thorn over TLW is the DoT, if I get the drop on someone I can get the kill unless the super. If they get the drop on me, chances are I'm going to die but I have a higher chance of trading due to that DoT, however weapons with a health regen perk (like suros) will deny that.

              • Thorn not op. At least not in PvE. And I don't try it in crucible. Other weapons are just as good but all depends on situation, and mission. Sometimes I use thorn, other times I use suros regime, or VOC. Depends on situation.

              • Even as a Thorn user I still get out performed by fusion rifles, shotguns, and other weapons. It's great, yeah, but still not OMFG OP.

                • I think thorn and most other handcannons besides the last word are only great in skilled hands. If you can aim for the head then you should be able to dominate. I use snipers and I 1-2 shot most people but only because I have good aim. Nobody complains about snipers since most people don't dominate with them. Thorn is only OP if you can use it well.

                  • I have it maxed and I've been using it for iron banner, and I do pretty well. It takes two head shots to kill then the poison will take care of the rest, but usually I'll take someone with a third shot anyways. I do in fact get a lot of post mordem medals tho. But that's the thing, with a suros or the last word I wouldnt of died. The gun falls off at close range, and at long range. The reticle sucks too. I think that just good people choose it because it rewards skilled players.

                  • Handcannons in general are extremely good for people who know how to aim Hawkmoon + Thorn are the guns which require the most "skill" to use, since it only takes into consideration how good your aim is. If your aim is chit, then those guns are not going to win you gunfights, if you're good and smart about it you can pick off pretty much anybody on the opposing team though, especially if you play a Sunsinger Thorn body shot + Scorch melee = Better than shotgun + Melee
