Guide for Crota Raid Boss Fight

First long post ever. Good Stuff Bad Stuff We had three level 31s. All six hugging the Crystal, any three to the left and three to the right. At this part, rockets work well if someone doesn’t run in front of you at this part (Try jump shooting down). Golden Gun with Combustion or DoT Nades are also very good (and you’ll spit out mad orbs). One will stay in this room to take care of the Tower Knights that spawn very quickly to the left and right of sCrota’s center stage. We had a level 31 Titan with Blessings of Light up here (Blessings help him stay alive, a Level 31 can two shot the Knights with Icebreaker). One death in this room will not spawn an OverSoul or slow the run down, only wipe at the second or third OverSoul if it unfortunately happens. A designated Chalice grabber will grab it, while the other four will run down the steps to the center bottom room. Grabbing the Chalice initiates an instant full health heal, at which point only hold it while in the bottom doorway, so everyone knows where it is at all times. SwordBearer will spawn immediately (always thru the door in front of the Chalice crate). Kill him quickly to get a good run rolling. Vex Mythoclast works wonders on the Thralls. Stagger rounds on any weapon will put in work on the SwordBearer, and prevent him from sprint smashing your –blam-. Only bosses can jump rocket the adds (helps prevent OverSouls). Our SwordHolder was a level 31 Titan, who popped his Weapons of Light right before he grabbed the Relic. (If he is carrying the Chalice, you better get it from him b/c he shouldn’t wait around before getting into position). His position was the Chalice Crate, which he waited at until sCrota’s knee’s were getting weak. Dip into his or others Weapons on Light, and immediately begin DPSing on sCrota’s shield. Tracking Rockets, large magazine LMGs, Golden Gun, and fusion rifles work well. Weapon swap when you run out and don’t reload til sCrota is on his knees. (Tip: While waiting on SwordBearers to spawn, ensure you pick up ammo in the center of the room and reload all 3 weapons to max. This prevents sCrota from recovering and killing the SwordHolder just when you think he’s on his knees.) A designated spokesman who announces “75%, 50%, 25%, go time” will prevent confusion in party chat and help to get the timing right. Once sCrota is on his knees, the SwordHolder will begin doing the red health damage. If it is not timed perfectly, try to tell the SwordHolder how many hits he might be able to get in. If the tower knights are alive they could kill the SwordHolder. Sometimes a knight sneaks up on the SwordHolder, while he’s owning sCrota (Tip: Kill Knight :-O) The SwordHolder alternated attacks, depending on the timing and if he had a super. If he had a super, then R2, R2, Super put in the most damage. Rarely can he get in 4 hits, but it is possible. SwordHolder will then evade sCrota back down to the Chalice Crate. Others will slowly begin DPSing sCrota again until he is no longer immune, at which point take his shield down and repeat SwordHolder damage. (Tip: If you know timing was off, don’t waste your time trying to get sCrota to his knees). Ogres will spawn every three ADDs spawns. Sometimes, both Ogres will be on the left. Sometimes, one on each side. Stagger rounds on an LMG is ideal to prevent the Ogres from attacking back. Any weapon with good crit damage is ideal from behind cover. Popping out intermittently to slap fusion rifle damage works if there nothing else in your hand (just doesn’t crit). Having Blessings and Weapons of Light shields available during this part is almost cheating. After killing ogres, the SwordBearer will take a while to spawn. At this time, you can keep jumping in the bottom doorway to be able to call out his spawn when his door opens behind the Chalice Crate (sometimes its just thralls, then him right after). If we could’ve got sCrota to his knees twice with one sword, it would’ve been a guaranteed kill at the fourth sword. If the SwordHolder was Supered every time he went up there (hint hint orb droppers), then we might’ve had him down with three or even two swords. (don’t remember how many it took us, but enrage was near) The End. _._.New Idea_-_- If someone can survive camping by the tower knight spawn long enough, a Gatekeeper will spawn. The SwordHolder will have to take care of him and defeat Crota for a new chest to spawn. One forum comment was that a Gatekeeper will spawn upon camp in tower, another was that people could see a chest in the distance after killing Crota, but could not reach it. I'm just doing the math. Can't wait to try on my Titan! Let me know if it works!
Additional Tips: -Regenerating health when you pick up orbs is ideal -Red Death will heal you upon every kill, and Suros will heal you unreliably -Mida Multi-tool equipped will speed up the SwordHolder’s run speed -Armor vice Agility is garbage if you still get one-hitted -Keep the Chalice near the bottom doorway at all times -Damage over time weapons will prevent health recovery (not sure if they will prevent sCrota’s shield from recovering) -Rockets without tracking are hard to use on sCrota -Never reload while DPSing sCrota, swap weapons instead -Blessing of Light doesn’t heal you, just gives short shield -Bubble buffs go out before the bubble is gone, so re-dip Conspiracy Theory: You have to jump inside the OverSoul to get the final chest. #letmeknowifyoutryitlol Tips for Raiding with Randoms: -Have patience -Have time (friends will understand if you only have 30 minutes, not strangers) -Mute your mic when you want to scream (you still can) -Light/Comical chit chat is ideal during downtime, not always so when it’s going down -Politely ask the –blam-hole to leave (If he doesn’t, do whatever’s clever) -Understand that I underperform when I need a cigarette (I’m not proud of it) -Understand that others need to eat every now and then. A lot of us don’t expect the raid to last over an hour and a half -Your first time raiding? (VOG, Crota, at that difficulty, with that character, whatever) try to only do it with friends and friends of friends) -Get accustomed to the maps and relics during your off-time, so you don’t waste too much of others’ time -Too many individual breaks the raid attempt. If someone else is taking a break, you should think about it too. -If I tell you why I died, it’s so you understand and don’t make the same mistake (I’m not making excuses) -Don’t tell someone how to use their character, if you don’t have that class. Ask for help from someone with your same class, to see what their using. -Chatting directly with others thru a PC on LFG is the quickest way to form team ULTIMATE JEDI MINDTRICK – When you feel the level of frustration in air going too far, start giving other’s compliments when you see good performance instead of criticism or additional ideas at this point. Eventually frustration levels might lower to the point where constructive criticism can again be used without someone taking offense. (We’re all human, we will get frustrated. Destiny is just a game, don’t let Bungie beat you ;} One last thing. I plan to start doing more guides like this (with light humor/semi-PG). If you enjoy that kind of thing, please follow. To limit friend requests, please only submit PS4 friend requests to GolliChris, if you have 2200+ Grimoire or have beat Crota also (no offense to others). I still need to complete other portions of the raid, LOL… And I have two other characters that need good raiding partners, too. Edits: I just did it second time. Used 2 on tower knights in top left stairway this time. All melee attacks work on Crota yellow health. Blade dancer super does most DPS, other melees aren't worth it. I recorded second completion, YouTube instructional videos pending...
