Is grinding for iron banner useless?
*not asking what's the point of iron banner, I'm asking about the gear.
IB gear only goes to 33 light. What's the point of grinding when you can buy the 33 light gear? Vendor Arms and boots and either an exotic helmet or chest, BOOM 31. [b][i]without commendations[/i][/b]
If you have a commendation you can just buy whatever piece of gear you need.

3 RepliesIf you read the weekly update, they say upgraded gear from IB, meaning it has a chance to be a 36 light max. Hoping it'll be a 36, it sucks they favor pve over pvp, we should be able to get "raid armor" in pvp as a second option and for those that dislike raiding.

Leveling up is really fast as you can do ib and crucible bounties simultaneously. Also the weapons are great. I still use my 300 lash and it stands up great next to my 331 weapons.

Edited by DigiOps: 1/9/2015 5:21:06 AMPrior to the DLC release, when the level cap was 30, one of the later instances of Iron Banner had gear with 30 light making it so you could get to the old light level cap with two pieces of Iron Banner armor (you could only equip two pieces). The armor and shaders are also pretty cool looking. They're probably my favorite shaders thus far.

If you want 331 versions of 300 IB weapons, you have to grind all over again whenever they show up in the loot table... I blew 100+ motes of light getting my Jolder's Hammer, Perun's Fire, and Timur's Lash from the 2nd Iron Banner to perfect perk configurations, only for them to be rendered obsolete since they're stuck at their 300 damage cap. The armor is also only useful if you have yet to receive any raid gear and need a stepping stone, unless the next IB will have gear on-par with Crota's End loot. Hence why I'm not too crazy about the IB prizes.

17 RepliesSo....I'm not really in to the PVP aspect of destiny, I'm not bad but I'm not the best. But I do like some Iron Banner gear. Is it really difficult to optain the weapons? Is it hard to get to Rank 5? And do they reward Iron Banner gear after a match like with regular crucible?

You can use iron banner to level up gear like crazy... Just get all the crucible bounties and iron banner bounties........ And you never know what weapon iron banner might be selling.

My guess is that with hard raid coming the new banner armor will scale upward.

Last time around it was totally worth it for me. Really wanted the auto rifle, just grinded out the bounties the last two days with the buffs and in the time it took to hit LVL 5, I got 4 legendary ships as well as Gheleon's Demise (scout) and Perun's Fire(fusion). As Swift pointed out, it sucks that the reforge option doesn't allow to upgrade the max damage, but as is, that's the fate of every legendary weapon in your arsenal. And if you're just interested in a piece of armor, you could easily breeze through to Lvl 3 or 4 by just doing the easier bounties on a daily basis and taking advantage of the buffs. Just keep in mind you don't get shards for breaking down IB gear, so it's only worth it if the stats/perks will benefit your loadout/playstyle. TLTR: It's not much of a grind just doing bounties with the buff on a daily basis, and the drops seem way better/more frequent. Just depends on whether you see something worth working towards.

If I wasn't suffering from grind burnout I would probably get the gear since it usually has good PvP stats.

For the weapons, duh. Reforging too. Only stuff you can do that with until you get something you really like.

It depends on the guns offered. Efrideet Spear is a great sniper rifle. Peruns Fire is amazeballs. Jolder's Hammer is the shit.

If it's not level 32 gear then yes it's useless.

1 ReplyEffrideet's Spear 331 dmg reforged for field scout (aka 6 in the mag)/precision kills cause explosion/and unloading a mag causes fast reload. I think it was completely worth it in terms of customized weapons.. I bought 3 spears with all separate damage, totally worth it.

Personally I use it for ranking up weapons. If you can get each bounty each day your exotics max out FAST
