Edited by FireflyPunk: 12/12/2014 8:32:21 PMOur character would have to say more than "How can I help?" for this to work. Ugh, they wasted Dinklage on technobabble shit exposition. Dialogue from our character to provide motivation beyond GRIND (Gears pun intended) would have been welcome. I feel like a zombie that needs to subsist off of a steady diet of blue engrams, and its getting old. I kind of want to start a Destiny fan-fiction site... Let it get really big... ...and when Bungie highlights my site as a means of throwing people off the scent of whatever they did to piss them off that week, and they ask me "So, why start a Destiny Story site?"... ...I can answer honestly and simply. " Somebody had to write a story for this thing."

A hamster could write a better story for destiny, this is no great accomplishment.

Halo 1&2 was amazing and made by bungie..... Where did they go wrong? To make a lifeless story in destiny. :(

That was really good. Destiny honestly holds a lot of potential, a lot of lore to dive into that just--gets brushed off to the side. I'm kinda disappointed about how they handled the Guardian--if you read the grimoire cards which feature other guardians they all sound very pensive. I mean, they are these figures revived from death to go and fight the darkness. Our Guardian in the story has little to none of that charm. The most emotion they show is in two cutscenes--the first one (when they are awakening, looking down at their hands as the Ghost tells them they've been dead for a long time) and when they ask the Speaker what they can do to help. For the rest of the game, we are flawless badasses. But should we be? We've been revived and basically told that we're fighting to save Earth. It isn't even clear if we remember our past. It looks like we don't, but that never comes out. I prefer to think they don't remember anything--and I think they might not, since they seem clueless about the Traveler (who in the story, has been around for awhile). So wouldn't they wonder, like this Guardian does, about what this moon-like thing is, hovering above a city? Why does everyone avoid giving us a straight answer? Wouldn't our Guardian become suspicious? Or are we just stupid? The factions were a great way to invite conversation into this, but unfortunately they just became vendors.

That was a good strip.

To think what could've been.

Bump. The game needs random little scenes like this. It needs more battles where your down on your last leg. Epic battles like the final boss battle in halo 4 where there was near little controller mechanics. (minus it's anticlimactic side) where you have to fight to win. Crawl to victory.

See, if they had of just invested in creating little moments like this. . . I find it hard to believe that for the amount of talent that Bungie has, considering their work on the Halo series, and how some of the best games of the past few years, (Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Last of Us.), have shown how much of an utter boost that well posed story and moments like that can be to a games popularity, I find it hard that they COULDN'T have crafted a relatively decent story with compelling characters and moments. These are the people who gave us Sargent A J Johnson, USNC. We all felt it a little when Miranda Keyes went down. And what about Guilty Spark eh? Hell, go further back, what about Durandal? Where did that writing talent go to? Or don't Bungie even have time to explain why they don't have time to explain?

If the Traveler = Bungie, then the Ghost's answer is spot-on. lol
-
Um wow that was a great strip that wouldve made a great cutscene

Edited by shadowgaze72: 12/13/2014 3:34:50 PMFor me, without a compelling story - it's just grinding. If you are into pvp then you are probably happy with what there is and if all Destiny will ever be is pvp then a story is not needed. Destiny is a fps with pvp maps and for me it's getting rather boring and fast. I didn't buy the dlc, glad I didn't either - saw it on YouTube and was very disappointed yet again. I was hoping for the best, even remotely interesting side missions would have been great. There's nothing left for me to grind for...

Bungie wrote a story for this game? Interesting.
-
Thanks for sharing. That was awesome. I'm just going to add that to the lore in my mind.
-
Saw that yesterday. It is fantastic and a little shameful that they packed more characterization in to 5 panels than Bonfire did in a few fill hours of content.
-
That was fantastic. That invoked more emotion(toward a story/character) than all of the Destiny campaign and dlc.

Edited by Winterbane88: 12/12/2014 8:33:28 PMPetition for penny arcade to write the story line for destiny 2? I guarantee you that bungie has writers who are capable of writing a compelling story. We all saw it in halo. Sadly I feel their creativeness is being held back by the people paying their living. Imagine how gripping Eris' story could have been if they had their freedom.

I WANTED TO READ MORE BUT THWRWS ONLY ONE PAGE NOOOOOOOOOOO

That's not necessarily difficult to do considering Destiny had no story.

Thanks for the link.
