Crotas End Raid Guide(With Alternate Strategies)

Added a link to a full raid. check the end for how to beat Crota. got 2 raid gear and a icebreaker and sword. UPDATED CROTA STRATEGY IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. Out of room in the post, check my comments for more strategy and tips. Part 1: The Weight Of Darkness (the basic idea here is to get from point A to point B and form a bridge. you will have weight of darkness which stops you from moving fast or jumping. it can be cleansed at any of the lights you pass on your way to the end.) ---a few tips--- look out for holes theres alot.....dont jump over rocks theres amlost always a hole on the other side.....if you for some reason cant see well pull out your ghost for a second and use the lines it shows on the area to help you. *after going down into the portal you land in a small area with a few torches. this is the start of The Weight Of Darkness. *before doing anything take a step out into the dark and look left. do you see a faint white light? go to it, its a chest hidden behind one of a few doors that can contain gear. the chest will be in the door that is lit up. *ok now that you got the chest you need to make your way through this entire section then build a bridge at the end. The way im seeing everyone do this section is to stick together and move as a tight knit group from light to light until you reach the end. there's a better way to do it. *you need to break into 2 groups. Group A starts moving from light to light as usual. Group B stays back about 2 lights and follows group A from there. This will split the thralls so no group will get overrun. anyone in group A who dies can be revived by group B following them. using this method is a little slower because group B will Always have a 10x weight of darkness but my team never dies on that section using this method. *now that you made your way through that area you should be seeing a plate to step on to activate a bridge. Since group A will be here first they need to wait for group B before activating the bridge. Group A needs to get up on the rocks on the right side near the plate. if you cant jump up there let yourself die in front of someone who is so they can revive you at which point you can jump again. Once Group B gets there they do the same. One person then needs to come off the rocks and activate the bridge. they can stand in the back section where the bridge is building and be fairly safe. * Once the bridge is activated some knights and Ogres will spawn. you should be able to take them down easily from the rocks with a lil help from your friend at the bridge. after that cross the bridge and on to the next section. ***** I've heard there are 2 chests near the bridge area. they should be up on rocks near doors but you can only get 1. the other chest will despawn after getting the first. maybe split back into groups and try to get them both. i cant verify this right now so be careful****** Part 2: The Bridge & The Sword. (the basic idea here is to get everyone across the bridge. Only the person with the sword can cross. someone needs to stand in each pillar on the sides to prevent a wipe and someone in the middle to keep the bridge open. Having a Titan with blinding grenades is important here.sorry i don't know what their called i don't play as a Titan.) *to start get 2 people on each plate/pillar, once you step on the bridge plate you start the encounter.Someone ALWAYS needs to keep the bridge open (be careful on the bridge, thrall will climb up the walls behind you in the start.) * A swordbearer will come from the big door at the top of the steps. once hes dead a titan needs to grab the sword and cross the bridge(its important that its a titan). the titan needs to blind the gatekeeper on the other side of the bridge then kill him with the sword.(they can only be hurt by the sword and it will disappear after a set amount of time.) The titan just needs to stay alive and build up his grenade again. Repeat that until all Titans with blinding grenades are over the bridge.(a gatekeeper will spawn for every swordbearer killed so if you kill a swordbearer and don't get across you will be at a sever disadvantage.) *Now that the Titans are over there they can blind the gatekeepers for the others coming across just make sure you communicate that your crossing the bridge so they know to blind him. *Once 3 people are on the other side they need to hold the plates on their side so the starting side can move around freely. *once 4 people are on the other side the 2 left at the start can wipe.knights and ogres will start to spawn after the wipe. killing all of them will give you your loot and the checkpoint to the next area. ****I've heard that if you go to the doors on either side of the main door on the ending side of the bridge your ghost will open the doors in those areas. this seems like a place a chest would appear for doing something. my guess is getting everyone across in 1 shot each and killing all the gatekeepers will spawn a chest but i cant verify any of this, if you can let me know.***** ****before dropping into the big hole there is a big door on the other side of the hole with a chest. the door can close if you aren't fast enough.(i didn't find this, credit goes to JD777prime)**** Part 3 : Wizards and Shriekers (the basic idea is to kill the 2 witchs inside the center upstairs area. after each dies a shrieker comes to life that has to be killed. they are in each side next to the center area with the witchs. once the shriekers are down you need to kill the queen wizard while she is doing lithergy.) *you start under the main room with the wizards. if you look up you can see them. To start everyone needs to go out and get to the top back section of the upstairs area that is covered in rubble. once everyone's there 1(high level) person runs in each side gets the wizards attention and runs back out. the wizard will follow you out and your team can kill it. each side can be done at the same time or one at a time depending how you ant to do it. *once the wizards are down a shrieker will come to life in the hallways on both sides near the wizard chamber(middle room you start under). *take out the shriekers and get ready to fight the queen Wizard. *once the fight with the queen wizard starts fall back and regroup for a second because theres gonna be alota knights in her area. *once the queen wizard starts her lithergy she will be still and takes alot of damage.this is when you strike. everyone goes in and hits her hard, everything you got and she will go down easy. *congratulations you just beat the raid!!! sike time to meet the son of oryx. Part 4: The son Of Oryx and his oversoul (the basic idea here is that you cant regenerate health. there is a light called the chalice of light that can be passed from person to person to refill health. there is also a swordbearer that needs to be killed. once the swordbearer is down he will drop his sword. you can damage crota with the sword when crotas shield is down. when his shield is down he will fall to one knee thats when you hit him but only with the sword, its the only thing that will hurt him. so guns for his shield sword for his health. if crota summons his oversoul shoot it fast and hard(giggity) or you all die.) *To start the Crota encounter everyone needs to stand near the green crystal from the wizard room.once everyone is near it the room your in will get sealed and your trapped for a few seconds while enemies gather at the doors. the walls will come down shortly and they will start to attack. I found a useful glitch in this area that will help you so check it out. ### useful glitch: at the point where everyone needs to stand near the crystal to start the fight have all but 1 person stand next to the crystal. the person not near it needs to walk through the activation area and if timed right he will be able to jump out the window before getting sealed in the room. Once hes outside he can either A: get the chalice and pass it back to the team through the same windows he jumped through or B: start killing the Swordbearer who spawns right under crota. i suggest killing the swordbearer because once you pick up the chalice anytime someone dies crota will summon his oversoul.### *once you clear the hallways make your way down to the entrance on the lower level(where you can look up and see the wizard room) *all but 1 or 2 people take down the swordbearer from the entrence while 1 or 2 people work on crotas shield. *one person goes and gets the sword while everyone else finishes off crotas shield. *once the shield is gone crota will fall to 1 knee and you can damage him with the sword(only the sword shooting him wont help) if you get the sword before his shield is down there is a spot to the left of crota if your looking at him with some rocks. they are safe and can be jumped on to get you right next to crota when his shield goes down. keep this up until hes dead. A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: 1. one or two people can die before you pick up the chalice without crota summoning his oversoul .this is only true for the first minuet or so though. once the chalice is picked up any death will result in crota summoning his oversoul. 2. dropping the chalice will result in ogres being spawned. They may also spawn once you get crotas health low enough. ogres need to be killed fast they will hurt you bad. 3. if crota become enraged he will continually summon his oversoul. im not sure if you can recover from this or not. 4. if crota does summon his oversoul EVERYONE needs to be shooting at the big sun looking thing behind crota to hopefully stop it from killing everyone. 5. if you have a level 31 person with you he his the sword carrier. they will do an extra 50% damage to crota. if you know anything i missed please let me know in the comments section. Edit 1: sorry for the spacing. out of room

  • Ok so there is a way to glitch Crota into an easy win... Sort of. I call it a glitch because I consider it cheating. You can call it what you want and I'm sure a lot of you will choose to disagree but this isn't outsmarting the developers or using strategy it's just cheating. I won't explain how to do it or tell you where to find it but I imagine most of you won't have much trouble finding it. Now what I meant by an easy win... Sort of is the internet makes it look easy but it's not. I was with a group and someone wanted to try it out of curiosity. I figured it would be a good opportunity to see how it works and let you guys know what I think of it. So here's what I learned. that video you watched to learn how to do it prolly took a lil while. 1. It's time consuming if you can't do it right 2. Weird stuff can happen like enrage very fast, ogres spawning non stop, no swordbearer, full team disconnects and prolly more I forgot about. 3. with my normal raid group I can do the full crota raid in an hour fairly easy. Trying this took more work and time then I would normally spend on a whole raid. Bottom line: it's cheating, it's time consuming and it's not worth it. Save yourself the frustration and just learn the raid real good it's not that hard...until hard mode & I really hope they have this and the bridge cheese fixed by then.

    • UPDATED CROTA STRATEGY: *once you start the fight and get sealed in the room get everyone to one side. when the walls come down everyone throw a grenade and jump out of the room. someone needs to grab the chalice while everyone else is going to the bottom hallway. *as soon as everyone is there you all need to kill the swordbearer as fast as possible. (if you did everything fast enough you should have time to get 2 sets of hits on crota) *while your sword carrier is going to the spot on the right hand side snipers need to be shooting the knights on the left and right areas from behind the pillars in the open area outside the hallway door.(everyone is safe in that open section all the time as long as crota is in the middle) *after you get your 2 hits everyone go inside the hallway, crota is going to move. just wait. have someone watch him from the door so you know when hes about to move again. if the swordbearer is there just keep his health low but dont kill him until crota goes back to middle. *repeat the first steps of killing the gatekeeper and knights and getting 2 sets of hits on crota then everyone get to the back of the hallway...all the way back behind the water. the ogres that are coming wont shoot you there. *take them out then the swordbearer again and just keep repeating until hes dead. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: ** if crota isnt at 50% health by the 1st ogre phase just wipe. ** its all about timing, have someone calling out shield percentages, 50%, 20%, 10 %, down(sword carrier should make his move at 20%) ** when crota is yellowish after his first shield you cant hurt him just give him 3 seconds. ** speed and timing are the most important things here. only 1 person use a Ghorn or else the timing will get messed up. do the same damage the same way every phase. if someone shoots a random ghorn and no one expects it the shield will go down to fast and your sword carrier will get there late. ** once you get your damage and timing good you shouldn't have much of a problem.

    • The bridge cheese is confirmed. You can wipe and respawn at the 0 on the countdown then just kill the enemies on the other side of the bridge from the pedestals on the left side. This means if you got a few friends you can run each other's ALTs through the first part then everyone switch to your ALTs of any level to get the drops for the bridge. The wizard cheese is also confirmed where you throw grenades at the roof of the crystal room to get the Wizards to come out.

    • Just heard there's a way to cheese the bridge area in crota. You let everyone die on the starting side and when the timer gets to 0 have a warlock revive. Everything on the other side spawns, you kill them and the bridge forms. Haven't had a chance to test it. Let me know if you have.

might be worth mentioning the different rounds for the sword bearer(fight against Crota): 1st sword bearer: no ogres 2nd sword bearer: no ogres 3rd sword bearer: ogres 4th sword bearer: no ogres 5th sword bearer : ogres He tends to enrage after the fifth so try to defeat hin before ! Hope this helps :) Source : completed the raid tonight, many tries involved.

    • I might have just found something huge!!! I found a gatekeeper on the roof of the crystal room During the crota fight!!! That's there for a reason. To stop his enrage? To stop him from spawning the ogre? I need testers. Let me know what you find. Video at the link.

    • so a friend sent me a link to an alternate strategy for crota. i lost the link but got a screenshot of the strategy. id like to give credit to whoever posted it in the neogaf forums but i dont got a name so credit for this goes to someone on neogaf. its the same basic idea as my strategy just with a twist. you still go down to the middle starting section on the ground floor. you need a level 31 hunter with stealth. everyone goes to the bottom middle start point and kills the sword bearer. the hunter gets the sword and stands on the box in front of crota until everyone else takes his shield down. the hunter needs the bladedancer high jump to jump up to crota to hurt him. use R1 R1 R2 R2 if you get there right on time. don't get greedy.go back to the box in front of crota and duck to go invisible. now you wont need to worry about timing because he wont see you. by the time crotas getting back up 2 people from the bottom need to take out knights on the side areas from the pillars around the area. while everyone else blasts crota with ghorns and icebreakers to get his shield down again. hit him again(with super if you got it.) and everyone back to the bottom middle.repeat until either hes dead or you are.

      • So I tested the section where you open doors after the bridge and didn't find anything. My group each killed a gatekeeper and all made it over without any extra gatekeepers. Checked the doors on the starting side of the bridge too and nothing. Still think something will show up in 1 just don't know what you need to do to activate it.

        • Good guide but on the Deathsinger just have two warlocks throw a grenade at the ceiling where you can see the two wizards. It's had to be right below them. If they start seeing damage markers that means the wizard will leave the room without needing to be lured

            • Someone else mentioned this in another post. Someone said the sword lasts for 45 seconds, so could you nuke crota's shield while he is standing up to get more hits by the sword? Could help increase dps to beat engage.

                      • Ok so I'm out of room in the guide but I just found a spot you might be able to use to kinda cheese crota. Where he spawns there are mountains all around him. In the left and right corners there are notchs you can get into where you can't be hit. You can jump up and shoot crota from these spots or if he moves you can just shoot him from there depending on the side your on. You can also hit the oversoul from there easily. I've tested it a little bit and it seems like a very possible way to make things easier. Just look for the mountains at the corners and jump over. You can actually move around behind the entire thing and jump on the rock to the left in back of the level (left if your facing crota) but not the one on the right. Any questions let me know.
