To Bungie and Deej: We all die, but we all matter.

I just wanted to say that you may have seen me around the forums offering a glib remark here and there and even being completely unfair to my fellow players and to the professionals who brought me this game. I've been passionate with everything in my life and I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve. What I'm here to say is that I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I haven't given you (Bungie/Deej) a fair shake. I'm a 35 year old professional who works in the IT field. I'm on-call 24/7 for issues that affect my clients and my patience over time has grown thin where my job does not require it. I am held to a very high standard every day where I must deliver on what is promised to our clients, or I face a very steep hill of criticism. This wears on me from day to day and I feel like anyone who can't "get it", isn't worth my time to disabuse. I also hold a degree in filmmaking and I often become jaded with what is presented to me directly. I've learned to question everything I see and I often feel myself reverting to my default prejudices when it comes to what I feel MUST be presented to the viewer. I'm a critic by nature and I tend to see the flaws before recognizing the strengths. All of this being said, I have flat-out refused to play the DLC even though I have paid in-full for it (Collector's Edition and Season Pass) and decided to criticize it at every turn because I feel like my time has been wasted (Commendations and Exotic Resets). I know that with Destiny you have been shooting for an "experiential" narrative. While this is a risky move by even the most well-known filmmakers, it has often made me uneasy with this game. Players complain, with much justification, that this narrative could implode at any minute and, indeed, already has. I tend to agree with many that there is no definitive narrative. You may be wondering why I posted the link in this post. To me, that means something. It means that Bungie has a plan. I just wish you would open your fat-traps more. It's not enough that you tell media outlets, but that you should be telling your player-base directly what you are doing. Let the media outlets come to bungie.net for news, not the news outlets filter into bungie.net. Bungie, you scare me. I have invested my time and I am emotionally invested in this game. In any successful relationship, trust is earned by open communication about the past, present, and future. Bungie, you make rash decisions, or at least don't let us know what you are thinking beforehand. We, as your audience, can do nothing but react. Instead of being proactive, you and we are reactive. You don't hold an open-forum for your ideas, you just change something and let the world come down on you. Bungie, are you exhausted by this? I am. The link included in this post gives me a modicum of bitter hope that what we do in this game might actually matter. I can imagine every last player being called upon to defend The Last City, and we all die. We all die knowing that we made a difference, which is what I would want. I don't dare speak for my peers as they all have an opinion so diverse as to make your head spin. But: I think there is one thing we agree upon: if given the choice between going out in silence or with a bang, we would all choose going out with a bang. Bungie: you want to make us feel like we matter? Make us go out with a bang. Make all the grinding we do, and every reputation point we earn and have earned, matter. I, personally, want to die as a Defender Titan, holding The Wall against a merciless onslaught of the Darkness against all odds. This is my battle cry. I will not be snuffed. I will not be silenced. I will make a mark. I will be remembered. Bungie/Deej: Do we matter to Destiny?

  • Bump. This probably the best and most meaningful post I have read in a long time. I agree a hundred percent, adding more meaning to the game would be awesome. Immersing the the player in what seems to be a life or death situation is what really grips you. Great post man huge props.

  • The games Destiny and Warframe share similar conceits, but vastly different approaches to community interaction. The Warframe developers: Digitel Extremes, have WEEKLY LIVE shows with their players where questions get asked and answered, and upcoming events/Free DLC's get previewed. The Warframe Developers are Center Stage EVERY other week with LIVE shows where the DIRECTLY ANSWER Warframe players questions and concerns. Bungie's PR strategy with their VERY FRUSTRATED and DIMINISHING fans seems to be : Shut Up, Go -blam!- Yourselves. We will tell you whats best for you...we are too busy at the moment buying Diamond Dildos to Shove up our ASSES, out of the Money you Wasted on this half baked Turd. Prediction: Warframe will be going Strong in 10 years, while Bungie will go the way of THQ.

  • Maybe you should write lore for them. I've learnt more from those paragraphs, than the game itself.

  • I want to die as a void walker warlock. Yea self res is nice. But it doesn't beat flying in the air catapulting 3 nova bombs raining from the sky to vaporize everything below me in a hail of purple void energy. We may die. But we will never surrender!

    • Gotta get this post seen, there are a lot of people who are immersed into this universe. We all fight, die, loot, and traverse this universe, hopefully Bungie rewards the dedication.

        • We intro'd this game solo. I'd love to have an epic single player "hold the line" ending. The below link would be a fantastic "Fall of the Tower" type ending to Destiny 1, intro to 2. This (ME3 intro for those that have never played the game): http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SH66Ft4Tcgw You could easily replace Admiral Anderson with one of the applicable vanguards to your character and see this play out very well. Replace "reapers" with "the darkness" or the Vex and you get the idea. The thrall like things, Hive. All of this translates. Defender Titan. In my bubble. Dancing. Like Starlord. All the way. Something!!!!

        • Well said! I am hopeful that Bungie will turn this around; however, they need to go to war with Activision and gain some much needed autonomy.

            • Bungie patches game exploits but exploits the players hopes. Such irony. Maybe it will be different in a sequel.

            • Agreed! good post I agree 100% about the armor. i like my dead orbit outfit, now its junk. i have to grind to get the same armor i already own? this is bullshit! Bungie could of at least made the armor (faction) look different. well im done with this game, not gonna start all over I already put 120hrs into this game. done with the headaches
