Where is the Customization?:The problem and how to fix it

For a game that wants you to become legend,it really fails at making you look like a legend. Ill start off with the character creator:its disappointing. I was surprised that it had such few options for your character. You get like 13 faces to choose from which is a really small choice pool. I really don't understand why they thought this was better than a traditional character creator. I can't feel invested in the creator or attached to my character because no matter what i do,they are still gonna look like 1/3 of the players at the tower. Hell,we can't even name our characters! How can you overlook such an important feature? How are we suppose to become legend if nobody knows our name?? Now for armor and gear. At first i enjoyed looking for different ways to make my guardian look unique. Even though most of the armor models were reused alot, i enjoyed it nonetheless. That is until i hit level 20,because after 20,how you want your character to look is completely out of your control. Why? Because of the light system. In order to progress past 20,you must equip armor with high light stats. At first it doesn't seem that bad until you look at your armor choices. Vanguard and Crucible armor look exactly the same. The only way you can tell them apart is the blue stripe on the crucible armor. Bungie didn't even take the time to add new armor models!! Faction armor looks exactly the same across all 3 of them. Its like these guys buy armor from each other and sell it as their own. If they have a shader on good luck trying to telling them apart. Shaders are our only control over how we want our character to look and all it does is change the armor color. And it doesn't end there. Once you spend weeks getting enough marks to buy full faction armor and another few weeks maxing it out,you still can't hit that elusive level 30. But once you find out that you need full raid gear to be level 30,you realize all your work for the past week was in vain. You cannot represent your faction and be level 30. Now you must grind again for armor to be level 30. This game leaves you with two choices: Look unique and stay at level 20 or Be level 30 and look like everyone else. Weapons aren't very different either. There are only like 2-3 different models for each weapon class. Legendary weapons aren't even "legendary", there is nothing unique about them. After grinding for enough marks to buy a legendary weapon you're surprised to find that it uses the exact model as your already equipped rare. The upgrades aren't even unique to the gun, there are just more of them. The only unique models are the exotics and even then some of them are just reskins of popular rares. Plus the exotic limit defeats the purpose of wanting to get more exotics once you reach the limit. Light overall is just a restrictive system that defeats the purpose of customization and weapon models leave alot to be desired. I honestly believe that the choice of customization will return if light is removed altogether and replaced with a traditional level system . This isn't the first time a restrictive system like this was in the game. The devs of LOTR online tried to implement a similar system called radiance. You may be thinking "well if they had a system like light then it must've been a successful system right?" Well you would be wrong. http://i.massively.joystiq.com/2011/02/15/we-were-wrong-lotro-dev-explains-radiances-failure/ Radiance, like light was also a restrictive system that removed any choice over how you're character looked. In the end it was removed and players were given back the choice of looking the way they wanted to. If you don't want to remove light for some unknown reason Bungie, at least give us some form of transmod system. Imagine that dismantling gear has the ability to give you a random perk that piece of gear had. You also get schematics of the armor model. You can get, uncommon, rare and legendary schematics to make your gear that level. During strikes and patrol you can pick up bits and ends like cabal plate armor or fallen helmets to stylize your armor. You can even get pieces of strike boss armor. You can go to the outfitter for a fee to create your own armor. You can choose either to have more defense than perks, which will cost more materials. Or more perks, sacrificing defense in return which will require more shards. The bits and ends you can use to visually improve your armor. Imagine fallen cowering in fear as they see the helmet of their archon priest on your shoulder and a house banner defiled by your fireteam emblem as a cloak. A helmet forged out of a vex head that gives you the special ability of seeing farther when aiming. The possibilities are endless. We can name our armor as well, the community can create endless armor options like:
The iron fists of Valus
Or
Randall the Vandal's good ol' handles
Weapons can have a simular system as well. For a fee you can make your own weapon from the schematics you procured. It will be the same process: have more perks but sacrifice damage or have more damage but sacrifice perks. You can also adjust the stats on your weapon to your preference with some balancing to make sure it isnt overpowered. For example,if a player decided to max out the impact on a weapon, the stability, fire rate, and reload speed will suffer greatly. If they try to max out fire rate, then impact, stability, and range will be lowered greatly, etc. This will encourage players to tweak a gun to their playstyle and make sure the game isn't filled with op weapons. All in all this game needs more options for customization. Im getting tired of looking like everyone else and having weapons like everyone else. If these options are added to the game then we could finally feel like legends instead of some generic army. Please listen Bungie. This game can get better. Now for feedback. Opinions?

 • I just want to be able to buy legendary shaders from Dead Orbit. Making my guardian black is more difficult than the VoG. "This is our most challenging experience yet." No it's not. Your shitty package system not giving me Revenant is.
