So now the new system is in place for obtaining the exotic shard there are only 2 ways of getting them - buying from Xur for 7 strange coins or breaking down unwanted exotics. Strange coins are hard to come by if you largely play solo. This will be even more true when the level cap for the weekly strike increases to 30, and I expect a large population of destiny players like me, have full time jobs and simply don't have the time to run 3 high level characters to be able to get 27 strange coins a week. Weapons and armour cost up to 23 strange coins a piece, so you're limited in what you can get if you're also spending 7-14 coins on 1-2 exotic shards. One thing that you come by naturally over time and don't use much (if at all) however is motes of light, and purchasing an exotic engram with a reasonable number of these (23 I think they used to cost) would be a great way to make the final exotic upgrade slot just as accessible to more casual players as strange coins are to more hardcore players. Because as of today, MOTES OF LIGHT HAVE NO USE AT ALL. And don't talk to me about buying stuff from the speaker - they look nice but ultimately serve no purpose other than a cosmetic one.
