The adds ownership to the title. Like The Bible. It's the book there is no other book when you say the bible. The last word is just that. It owns it

Some do, The Last Word for example. I generally skip it though and just use the name of the exotic.

In lore these weapons are supposed to be one of a kind. If Destiny were to follow by lore within gameplay exclusively. You would not see more than one of each of these weapons. Just my two cents, take it as you will...
