Bungie gives and takes

Before today's patch you could exchange surplus materials for reputation and marks for either vanguard or crucible. Today's patch now allows us to exchange marks for materials. So, why does it have to be one or the other? Are you worried we would try to work out some method of maximizing rep gain? The exchange rate was 50 materials for 5 marks and 25 rep. The new rate is 10 marks for 20 materials. So you would have to buy 3 stacks of materials for one turn in, which will costs 30 marks. That would be exchanging 30 marks for 10 materials, 25 rep and 5 marks back. Going the other way would be 100 materials for 50 reputation and a refund of 40 materials. Maybe I am missing something but neither seems game breaking. At most, unless my math is wrong, I can see someone exchanging 200 marks(the current cap) for 225 reputation. (200 marks is 20 purchases, so 20x20=400, 400/50=8 turn ins which with refund marks gives enough for another exchange) So, why does it need to be one or the other?

  • I saved 100s of different destination materials to use for upgrading across my 3 characters (still upgrading), and occasionally turn some in for crucible rep. I still need some materials for upgrading but would like to continue turning them in, otherwise they are completely worthless after upgrading. I thought the whole point was to allow players to farm the destination materials then turn them in for rep. Eliminating this feature completely negates the need to gather destination materials at a certain point, and removes a useful option for gaining rep and a few marks. Purchasing destination materials can be convenient, in a pinch, but should not replace the existing trade-in/rep option. Please re-instate the trade-in for rep option! What's the deal bungle?!
